The astrophysicist and Chinese pro-democracy activist,
Fang Lizhi, who was an exile in the US due to the 1989 Tiananmen incident,
died suddenly in Arizona on April 6.
He was 76.
While many mourn his death and plan to organize
a large-scale commemoration, news of his death was blocked by the mainland authorities.
Analysts pointed out that people must not have any illusions
about the CCP due to its evil nature and owing countless debts of blood.
According to a Twitter message, on the morning of Friday
the 6th, Fang Lizhi was on his way to teach.
Shortly before leaving, he coughed,
fell in his chair, and died.
Fang Lizhi was Vice-President of the University of Science
and Technology of China.
He was one of the best-known Chinese dissidents.
He, Liu Binyan, and Wang Ruowang were the three leaders
of the 1986 student movement.
All three were expelled from the CCP in 1987 and subjected
to national criticism.
After the 1989 massacre, Fang Lizhi and his wife sought refuge in the U.S. embassy and left China a year later.
The sudden death of Fang Lizhi comes as a shock to many.
Many people have expressed their condolences, and prepare
to launch a commemoration.
Liu Yinchuan, former professor at Shandong University
and host of China Social Democratic Party Central Committee,
indicated to NTD TV that,
as a leader of the Chinese democracy movement, Fang Lizhi
contributed greatly to the Tiananmen movement of 1989.
Fang Lizhi continued to contribute to the democracy movement
in China after he exiled in the United States.
Liu Yinchuan said that his death was a great loss
to the Chinese democracy movement.
Liu Yinchuan also indicated that it's sad that Fang Lizhi,
Liu Binyan, and Wang Ruowang,
the three pioneers of the Chinese democratic movement,
have all died outside of China, respectively.
Liu Yinchuan: "As far as I know, all three gentlemen wanted
to return, to promote the democratization of China, but none of them were able to achieve their aspiration.
The one-party rule of the CCP has caused such an
aspiration impossible to achieve."
In recent years, the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao
has repeatedly discussed reform of the political system.
There was also news about Wen Jiabao's proposal
to vindicate the Tiananmen movement.
Former China University of Political Science lecturer
Wu Renhua, an exile due to the Tiananmen movement:
"The problem is that even cases such as providing
pension to the families of the victims,
cases that are relatively easy to carry out and
easy to express good intention, were not completed.
It is hard for me to believe that the CCP authorities
would conduct so-called 'vindication.'"
Chinese Democratic Party Committee Chairman Zhang Jian
also said that the CCP has too many blood debts to pay.
People must recognize the CCP's evil nature, and not rely
on the CCP's so-called "political reform."
Zhang Jian: "Wen Jiabao may have a trace of guilt in his heart,
and maybe some conscience, but I believe it is instantaneous.
What remains eternal is maintenance of this system.
Do not have any illusions (about the CCP)."
Contrary to overseas, reports of Fang Lizhi's death
were fully blocked in mainland China.
There was no report in the media, and information forwarded
by Internet users was also deleted by authorities.
Zhang Jian: "With the current situation of the CCP's
18th National Congress and
the ambiguous relationship among Bo Xilai, Zhou Yongkang,
and Wang Lijun, this is a critical time, and they are very fearful.
Fang Lizhi has a very significant impact in the domestic
knowledge domain. We can say that he is the leader of an era.
At this time, the Chinese Communists certainly do not want
to spread the news of Mr. Fang Lizhi's death."
Fang Lizhi was a Professor of Astrophysics
at the University of Arizona.
For his important work in cosmology and physics of the early
universe, Fang Lizhi was elected in 2010 for the American Physical Society Fellow.

"Fang Lizhi" was a Chinese astrophysicist, vice-president of the University of Science and Technology of China, and activist whose liberal ideas inspired the pro-democracy student movement of 1986–87 and, finally, the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Because of his activism, he was expelled from the Communist Party of China in January 1987. For his work, Lizhi was a recipient of the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Award in 1989, given each year to an individual whose courageous activism is at the heart of the human rights movement and in the spirit of Robert F. Kennedy's vision and legacy.
Fang Lizhi was born on 12 February 1936 in Peking. His father worked on the railway. In 1948, one year before the PLA took over the city, as a student of the Beijing No.4 High School, he joined an underground youth organization that was associated to CCP. One of his extracurricular activities was assembling radio receivers from used parts.
In 1952, he enrolled in the Physics Department at Peking University. There he met and fell in love with his future wife, Li Shuxian . Both Fang and Li were among the top students in their class. He joined CCP upon graduation, worked the Institute of Modern Physics and became involved in the secret atomic bomb program of China, while Li stayed at Peking University as a junior faculty.
