The Spirit of Rock and Roll (Live TV Special) - 1:09:44 The last major reimagining of an album that I’ll do, feast your ears upon my version of Brian Wilson’s aborted second solo album Sweet Insanity. I have another video of this album on my channel that is a direct upload of the album as it was presented from Brian to his record company, before it was rejected. This is my reassembling of what I think are worthy Brian songs from around the time the album was recorded (late 80’s to early 90’s) that makes for a more listenable experience. That means no more “Brian (Thank You)” and “Smart Girls” to bring down the whole package with their questionable quality and lyrics. Now you get “He Couldn’t Get His Poor Old Body To Move”, “Being With The One You Love” (both from the reissue of Brian’s first solo album),a mix of “The Spirit of Rock and Roll” without the strange cameos from Bob Dylan, “In My Car”, and “Let’s Stick Together”. “In My Car” was originally a solo Brian track that was then overdubbed with backing vocals from Carl Wilson and Al Jardine to fit onto a slapped together Beach Boys album from the late 80’s called Still Cruisin’, so to me it fits here fine. I’ve also kept “Make A Wish” but in the form of its instrumental track, as I have never been a fan of Brian’s quasi-rap featured on it but still think it’s a creative song that needed more focus, much like the rest of the tracks he made for the album. I have one more of these to put up and then that’ll probably be it for this series I’ve been doing, and I’ve been enjoying revisiting this stuff a whole hell of a lot. Please enjoy.
