Scandinavia/ˌskændᵻˈneɪviə/ is a historical and cultural-linguistic region in Northern Europe characterized by a common ethno-cultural North Germanic heritage and mutually intelligible North Germanic languages.
In English, Scandinavia usually refers the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, while Finland and Iceland are sometimes included. Modern Norway and Sweden proper are situated on the Scandinavian Peninsula, whereas modern Denmark consists of Jutland and the Danish islands.
The term Scandinavia is usually used as a cultural term, but in English usage, it is occasionally confused with the geographical term Scandinavian Peninsula, which took its name from the cultural-linguistic concept. The name Scandinavia originally referred vaguely to the formerly Danish, now Swedish, region Scania. The terms Scandinavia and Scandinavian entered usage in the late 18th century as terms for the three Scandinavian countries, their Germanic majority peoples and associated language and culture, being introduced by the early linguistic and cultural Scandinavist movement. In foreign usage, the term Scandinavia is sometimes incorrectly taken to also include Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Finland, on account of their historical association with the Scandinavian countries and the Scandinavian peoples and languages. However, this broader group of countries is officially and commonly known as the Nordic countries.
"Scandinavia" is an instrumental composition by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and is the closing track on his 1982 album Beautiful Vision.
The track was the first instrumental Morrison released and would be followed by many others throughout his 1980s career. It has been performed in concert only a few times. Morrison played the composition on 3 April 1982 at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany and was broadcast on Rockpalast in Germany and the BBC in the UK.
It was recorded at the first recording session for the Beautiful Vision album and was the only track from this session that would be used on the album. The musicians featured differed from the other tracks on the finished album and had appeared with Morrison at the Great American Music Hall in March 1981. Morrison played piano on this instrumental.
The composition was nominated in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance category for the 25th Annual Grammy Awards.
It was used throughout the 1993 BBC documentary 40 Minutes.
The Lys is a small 40 kilometres (25 mi) river (classified as a torrente) which flows from the Lys glacier on the Monte Rosa massif, at the foot of Vincent Pyramid, elevation 4,215 metres (13,829 ft), and runs through the Lys Valley, flanked by a road, before converging with the Dora Baltea as a right tributary at Pont-Saint-Martin.
Its left-side tributaries are Avant-Cir, Glassit, Loo, Mos, Niel, Pacoulla, and Tourrison. From the right it receives: Rû de Nantay, Stolen and Valbona.
Coordinates: 45°53′00″N 7°48′40″E / 45.88333°N 7.81111°E / 45.88333; 7.81111
The Leie (Dutch) or Lys (French) is a river in France and Belgium, and a left tributary of the Scheldt. Its source is in Pas-de-Calais, France, and it flows into the river Scheldt in Ghent, Belgium. Its total length is 202 kilometres (126 mi).
It is a very polluted river due to the high density of population and industry in the North of France and in Belgium. Historically, the Lys valley was known for the spinning and weaving of flax. The region of the Leie (between Deinze and Ghent) used to be known as a favourite place for numerous painters in the first half of the twentieth century.
The source of the Lys is in the village Lisbourg, east of Fruges, in the Pas-de-Calais department of France. It flows generally northeast through the following departments of France, provinces of Belgium and towns and municipalities:
LYS-16 was an early microcomputer based on the IMP-16 making it one of the first 16 bit microcomputers. It was introduced in April 1975 and the first computers were delivered in December the same year. Two batches were made by Lysator before the production was handed over to ATEW in Flen who continued to produce it until May 1978. About 1000 units were made. For display it used an ordinary TV and for storage a tape recorder. A rudimentary operating system was available.
¡Tré! is the eleventh studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day. It is the third and final installment in the ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy, a series of studio albums that were released from September to December 2012. Green Day started recording material for the album on February 14, 2012, and finished on June 26, 2012. ¡Tré! follows the power pop style of ¡Uno!, and the garage rock feel of ¡Dos! The album's title is a nod to the band's drummer Tré Cool, who turned 40 years old 2 days after the release of the album.
¡Tré! was released on December 7, 2012 in Australia, December 10 in the UK and December 11 in the US, through Reprise Records, and was produced by their long-time producer Rob Cavallo. The album received generally positive reviews from critics, although some found it incoherent on a song-for-song basis, as well as noting filler and little distinguishing factors from the two previous albums.

What if Scandinavia (Norway, Denmark & Sweden) united into United Scandinavia? What would their economy be like? Would it be one of the most powerful countries? What exactly is Scandinavia? The countries of Scandinavia are Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. We might also refer to the Scandinavian Peninsula, or Fennoscandia, which also comprises Finland and parts of Russia. Moreover, we talk about Nordic countries, and these include Iceland, Greenland and Faroe Islands. But today we are talking about three countries alone, and they are Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The countries have similar customs and cultures, and the languages are not far apart. The EU tells us the citizens of all these countries will likely be able to read each other’s language, although Swedes and Norwegians can have troubl...