In 1957, during the Hundred Flowers Campaign, people were strongly encouraged by the CCP to openly express their opinions and criticisms. As party members, Li, Fang and another person in the physics department planned to write a letter to the party to offer their suggestions on education. This letter was still unfinished by the time the Hundred Flowers Campaign abruptly came to an end and the Anti-Rightist Campaign started. The opinions and criticisms solicited during the earlier campaign were then interpreted as "attacks on the party", and those who expressed such opinions were labelled "rightist" and persecuted. Although no one knew about the unfinished letter, out of loyalty to the party, the three naive young people confessed about it, and Li also confessed to the party her doubts on the party. Li was expelled from the party, and was sentenced to hard labour at Zhaitang near Beijing. Fang was not immediately expelled from the party, because he played a lesser role in writing the letter, and also because he had left Peking University, where the punishment was particularly severe. Still, he was removed from the nuclear program，and sent to do hard labour in Zanhuang, Hebei province from December 1957 to August 1958. Out of political pressure, Li and Fang put their relationship on hold until early 1959, when Fang was also expelled from the party. Fang was reassigned to the faculty of the University of Science and Technology of China in August 1958, and in 1961 married Li, who remained a faculty of Peking University. In spite of his experience in the anti-Rightist campaign, he published an article in the "Guangming Daily", encouraging the independent thinking of students.

One of China's most prominent dissidents of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown, Fang Lizhi died on Friday, April 6, at age 76 in Tucson, Arizona.
Fang, who was at that time in the Chinese Communist Party, had no public role in the June 4 protests, but the leadership accused him of counter-revolutionary subversion.
Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China holds annual candlelight vigils commemorating the June 4 crackdown.
The head of Hong Kong Alliance, Lee Cheuk-yan said that Fang's openness gave hope to the students back then.
[Lee Cheuk-yan, Chairman Hong Kong Alliance]:
"I think, as an intellectual of that generation, he was already a vice principal and had high status in the Communist Party, but still he spoke out. This was very encouraging and inspiring for the students. And of course, he then protected the students and ensured that they could continue their discussions on democracy."
Lee is also a Legislative Council member of Hong Kong. Although Lee never met Fang, he feels sorry Fang was in exile for such a long time.
[Lee Cheuk-yan, Chairman Hong Kong Alliance]:
"I think it's very regretful and sad that teacher Fang had been exiled for so many years and was never allowed to return to his country. I think this makes people wonder why the Chinese Communist Party is so cruel to the patriotic, exiled pro-democratic activists."
Fang decided to find refuge after supporters of the regime burned images of him.
Fang and his wife tried to find protection in the US Embassy in Beijing for more than a year after the army's crackdown. That was the time when the Chinese regime accused them both of counter-revolutionary crimes.
In June 1990 the Chinese leadership came to an agreement with the US government. They allowed Fang to leave China for medical treatment together with his wife since they showed quote "signs of repentance".
Fang was a physics professor at the University of Arizona. According to a Twitter feed of the exiled dissident Wu Renhu, who lives in the US, Fang died of natural causes.

Fang Lizhi, a physicist who was exiled in the U.S. for 22
years after the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre, has died at his home in Arizona, U.S. on April 6, at the age of 76.
After the Tiananmen Incident, Fang and his wife had stayed
for more than one year at the U.S. embassy in Beijing until the CCP allowed him and his family to leave.
Wang Lijun, Chongqing Vice Mayor, also entered the U.S.
Consulate for asylum in early February this year.
However, the CCP removed him from the Consulate
for further investigation.
Fang Lizhi entered into the U.S. Embassy in Beijing after
the June 4th democracy movement was suppressed.
He stayed there for a long time.
Some media made a comparative analysis between
his case and that of Wang Lijun.
Two months ago, Wang entered into the U.S. consulate
for asylum. However, he was not as fortunate as Fang.
Voice of America reported on April 9 about the common
parts of Fang and Wang event.
Both of them entered into U.S. embassies or consulates
through a special way.
However, the difference is that Wang stayed for one day
and left after his application was rejected.
Fang had stayed for 384 days with permission.
Wang was taken by CCP for further investigation
and Fang went to the U.S. successfully.
Xiang Xiaoji, a student leader in the Tiananmen Incident
commented. "So let's compare the two cases—there are many differences.
Mr. Fang had a profound effect on the 89 pro-democracy
movement, and he had his life-threatened in the bloody suppression in 1989.
The U.S. government sheltered him in such a context.
However, there is no historical background in Wang's case.
For him, we were all confused on what kind of risks
he might meet.
