Peter Szymon Serafinowicz (/sɛrəˈfɪnəvɪtʃ/; born 10 July 1972) is an English actor, comedian, musician, writer, voice artist, singer and director. He is best known for playing Denarian Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy, dubbing the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and for appearing in a variety of British and American comedy series.
Serafinowicz was born in Liverpool, the son of Catherine (née Geary), a post office worker, and Szymon Serafinowicz, Jr., a scaffolder. His father is of Belarusian and Polish descent. Serafinowicz was raised Roman Catholic, and attended Our Lady of the Assumption Primary School and St Francis Xavier Secondary School.
Serafinowicz made his broadcasting debut in 1993 on Radio 1 show The Knowledge, a spoof documentary about the music industry. From there he went on to perform in Radio 4 shows Week Ending, Harry Hill's Fruit Corner, Grievous Bodily Radio, The Two Dannys and A Whole New Ball Game.
Peter often is used to refer to Saint Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ. It can also refer to many other people, of which only a few are listed here. This page only lists people commonly referred to as "Peter" and nothing else; for others, please see List of people named Peter.
Hot Chip are a British electronic music band formed in London, in 2000. They have released six studio albums: Coming on Strong (2004), The Warning (2006), Made in the Dark (2008), One Life Stand (2010), In Our Heads (2012), and Why Make Sense? (2015). The group has also been nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Early formative releases included the Mexico EP on Victory Garden Records (VG14), and the self released San Frandisco CD.
After years of self-releasing records, they signed with Moshi Moshi in 2003 and released their debut LP Coming on Strong in 2004. During this period, they were joined by Felix Martin and Al Doyle. They started working on their second album and signed a UK & US record deal with DFA Records and EMI. DFA and Astralwerks released their debut album for the first time in the US in late 2005.
In 2006, Hot Chip released their second album, The Warning. Now signed to EMI in the UK, the band gained more mainstream appeal as well as the attention of critics. The album was shortlisted for the 2006 Nationwide Mercury Prize and was Mixmag's Album of the Year 2006. This album spawned also two UK top forty singles: "Over and Over" in March 2006 and "Boy from School" in May 2006. "Over and Over" received attention for its music video, which was directed by Nima Nourizadeh, and was also named as the best single of 2006 by British music magazine NME.
The Peter Serafinowicz Show is a BBC Two comedy sketch show written by and starring Peter Serafinowicz. The first series started on 4 October 2007 at 21:30 as part of the newly launched "Thursdays Are Funny" brand on BBC2 and Thursdays on ABC2. On 1 August 2008, American cable network G4 began broadcasting the show as part of their "Duty Free TV" block of international programming.
On 13 December 2008, a 45-minute compilation episode, The Peter Serafinowicz Show: Best Of aired on BBC Two. Serafinowicz impersonated Terry Wogan to host the episode. Although the series it was culled from was aired without a laughter track, the audience reactions, which had been recorded at the time on all six shows but not used, were utilised on the clips in this special, presumably to establish continuity with the subsequent Christmas special, itself being broadcast with a complete laughter track. Serafinowicz and his brother James, believed the show would have been successful with the laugh track but ultimately decided not to use it to avoid ruining the jokes though some sketches used them to mock television programs.
