DAY 58: actor Peter McRobbie
Where to begin with Peter McRobbie... going head to head with DANIEL DAY LEWIS in LINCOLN seems a no brainer... though also worthy of attention is his role as JAKE GYLLENHAAL's father in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN... then of course, there is the whole being Woody Allen's muse in at least eight of his movies, including ZELIG, BULLETS OVER BROADWAY and MIGHTY APHRODITE... in addition, he seems to elicit some serious law and order type character attributes as he has played a judge on DAMAGES, CONVICTION, AS THE WORLD TURNS and LAW & ORDER, LAW & ORDER: SVU, and LAW & ORDER: Trial By Jury... just to name a few. Though, as awesome as his film and TV work are, his stage work is beyond the pale, most recently lending his bona fide talents to our staged reading of JOE PINTAURO's new piece, LOVE/KILL... proving this Scottish born dynamo must hail from a clan of artistic souls whose prowess grows stronger with each character. Peter McRobbie (born January 31, 1943) is a Scottish-born, American-based character actor.
McRobbie has more than 60 movies and television series to his credit. The movies include Spider-Man 2, World Trade Center, Sleepers, and Bullets over Broadway. He is also recurring on the TV series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the original Law & Order series. It was on these two shows that McRobbie has played perhaps his most famous role to date, Judge Walter Bradley. McRobbie also garnered wide attention for his portrayal of John C. Twist in the motion picture Brokeback Mountain (2005).
McRobbie was born in Hawick, Borders, Scotland, the son of Mary Fleming (née Heigh), a writer, and William McRobbie, a storekeeper. McRobbie, who immigrated to the United States with his family as a child, grew up in Milford, Connecticut and graduated from Yale University with a degree in theater. He also briefly served in the United States Army. McRobbie is married to Charlotte and the father of two sons, Oliver and Andrew.

Thomas Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks (born July 9, 1956) is an American actor, producer, writer, and director. Hanks is known for his roles in Philadelphia and as the title character in Forrest Gump, roles which won him two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor. Hanks is also known for his Oscar nominated roles in Big, Saving Private Ryan and Cast Away.
Hanks' other acting roles include Apollo 13 as Jim Lovell, The Green Mile as Paul Edgecomb, Toy Story as Woody and Charlie Wilson's War as Charlie Wilson.
Hanks was born in Concord, California. His father, Amos Mefford Hanks (born in Glenn County, California, on March 9, 1924 – died in Alameda, California, on January 31, 1992), was an itinerant cook. His mother, Janet Marylyn (née Frager; born in Alameda County, California, on January 18, 1932), was a hospital worker. Hanks' mother is of Portuguese ancestry, while two of his paternal great-grandparents immigrated from Britain. Hanks's parents divorced in 1960. The family's three oldest children, Sandra (now Sandra Hanks Benoiton, a writer)[citation needed], Larry (now Lawrence M. Hanks, PhD, an entomology professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Tom, went with their father, while the youngest, Jim, now an actor and film maker, remained with his mother in Red Bluff, California.[citation needed]

Mark Rylance (born 18 January 1960) is an English actor, theatre director and playwright.
As an actor, Rylance found success on stage and screen. For his work in theatre he has won Olivier and Tony Awards among others, and a BAFTA TV Award. His film roles include Ferdinand in Prospero's Books (based on Shakespeare's The Tempest), Jay in Intimacy (after a novel by Hanif Kureishi) and Jakob von Gunten in Institute Benjamenta (after a novel by Robert Walser).
He was the first Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe in London, from 1995 to 2005.
Rylance was born David Mark Rylance Waters in Ashford, Kent, the son of David and Anne (née Skinner) Waters, both English teachers (as an adult, he took the stage name of Mark Rylance because the name Mark Waters was already taken by someone else registered with Equity). In 1962, when he was two, his parents moved to Connecticut in the United States and in 1969, to Wisconsin, where his father taught English at a prestigious preparatory school, the University School of Milwaukee. Rylance later attended the school, where he began acting. His first notable role was Hamlet in a 1976 production (with his own father as the First Gravedigger), and the next year he played Romeo in the school's production of Romeo and Juliet. In addition to acting, Rylance designed lighting and helped compose music for the school's productions. He often soloed in the school choir.

The Mahabharata is a 1989 film version of the Indian epic based on the history of India, the story involves epic incidents between two warring families, the Pandavas (representing the good side) and the Kauravas (representing the bad side). Both sides, being the offspring of kings and gods, fight for dominion. They have both been advised by the god Krishna to live in harmony and abstain from the bloody lust for power. Yet their fights come to threaten the very order of the Universe. The plot is framed as a narrative between the Brahmin sage Vyasa and the Hindu deity Ganesha, and directed towards an unnamed Indian boy who comes to him inquiring about the story of the human race.

Mahabharata directed by Peter Brook. Brook's original 1985 stage play was 9 hours long, and toured around the world for four years. In 1989, it was reduced to under 6 hours for television (TV mini series). The screenplay was the result of eight years' work by Peter Brook, Jean-Claude Carrière and Marie-Hélène Estienne. For the casting an international selection of actors was intentionally chosen, to show that the nature of the Indian epic is the story of all humanity.
In 1990, the film won the award for Performing Arts of the International Emmy Awards and the Audience Award for Best Feature at the São Paulo International Film Festival.

The Mahabharata is a 1989 film version of the Indian epic based on the history of India, the story involves epic incidents between two warring families, the Pandavas (representing the good side) and the Kauravas (representing the bad side). Both sides, being the offspring of kings and gods, fight for dominion. They have both been advised by the god Krishna to live in harmony and abstain from the bloody lust for power. Yet their fights come to threaten the very order of the Universe. The plot is framed as a narrative between the Brahmin sage Vyasa and the Hindu deity Ganesha, and directed towards an unnamed Indian boy who comes to him inquiring about the story of the human race.

Mahabharata directed by Peter Brook. Brook's original 1985 stage play was 9 hours long, and toured around the world for four years. In 1989, it was reduced to under 6 hours for television (TV mini series). The screenplay was the result of eight years' work by Peter Brook, Jean-Claude Carrière and Marie-Hélène Estienne. For the casting an international selection of actors was intentionally chosen, to show that the nature of the Indian epic is the story of all humanity.
In 1990, the film won the award for Performing Arts of the International Emmy Awards and the Audience Award for Best Feature at the São Paulo International Film Festival.

Author Rating. . 2.0 Stars - I Didn't Like It ... Soon after they meet, it’s evident Nana (Deanna Dunagan) and Pop Pop (Peter McRobbie) aren’t quite right ... Oxenbould is forced with the comic baggage, but doesn’t bulk at the challenge of making Shyamalan’s written jokes funny (even if he’s unsuccessful), and McRobbie, finally given his moment to shine in the last 15 minutes, becomes the real highlight of the movie’s insanity ...