So I think the rejection by the U.S. government
is in line with international law."
Both Fang and Wang were CCP members, and they are
the only two senior party cadres who entered into U.S. embassies or consulates in China for asylum.
Wang is a vice ministerial level senior cadre
and he is an incumbent member of CCP.
Fang was the former Vice Rector at the University
of Science and Technology of China.
He was expelled from the CCP by Deng Xiaoping
due to the so called "bourgeois liberalization".
Zhao Yuanming, a research expert on China issues said,
Fang had always opposed to the dictatorship in China,
while Wang was not a democrat at all.
Wang was an effective go-getters within CCP and
he was the main hatchet man in "Sing Red and Strike Black" movement.
Zhao Yuanming: "Fang is a democrat while Wang
is a hatchet man.This is the main difference between them.
Besides, Fang requested for asylum as he supported
the students movement in June 4 Incident.
However, from a historical point of view, Wang does not
have any sense of democracy.
Wang is a member of the CCP group; he got fame, better
status and higher positions during the ruling process."
For the two cases, U.S. embassies or consulates accepted
the asylum application of Fang, who is an intellectual standing for democracy and freedom.
However, they rejected Wang's application, which was
involved in the power struggles among CCP senior officials.
Zhao Yuanming: "Of course, I think it is reasonable that
the U.S. consulate refused his (Wang Lijun's) application.
It means Wang is not recognized as a democrat.
He is only a victim of the inner CCP struggle.
He wanted to save his life based on the asylum application.
Politically speaking, he is not deserved of U.S. asylum."
Zhao Yuanming also said that the main difference between
Wang and Fang is that Wang knows that the CCP plays according to a game of cards.
As in a member of the CCP, he knows that he cannot get
legal protection or executive shelter when an interest conflict appears.
That is why he had to choose the U.S. embassy
or consulate for protecting his life.

On April 15th 23 years ago, Chinese Communist Party
(CCP) former General Secretary Hu Yaobang died.
It caused the June 4th democracy movement
in mainland China.
At that time, Fang Lizhi advocated to reflect the value
of democracy and human rights.
He was known as the astrophysicist and spiritual mentor
of the Tiananmen generation.
His family held funeral ceremony for him last Saturday.
Whether his ashes can return to his hometown has become
a topic of concern for Chinese democracy activists.
The following are some of their views.
Known as the "Chinese Sakharov", Professor Fang Lizhi,
Liu Bingyan and Wang Ruowang were regarded as the
leaders of the student democracy movement in 1986.
In 1987, they were expelled from the CCP
and their employment, and suffered nationwide criticism.
They went abroad in exile one after another,
and now all of them have passed away abroad.
Fang Lizhi's funeral ceremony was held in the afternoon
of April 14th in Tucson, Arizona, USA.
Media reported that Li Shuxian, Fang's wife, said that
whether Fang's ashes would return to China depends on the attitude of the CCP.
Zheng Cunzhu, Los Angeles-based pro-democracy activists:
"We are all Chinese, and we have the right to return to our own country.
Especially such a person as Mr. Fang, he has already died
overseas while being in exile.
However, we still hope that he could truly realize his desire
that his ashes will be able to return to his own country.
But we all know that CCP has its saying for June 4th.
So far we cannot see any loosening, namely, there are no
signs they will actively vindicate June 4th, nor are they admitting their murder is wrong."
In 1989, after the Tiananmen massacre, Fang and his wife
went into the U.S. embassy to seek asylum.
One year later, they left China.
On April 6th, he died suddenly at his home in Arizona, USA.
It caused infinite grief and mourning for overseas Chinese.
The overseas pro-democracy and human rights activists,
such as Wang Dan, Wang Chaohua, Xiao Qiang,
Li Xiaorong Zheng Cunzhu and other people,
attended Fang's farewell ceremony.
However, many young people in China today simply
do not know who Fang is, nor have knowledge of his death.
Voice of America reported that because of CCP internet
blocking, mainland Chinese people collectively forgot about it.
Zheng Cunzhu (Los Angeles-based pro-democracy activist):
"April 15th is also the anniversary of Hu Yaobang's death 23 years ago.
In that year, his death caused students' mourning,
and led to the occurrence of June 4th incident.
So at this sensitive time, it was the death of Fang.
There is even not any news of his death.
So CCP is worried that people will think about the brutal
repression because of Fang's death.
So the CCP currently dares not to mention any event
or person related to June 4th incident."
Zhang Jian, Chairman of "China Democratic National
Committee Committee", also said why Fang Lizhi,
Liu Binyan and Wang Ruowang dedicated their lives
to China's democracy and the cause of freedom.
