Jeff Monson

Jeffrey William Monson (born January 18, 1971) is a mixed martial artist from Olympia, Washington. He is a two-time winner of the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship, and a No Gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu World Champion. He has competed in the UFC, PRIDE, Dream, Strikeforce, M-1 Challenge, Sengoku and Impact FC. He holds notable victories over Roy Nelson, Sergei Kharitonov, Ricco Rodriguez, Kazuyuki Fujita, Oleksiy Oliynyk and Mark Kerr.

Background

Monson was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he also grew up for most of his childhood. Monson attended Timberline High School and continued on as a Division I wrestler at Oregon State University and at the University of Illinois, and was a Pac-10 champion. He also competed at senior level at USA Wrestling events for a number of years.

Monson is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and a two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Champion. He is a mixed martial arts fighter and has had three professional boxing bouts. His professional boxing record is two wins and one draw.

Thomas S. Monson

Thomas Spencer Monson (born August 21, 1927) is an American religious leader, author, and the sixteenth and current President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). As president, Monson is considered by adherents of the religion to be a "prophet, seer, and revelator." A printer by trade, Monson has spent most of his life engaged in various church leadership positions and in public service.

Monson was ordained an LDS apostle at age 36, served in the First Presidency under three church presidents and was the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from March 12, 1995 until he became President of the Church. He succeeded Gordon B. Hinckley as church president on February 3, 2008.

Monson has received four honorary doctorate degrees, as well as the Boy Scouts of America's Silver Buffalo and the World Organization of the Scout Movement's Bronze Wolf—both awards the highest given in each organization. Monson is a member of the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America, the organization's governing body.

Alexander Emelianenko

Alexander Vladimirovich Emelianenko (Russian: Александр Владимирович Емельяненко, tr. Aleksandr Vladimirovich Emel'janenko [ɐlʲɪkˈsandr vlɐˈdʲimʲɪrəvʲɪtɕ jɪmʲɪˈlʲjanʲɪnkə]; born (1981-08-02)August 2, 1981) is a Russian mixed martial artist. He is a three-time Russian national Combat Sambo champion and three-time world Combat Sambo champion in the absolute division. He is the younger brother of Fedor Emelianenko. Emelianenko is currently serving a four and a half year prison sentence for aggravated sexual assault.

Background

Emelianenko was born on (1981-08-02)August 2, 1981 in Stary Oskol, Soviet Union. in a family of a teacher, Olga Feodorovna Emelianenko, and a welder, Vladimir Alexanderovich Emelianenko. He is the third child in the family and has an older sister, Marina, an older brother, Fedor, and a younger brother, Ivan.

In his childhood, since his parents were working during the day, Emelianenko spent a lot of time on the streets. During his early teens, he used to take part in street fights while his parents were working, going so far as being involved in a riot between neighborhoods.

Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Vladimirovich Emelianenko (Russian: Фёдор Влади́мирович Емелья́ненко, tr. Fyodor Vladimirovich Yemelyanenko, IPA: [ˈfʲɵdər vlɐˈdʲimʲɪrəvʲɪtɕ jɪmʲɪˈlʲjænʲɪnkə]) (born 28 September 1976) is a Russian Heavyweight mixed martial artist (MMA), sambist, and judoka, currently competing for Rizin Fighting Federation. He has won championships and accolades in multiple sports, most notably in MMA Pride Fighting Championships (heavyweight champion 2003-2007), FIAS World Combat Sambo Championship (Heavyweight Champion 2002, 2005, 2007), and Russian Judo Federation National Championship (Bronze medal 1998, 1999).

Emelianenko began his MMA career on May 21, 2000, with four straight victories, including a win over ADCC champion Ricardo Arona, which is considered one of his toughest fights in his career. Then came a controversial loss to Tsuyoshi Kohsaka on December 22, 2000. In his next 28 fights up until June 26, 2010 Emelianenko was unbeaten, including wins over four former UFC champions, one Pride FC champion, one former and two future K-1 champions and two former Olympic medalists. During this period he defeated eleven top-10 ranked fighters (two of them twice), in addition to winning a rematch against Kohsaka.
