Tatau Dance Group were blessed with the opportunity to represent their island nation of Samoa at the International Asia-World Expo held in Hong Kong from the 11th to 14th June 2015.
This was our performance at a private dinner function with investors from Mainland China, Japan, Dubai, Egypt and of course Hong Kong. Our mission was not only to promote our country as an ideal tourist destination, our Samoan culture through song and dance, but also make ties with these countries to open doors for our little island, our people back home, Tatau Dance Group and also other dance groups.
A big thank you to Hon. La'auli Schmidt and the team from Unicorn Sino Travel Ltd for making this trip possible, especially Eric and Vincci for taking extra care of us. Also had the privilege of working alongside our reigning Miss Samoa NZ, Miss Samoa and Miss Pacific Islands - Latafale Auva'a. Thank you also to aunties Aoto'a Patea and Tulei Velio for their amazing work on the girls' puletasi's, as well as T-Shirt Time sponsoring us with a set of Tatau t-shirts for the tour.
A special mention to our parents, family and friends as well as the 8 Tatau brothers who were holding it down in NZ while we were away. Most importantly, this trip would have not have been a success if it were not for the continuous love and guidance of our Heavenly Father; for this is not for us but all for His glory and praise. Tatau is a town, and the capital of the Tatau District (4,945.8 square kilometers) in Bintulu Division, Sarawak, east Malaysia. The district population (year 2000 census) was 25,300. After several attempts to become pregnant, they consult the gynecologist Dr. Álvaro Barone ('Adriano Reys' (qv)), who tells Ana she can't have children. He suggests the couple contract a surrogate mother. So they do, for USD 20,000. However, during her pregnancy, the surrogate mother, Clara Ribeiro ('Cláudia Abreu' (qv)) gets affectionate feelings for the child in her, and even more so when she learns that she can't have more children after this difficult pregnancy. Clara refuses to surrender the child, and elopes with him. A court battle ensues, and Clara argues she is the genetic mother of the new born. Ana fights for the child, arguing that the ovum was hers, and the spermatozoa was her husband's. The novel was originally broadcast during nine months, and all Brazilians were discussing Ana and Clara's rights, and the problems arising from the science's new possibilities.

Tatau Dance Group were blessed with the opportunity to represent their island nation of Samoa at the International Asia-World Expo held in Hong Kong from the 11th to 14th June 2015.
This was our performance at a private dinner function with investors from Mainland China, Japan, Dubai, Egypt and of course Hong Kong. Our mission was not only to promote our country as an ideal tourist destination, our Samoan culture through song and dance, but also make ties with these countries to open doors for our little island, our people back home, Tatau Dance Group and also other dance groups.
A big thank you to Hon. La'auli Schmidt and the team from Unicorn Sino Travel Ltd for making this trip possible, especially Eric and Vincci for taking extra care of us. Also had the privilege of working alongside our reigning Miss Samoa NZ, Miss Samoa and Miss Pacific Islands - Latafale Auva'a. Thank you also to aunties Aoto'a Patea and Tulei Velio for their amazing work on the girls' puletasi's, as well as T-Shirt Time sponsoring us with a set of Tatau t-shirts for the tour.
A special mention to our parents, family and friends as well as the 8 Tatau brothers who were holding it down in NZ while we were away. Most importantly, this trip would have not have been a success if it were not for the continuous love and guidance of our Heavenly Father; for this is not for us but all for His glory and praise. I got my first tattoo in Samoa, during my service as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Petelo Sulu'ape was the artist who tattooed me. Two months later I added on to the tattoo, using a gun. -

The Tattoo is a documentary film on the Samoan Tribal Tattoo featuring the "Tatau" and the "Malu". The film is focused on the importance of the tattoo to the Samoan culture, the meaning of each design, its birth and its journey through history. Many Polynesian designs are becoming more popular in the tattoo industry and their meanings are about to disappear in the midst of the modern society. This film will cover interviews from different Traditional Tattoo Artists "Tufuga" from Utah, Hawaii and Samoa. The Tattoo is a documentary film on the Samoan Tribal Tattoo featuring the "Tatau" and the "Malu". The film is focused on the importance of the tattoo to the Samoan culture, the meaning of each design, its birth and its journey through history. Many Polynesian designs are becoming more popular in the tattoo industry and their meanings are about to disappear in the midst of the modern society. This film will cover interviews from different Traditional Tattoo Artists "Tufuga" from Utah, Hawaii and Samoa. Some features of this film will be performed by various characters portraying Kings, Goddesses and Warriors of Polynesian history, bringing realism to the viewers.
The Samoan tattoo is a combination of geometric patterns based on ancient designs and often represents a rank or status. To this day, a man's tattoo also called "Tatau" extensively from mid-back, down the sides and flanks, to the knees. A woman's tattoo, also called "Malu", is not quite as extensive or heavy. Samoan society has long been defined by rank and title. The tattooing ceremonies for young chiefs, typically conducted at the onset of puberty, were elaborate affairs and were a key part of their ascendance to a leadership role. The permanent marks left by the tattoo artists would forever celebrate their endurance and dedication to cultural traditions. The pain was extreme and the risk of death by infection was a great concern. But to shy away from tattooing was to risk being labeled a "pala'ai" or coward and reviled by the clan. Those who could not endure the pain and abandoned their tattooing were left incomplete, also called "pe'a mutu" wearing their mark of shame throughout their life.
There is history and deep meanings behind the symbol and designs of "Tatau" and "Malu" which represents community, power, status, respect, honor, and is a mark of pride that are only to be worn by Samoans. I started doing the work to perpetuate the culture, and not necessarily to be a tattooist. It's played a vital role within our society because it indicates rank for certain individuals. It indicates the willingness to sacrifice ones self to a process. And that's the most important thing is to adhere to the cultural norms and processes that was laid back thousands of years ago. It is not the people who are in the lower echelons of society that gets work done. Quite to the contrary it's the people that are in the higher rank that has the most work done. This isn't about you. It's about your ancestors, it's about your children, it's about everybody that comes in that line. And you are just one small part of that. To actually have someone lying in front of you and me doing the work recreates a scene that was done for thousands of years. And for me that responsibility is both a blessing and a burden. There is very little in today's society that you can honestly say this is exactly how it was two, three, four, five hundred, a thousand years ago. With this, you can say that.

Hunters from Outwest Farms located in Okeechobee, Florida have posted an image showing a massive, near 15-foot, 780 pound alligator they found and killed. According to CNN, the huge reptile was discovered on Saturday on one of the ponds located on a private ranch owned by Outwest Farms owner Lee Lightsey ... They were surprised when they came across this huge alligator instead ... I hate seeing a beautiful dinosaur like that killed.???? #RIP....