They were exposed to the concept of Western democracy,
and found the benefits that Chinese people dream of.
And these benefits are the universal values of human beings.
Zhang Jian: "In such a contained country as ours, these
things are seen as ghosts and goblins. So they do not recognize Western values.
Under this system, everyone is for self-preservation
and feels in danger. It is a system.
It brings great harm to our people.
That's why we say no to this system.
We have to use various ways to change it peacefully,
to overthrow it."
Zhang Jian also thinks that the Chinese pro-democracy
activists in exile returning to China is not a simple problem
of individuals going back, but is the idea of the return
of democracy.
But now, with the complex political situation in China,
under the circumstances of the CCP brutal struggle,
it's not possible for the CCP to open the lid,
letting them return to their home country.

Fang, who was at that time in the Chinese Communist Party, had no public role in the June 4 protests, but the leadership accused him of counter-revolutionary subversion. Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China holds annual candlelight vigils commemorating the June 4 crackdown. The head of Hong Kong Alliance, Lee Cheuk-yan said that Fang's openness gave hope to the students back then. [Lee Cheuk-yan, Chairman Hong Kong Alliance]: "I think, as an intellectual of that generation, he was already a vice principal and had high status in the Communist Party, but still he spoke out. This was very encouraging and inspiring for the students. And of course, he then protected the students and ensured that they could continue their discussions on democracy." Lee is also a Legislative Council member of Hong Kong. Although Lee never met Fang, he feels sorry Fang was in exile for such a long time. After the Tiananmen Incident, Fang and his wife had stayed for more than one year at the U.S. embassy in Beijing until the CCP allowed him and his family to leave. Wang Lijun, Chongqing Vice Mayor, also entered the U.S. Consulate for asylum in early February this year. However, the CCP removed him from the Consulate for further investigation. Fang Lizhi entered into the U.S. Embassy in Beijing after the June 4th democracy movement was suppressed. He stayed there for a long time. Some media made a comparative analysis between his case and that of Wang Lijun. Two months ago, Wang entered into the U.S. consulate for asylum. However, he was not as fortunate as Fang. Voice of America reported on April 9 about the common parts of Fang and Wang event. Both of them entered into U.S. embassies or consulates through a special way. However, the difference is that Wang stayed for one day and left after his application was rejected. Fang had stayed for 384 days with permission. Wang was taken by CCP for further investigation and Fang went to the U.S. successfully. Xiang Xiaoji, a student leader in the Tiananmen Incident commented. "So let's compare the two cases—there are many differences. Mr. Fang had a profound effect on the 89 pro-democracy movement, and he had his life-threatened in the bloody suppression in 1989. The U.S. government sheltered him in such a context. However, there is no historical background in Wang's case. For him, we were all confused on what kind of risks he might meet. So I think the rejection by the U.S. government is in line with international law." Both Fang and Wang were CCP members, and they are the only two senior party cadres who entered into U.S. embassies or consulates in China for asylum. Wang is a vice ministerial level senior cadre and he is an incumbent member of CCP. Fang was the former Vice Rector at the University of Science and Technology of China. He was expelled from the CCP by Deng Xiaoping due to the so called "bourgeois liberalization". Zhao Yuanming, a research expert on China issues said, Fang had always opposed to the dictatorship in China, while Wang was not a democrat at all. Wang was an effective go-getters within CCP and he was the main hatchet man in "Sing Red and Strike Black" movement. Zhao Yuanming: "Fang is a democrat while Wang is a hatchet man.This is the main difference between them. Besides, Fang requested for asylum as he supported the students movement in June 4 Incident. However, from a historical point of view, Wang does not have any sense of democracy. Wang is a member of the CCP group; he got fame, better status and higher positions during the ruling process." For the two cases, U.S. embassies or consulates accepted the asylum application of Fang, who is an intellectual standing for democracy and freedom. However, they rejected Wang's application, which was involved in the power struggles among CCP senior officials. Zhao Yuanming: "Of course, I think it is reasonable that the U.S. consulate refused his (Wang Lijun's) application. It means Wang is not recognized as a democrat. He is only a victim of the inner CCP struggle. He wanted to save his life based on the asylum application. Politically speaking, he is not deserved of U.S. asylum." Zhao Yuanming also said that the main difference between Wang and Fang is that Wang knows that the CCP plays according to a game of cards. As in a member of the CCP, he knows that he cannot get legal protection or executive shelter when an interest conflict appears. It caused the June 4th democracy movement in mainland China. At that