Luis Royo

Luis Royo (born 1954) is a Spanish artist born in Olalla, a village in the Aragonese province of Teruel. He is best known for his fantasy illustrations published in numerous art books, magazines such as Heavy Metal and various other media including book and music CD covers, video games and Tarot cards.

Beginning his career as a furniture designer, he was attracted to the comics industry in the late 1970s by the work of artists like Enki Bilal and Moebius, and in 1979 he turned to art as a full time career. Within a few years, he was publishing art within and on the covers of such magazines as Comix Rambla Internacional, El Vibora, Heavy Metal, National Lampoon and Comic Art as well as providing cover illustrations for publishers including Tor Books, Berkley Books, Avon, Warner Books, Bantam Books and others.

Romulo Royo

Romulo Royo is a contemporary artist, born in 1976 in Zaragoza (Spain).

He produced paintings, books, sculptures, photographs, drawings and video installations. His works have a connection with fetishism, sado and fantasy genre. He brings us the current science fiction theme to the world of painting. He is driven by universes that transport us to other worlds and timeless spaces out of everyday reality to dive into the most enigmatic places, the structure of his painting is primary and resounding.

Biography

Malefic Time

Malefic Time is a project created by Luis Royo and Romulo Royo. It is set in a post apocalyptic world that mixes reality led to the decay of our society with real manifestations of mythological beliefs and superstitions of different cultures.

The main plot is presented in a trilogy of graphic novels with illustration made by both artists. We accompany the protagonist Luz through the universe of Malefic Time and meet different people, allies, enemies and their way of surviving in this broken world.

The project has been carried to other media (comics, novels, RPG, music, shorts) that much develop different aspects of the universe expanding and making it deeper.

Fictional setting

Malefic Time is a fantasy universe built from our world. It assumes that humanity is not alone in creation, but there are other creatures, called in many ways over the years, and we now know them as Celestials and Fallen.

These creatures of immense power have been influencing, manipulating us and waging a war in which each side tries to crush the other. In 2019 the world began to sink: social structures crumbled, the world economy disappeared and riots began due to a disease that began to spread worldwide. It was then in 2020 when Celestials and The Fallen showed openly to the world.

Norma Editorial

Norma Editorial is a Spanish comics publisher, with its headquarters in Barcelona.

Founded in 1977 by Rafael Martínez, Norma Editorial publishes both original Spanish comics (such as Miguelanxo Prado), Spanish translations of Japanese manga (such as work of Kia Asamiya, Clamp, Haruhiko Mikimoto, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Masamune Shirow) as well as Spanish translations of American or European comics and graphic novels (including works of Will Eisner, Frank Miller, Dave Gibbons, Enki Bilal, Hugo Pratt, Manu Larcenet, Joann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim).

History

Origin

In 1981, Norma Editorial absorbed magazines from Riego Ediciones;Cimoc and Hunter, and later on Cairo, Sargento Kirk and Humor a tope, all directed at 1984 for Joan Navarro.

With these brands, the company honed its focus on Spanish comics and European comics. Among its first published works where those of Enrique S. Abulí, Alfonso Azpiri, Beroy, Alfonso Font, Miguelanxo Prado, Segrelles, Daniel Torres or Sento; followed by the works of Enki Bilal, François Bourgeon, Vittorio Giardino, Jean Van Hamme, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Milo Manara, Moebius, Hugo Pratt, Grzegorz Rosinski or Jacques Tardi. Some sagas from these authors where published in collections such as Álbumes Cairo, B/N, Cimoc Extra Color, El Muro and Pandora.