time, Fang Lizhi advocated to reflect the value of democracy and human rights. He was known as the astrophysicist and spiritual mentor of the Tiananmen generation. His family held funeral ceremony for him last Saturday. Whether his ashes can return to his hometown has become a topic of concern for Chinese democracy activists. The following are some of their views. Known as the "Chinese Sakharov", Professor Fang Lizhi, Liu Bingyan and Wang Ruowang were regarded as the leaders of the student democracy movement in 1986. In 1987, they were expelled from the CCP and their employment, and suffered nationwide criticism. They went abroad in exile one after another, and now all of them have passed away abroad. Fang Lizhi's funeral ceremony was held in the afternoon of April 14th in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Media reported that Li Shuxian, Fang's wife, said that whether Fang's ashes would return to China depends on the attitude of the CCP. Zheng Cunzhu, Los Angeles-based pro-democracy activists: "We are all Chinese, and we have the right to return to our own country. Especially such a person as Mr. Fang, he has already died overseas while being in exile. However, we still hope that he could truly realize his desire that his ashes will be able to return to his own country. But we all know that CCP has its saying for June 4th. So far we cannot see any loosening, namely, there are no signs they will actively vindicate June 4th, nor are they admitting their murder is wrong." In 1989, after the Tiananmen massacre, Fang and his wife went into the U.S. embassy to seek asylum. One year later, they left China. On April 6th, he died suddenly at his home in Arizona, USA. It caused infinite grief and mourning for overseas Chinese. The overseas pro-democracy and human rights activists, such as Wang Dan, Wang Chaohua, Xiao Qiang, Li Xiaorong Zheng Cunzhu and other people, attended Fang's farewell ceremony. However, many young people in China today simply do not know who Fang is, nor have knowledge of his death. Voice of America reported that because of CCP internet blocking, mainland Chinese people collectively forgot about it. Zheng Cunzhu (Los Angeles-based pro-democracy activist): "April 15th is also the anniversary of Hu Yaobang's death 23 years ago. In that year, his death caused students' mourning, and led to the occurrence of June 4th incident. So at this sensitive time, it was the death of Fang. There is even not any news of his death. So CCP is worried that people will think about the brutal repression because of Fang's death. So the CCP currently dares not to mention any event or person related to June 4th incident." Zhang Jian, Chairman of "China Democratic National Committee Committee", also said why Fang Lizhi, Liu Binyan and Wang Ruowang dedicated their lives to China's democracy and the cause of freedom. They were exposed to the concept of Western democracy, and found the benefits that Chinese people dream of. And these benefits are the universal values of human beings. Zhang Jian: "In such a contained country as ours, these things are seen as ghosts and goblins. So they do not recognize Western values. Under this system, everyone is for self-preservation and feels in danger. It is a system. It brings great harm to our people. That's why we say no to this system. We have to use various ways to change it peacefully, to overthrow it." Zhang Jian also thinks that the Chinese pro-democracy activists in exile returning to China is not a simple problem of individuals going back, but is the idea of the return of democracy. Liu Yinchuan, former professor at Shandong University
and host of China Social Democratic Party Central Committee,
indicated to NTD TV that,
as a leader of the Chinese democracy movement, Fang Lizhi
contributed greatly to the Tiananmen movement of 1989.
Fang Lizhi continued to contribute to the democracy movement
in China after he exiled in the United States.
Liu Yinchuan said that his death was a great loss
to the Chinese democracy movement.
Liu Yinchuan also indicated that it's sad that Fang Lizhi,
Liu Binyan, and Wang Ruowang,
the three pioneers of the Chinese democratic movement,
have all died outside of China, respectively.
Liu Yinchuan: "As far as I know, all three gentlemen wanted
to return, to promote the democratization of China, but none of them were able to achieve their aspiration.
The one-party rule of the CCP has caused such an
aspiration impossible to achieve."
In recent years, the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao
has repeatedly discussed reform of the political system.
There was also news about Wen Jiabao's proposal
to vindicate the Tiananmen movement.
Former China University of Political Science lecturer
Wu Renhua, an exile due to the Tiananmen movement:
"The problem is that even cases such as providing
pension to the families of the victims,
cases that are relatively easy to carry out and
easy to express good intention, were not completed.
It is hard for me to believe that the CCP authorities
would conduct so-called 'vindication.'"
Chinese Democratic Party Committee Chairman Zhang Jian
also said that the CCP has too many blood debts to pay.
People must recognize the CCP's evil nature, and not rely
on the CCP's so-called "political reform."
Zhang Jian: "Wen Jiabao may have a trace of guilt in his heart,
and maybe some conscience, but I believe it is instantaneous.
What remains eternal is maintenance of this system.
Do not have any illusions (about the CCP)."
Contrary to overseas, reports of Fang Lizhi's death
were fully blocked in mainland China.
There was no report in the media, and information forwarded
by Internet users was also deleted by authorities.
Zhang Jian: "With the current situation of the CCP's
18th National Congress and
the ambiguous relationship among Bo Xilai, Zhou Yongkang,
and Wang Lijun, this is a critical time, and they are very fearful.
Fang Lizhi has a very significant impact in the domestic
knowledge domain. We can say that he is the leader of an era.
At this time, the Chinese Communists certainly do not want
to spread the news of Mr. Fang Lizhi's death."
Fang Lizhi was a Professor of Astrophysics
at the University of Arizona.
For his important work in cosmology and physics of the early
universe, Fang Lizhi was elected in 2010 for the American Physical Society Fellow.

He was one of the best-known Chinese dissidents.
He, Liu Binyan, and Wang Ruowang were the three leaders
of the 1986 student movement.
All three were expelled from the CCP in 1987 and subjected
to national criticism.
After the 1989 massacre, Fang Lizhi and his wife sought refuge in the U.S. embassy and left China a year later.
The sudden death of Fang Lizhi comes as a shock to many.
Many people have expressed their condolences, and prepare
to launch a commemoration.
Liu Yinchuan, former professor at Shandong University
and host of China Social Democratic Party Central Committee,
indicated to NTD TV that,
as a leader of the Chinese democracy movement, Fang Lizhi
contributed greatly to the Tiananmen movement of 1989.
Fang Lizhi continued to contribute to the democracy movement
in China after he exiled in the United States.
Liu Yinchuan said that his death was a great loss
to the Chinese democracy movement.
Liu Yinchuan also indicated that it's sad that Fang Lizhi,
Liu Binyan, and Wang Ruowang,
the three pioneers of the Chinese democratic movement,
have all died outside of China, respectively.
Liu Yinchuan: "As far as I know, all three gentlemen wanted
to return, to promote the democratization of China, but none of them were able to achieve their aspiration.
The one-party rule of the CCP has caused such an
aspiration impossible to achieve."
In recent years, the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao
has repeatedly discussed reform of the political system.
There was also news about Wen Jiabao's proposal
to vindicate the Tiananmen movement.
Former China University of Political Science lecturer
Wu Renhua, an exile due to the Tiananmen movement:
"The problem is that even cases such as providing
pension to the families of the victims,
cases that are relatively easy to carry out and
easy to express good intention, were not completed.
It is hard for me to believe that the CCP authorities
would conduct so-called 'vindication.'"
Chinese Democratic Party Committee Chairman Zhang Jian
also said that the CCP has too many blood debts to pay.
People must recognize the CCP's evil nature, and not rely
on the CCP's so-called "political reform."
Zhang Jian: "Wen Jiabao may have a trace of guilt in his heart,
and maybe some conscience, but I believe it is instantaneous.
What remains eternal is maintenance of this system.
Do not have any illusions (about the CCP)."
Contrary to overseas, reports of Fang Lizhi's death
were fully blocked in mainland China.
There was no report in the media, and information forwarded
by Internet users was also deleted by authorities.
Zhang Jian: "With the current situation of the CCP's
18th National Congress and
the ambiguous relationship among Bo Xilai, Zhou Yongkang,
and Wang Lijun, this is a critical time, and they are very fearful.
Fang Lizhi has a very significant impact in the domestic
knowledge domain. We can say that he is the leader of an era.
At this time, the Chinese Communists certainly do not want
to spread the news of Mr. Fang Lizhi's death."
Fang Lizhi was a Professor of Astrophysics
at the University of Arizona.
For his important work in cosmology and physics of the early
universe, Fang Lizhi was elected in 2010 for the American Physical Society Fellow.

"Fang Lizhi" was a Chinese astrophysicist, vice-president of the University of Science and Technology of China, and activist whose liberal ideas inspired the pro-democracy student movement of 1986–87 and, finally, the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Because of his activism, he was expelled from the Communist Party of China in January 1987. For his work, Lizhi was a recipient of the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Award in 1989, given each year to an individual whose courageous activism is at the heart of the human rights movement and in the spirit of Robert F. Kennedy's vision and legacy.
Fang Lizhi was born on 12 February 1936 in Peking. His father worked on the railway. In 1948, one year before the PLA took over the city, as a student of the Beijing No.4 High School, he joined an underground youth organization that was associated to CCP. One of his extracurricular activities was assembling radio receivers from used parts.
In 1952, he enrolled in the Physics Department at Peking University. There he met and fell in love with his future wife, Li Shuxian . Both Fang and Li were among the top students in their class. He joined CCP upon graduation, worked the Institute of Modern Physics and became involved in the secret atomic bomb program of China, while Li stayed at Peking University as a junior faculty.
In 1957, during the Hundred Flowers Campaign, people were strongly encouraged by the CCP to openly express their opinions and criticisms. As party members, Li, Fang and another person in the physics department planned to write a letter to the party to offer their suggestions on education. This letter was still unfinished by the time the Hundred Flowers Campaign abruptly came to an end and the Anti-Rightist Campaign started. The opinions and criticisms solicited during the earlier campaign were then interpreted as "attacks on the party", and those who expressed such opinions were labelled "rightist" and persecuted. Although no one knew about the unfinished letter, out of loyalty to the party, the three naive young people confessed about it, and Li also confessed to the party her doubts on the party. Li was expelled from the party, and was sentenced to hard labour at Zhaitang near Beijing. Fang was not immediately expelled from the party, because he played a lesser role in writing the letter, and also because he had left Peking University, where the punishment was particularly severe. Still, he was removed from the nuclear program，and sent to do hard labour in Zanhuang, Hebei province from December 1957 to August 1958. Out of political pressure, Li and Fang put their relationship on hold until early 1959, when Fang was also expelled from the party. Fang was reassigned to the faculty of the University of Science and Technology of China in August 1958, and in 1961 married Li, who remained a faculty of Peking University. In spite of his experience in the anti-Rightist campaign, he published an article in the "Guangming Daily", encouraging the independent thinking of students.

One of China's most prominent dissidents of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown, Fang Lizhi died on Friday, April 6, at age 76 in Tucson, Arizona.
Fang, who was at that time in the Chinese Communist Party, had no public role in the June 4 protests, but the leadership accused him of counter-revolutionary subversion.
Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China holds annual candlelight vigils commemorating the June 4 crackdown.
The head of Hong Kong Alliance, Lee Cheuk-yan said that Fang's openness gave hope to the students back then.
[Lee Cheuk-yan, Chairman Hong Kong Alliance]:
"I think, as an intellectual of that generation, he was already a vice principal and had high status in the Communist Party, but still he spoke out. This was very encouraging and inspiring for the students. And of course, he then protected the students and ensured that they could continue their discussions on democracy."
Lee is also a Legislative Council member of Hong Kong. Although Lee never met Fang, he feels sorry Fang was in exile for such a long time.
[Lee Cheuk-yan, Chairman Hong Kong Alliance]:
"I think it's very regretful and sad that teacher Fang had been exiled for so many years and was never allowed to return to his country. I think this makes people wonder why the Chinese Communist Party is so cruel to the patriotic, exiled pro-democratic activists."
Fang decided to find refuge after supporters of the regime burned images of him.
Fang and his wife tried to find protection in the US Embassy in Beijing for more than a year after the army's crackdown. That was the time when the Chinese regime accused them both of counter-revolutionary crimes.
In June 1990 the Chinese leadership came to an agreement with the US government. They allowed Fang to leave China for medical treatment together with his wife since they showed quote "signs of repentance".
Fang was a physics professor at the University of Arizona. According to a Twitter feed of the exiled dissident Wu Renhu, who lives in the US, Fang died of natural causes.

Consulate for asylum in early February this year.
However, the CCP removed him from the Consulate
for further investigation.
Fang Lizhi entered into the U.S. Embassy in Beijing after
the June 4th democracy movement was suppressed.
He stayed there for a long time.
Some media made a comparative analysis between
his case and that of Wang Lijun.
Two months ago, Wang entered into the U.S. consulate
for asylum. However, he was not as fortunate as Fang.
Voice of America reported on April 9 about the common
parts of Fang and Wang event.
Both of them entered into U.S. embassies or consulates
through a special way.
However, the difference is that Wang stayed for one day
and left after his application was rejected.
Fang had stayed for 384 days with permission.
Wang was taken by CCP for further investigation
and Fang went to the U.S. successfully.
Xiang Xiaoji, a student leader in the Tiananmen Incident
commented. "So let's compare the two cases—there are many differences.
Mr. Fang had a profound effect on the 89 pro-democracy
movement, and he had his life-threatened in the bloody suppression in 1989.
The U.S. government sheltered him in such a context.
However, there is no historical background in Wang's case.
For him, we were all confused on what kind of risks
he might meet.
So I think the rejection by the U.S. government
is in line with international law."
Both Fang and Wang were CCP members, and they are
the only two senior party cadres who entered into U.S. embassies or consulates in China for asylum.
Wang is a vice ministerial level senior cadre
and he is an incumbent member of CCP.
Fang was the former Vice Rector at the University
of Science and Technology of China.
He was expelled from the CCP by Deng Xiaoping
due to the so called "bourgeois liberalization".
Zhao Yuanming, a research expert on China issues said,
Fang had always opposed to the dictatorship in China,
while Wang was not a democrat at all.
Wang was an effective go-getters within CCP and
he was the main hatchet man in "Sing Red and Strike Black" movement.
Zhao Yuanming: "Fang is a democrat while Wang
is a hatchet man.This is the main difference between them.
Besides, Fang requested for asylum as he supported
the students movement in June 4 Incident.
However, from a historical point of view, Wang does not
have any sense of democracy.
Wang is a member of the CCP group; he got fame, better
status and higher positions during the ruling process."

the asylum application of Fang, who is an intellectual standing for democracy and freedom.
However, they rejected Wang's application, which was
involved in the power struggles among CCP senior officials.

On April 15th 23 years ago, Chinese Communist Party
(CCP) former General Secretary Hu Yaobang died.
It caused the June 4th democracy movement
in mainland China.
At that time, Fang Lizhi advocated to reflect the value
of democracy and human rights.
He was known as the astrophysicist and spiritual mentor
of the Tiananmen generation.
His family held funeral ceremony for him last Saturday.
Whether his ashes can return to his hometown has become
a topic of concern for Chinese democracy activists.
The following are some of their views.
Known as the "Chinese Sakharov", Professor Fang Lizhi,
Liu Bingyan and Wang Ruowang were regarded as the
leaders of the student democracy movement in 1986.
In 1987, they were expelled from the CCP
and their employment, and suffered nationwide criticism.
They went abroad in exile one after another,
and now all of them have passed away abroad.
Fang Lizhi's funeral ceremony was held in the afternoon
of April 14th in Tucson, Arizona, USA.
Media reported that Li Shuxian, Fang's wife, said that
whether Fang's ashes would return to China depends on the attitude of the CCP.
Zheng Cunzhu, Los Angeles-based pro-democracy activists:
"We are all Chinese, and we have the right to return to our own country.
Especially such a person as Mr. Fang, he has already died
overseas while being in exile.
However, we still hope that he could truly realize his desire
that his ashes will be able to return to his own country.
But we all know that CCP has its saying for June 4th.
So far we cannot see any loosening, namely, there are no
signs they will actively vindicate June 4th, nor are they admitting their murder is wrong."
In 1989, after the Tiananmen massacre, Fang and his wife
went into the U.S. embassy to seek asylum.
One year later, they left China.
On April 6th, he died suddenly at his home in Arizona, USA.
It caused infinite grief and mourning for overseas Chinese.
The overseas pro-democracy and human rights activists,
such as Wang Dan, Wang Chaohua, Xiao Qiang,
Li Xiaorong Zheng Cunzhu and other people,
attended Fang's farewell ceremony.
However, many young people in China today simply
do not know who Fang is, nor have knowledge of his death.
Voice of America reported that because of CCP internet
blocking, mainland Chinese people collectively forgot about it.
Zheng Cunzhu (Los Angeles-based pro-democracy activist):
"April 15th is also the anniversary of Hu Yaobang's death 23 years ago.
In that year, his death caused students' mourning,
and led to the occurrence of June 4th incident.
So at this sensitive time, it was the death of Fang.
There is even not any news of his death.
So CCP is worried that people will think about the brutal
repression because of Fang's death.
So the CCP currently dares not to mention any event
or person related to June 4th incident."
Zhang Jian, Chairman of "China Democratic National
Committee Committee", also said why Fang Lizhi,
Liu Binyan and Wang Ruowang dedicated their lives
to China's democracy and the cause of freedom.
They were exposed to the concept of Western democracy,
and found the benefits that Chinese people dream of.
And these benefits are the universal values of human beings.
Zhang Jian: "In such a contained country as ours, these
things are seen as ghosts and goblins. So they do not recognize Western values.
Under this system, everyone is for self-preservation
and feels in danger. It is a system.
It brings great harm to our people.
That's why we say no to this system.
We have to use various ways to change it peacefully,
to overthrow it."
Zhang Jian also thinks that the Chinese pro-democracy
activists in exile returning to China is not a simple problem
of individuals going back, but is the idea of the return
of democracy.
But now, with the complex political situation in China,
under the circumstances of the CCP brutal struggle,
it's not possible for the CCP to open the lid,
letting them return to their home country.
