I Just Had Sex

"I Just Had Sex" is a song by American comedy hip hop group The Lonely Island featuring R&B singer Akon and producer DJ Frank E. It was released as the first single from The Lonely Island's second album, Turtleneck & Chain, released in May 2011. The video, featured as a Saturday Night Live digital short, stars Akon and The Lonely Island members Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and briefly, Akiva Schaffer, with guest appearances by Jessica Alba, Blake Lively and John McEnroe. The song was banned in some countries due to its sexual content.

Background

"I Just Had Sex" was written by The Lonely Island during the winter of 2010. The comedy troupe, in the same fashion as the recording process for their debut, Incredibad, rented a house in Los Angeles and created a makeshift studio where they would record songs from that album.

The music video for "I Just Had Sex" features Akon, Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone singing about how they just had sex with their unsatisfied girlfriends played by Blake Lively and Jessica Alba. The music video takes place in New York City atop the MetLife Building with the backdrops of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and the cityscape. Various other locations such as a Central Park, a household, a bakery, a bathroom, a museum, a pub, and a girls' changing room are shown. The song features John McEnroe, first appearing at the line "Having sex can make a nice man out of the meanest fellow." The Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer, who directed the video, also makes several appearances. The album's title is referenced when Jorma sings "she let me wear my chain and turtleneck sweater" while showing him wearing the same outfit that appears on the album cover. The music video ends with the trio launching fireworks from their crotches, parodying Katy Perry's "Firework" music video.

The Lonely Island

The Lonely Island is an American comedy trio, formed by Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone at Berkeley, California in 2001. The trio first met the previous decade while attending high school. After graduating from college, they regrouped and moved to Los Angeles, California, where they struggled to find work and began making short films, combining absurdist comedy and occasionally music. Among the first performers to post their material on the Internet, they involved themselves with Channel 101, a non-profit monthly short film festival. Their popularity at the screenings led to unsuccessful pilot deals with Fox and Comedy Central, but also a writing job for the 2005 MTV Movie Awards. The show's host, Jimmy Fallon, recommended them to Lorne Michaels, the creator of Saturday Night Live.

The group was hired for Saturday Night Live in 2005, with all three as writers and Samberg as a featured player. Bypassing the traditional process of pitching, they recorded their own material independently and submitted it to the program. Their second sketch to air, "Lazy Sunday", became an online sensation, the first of many viral videos they produced while at SNL. They led their own division at the program — SNL Digital Shorts — which led to numerous viral videos, including "Dick in a Box", "Jizz in My Pants", "I'm on a Boat", "Like a Boss", "I Just Had Sex", "Jack Sparrow", and "YOLO".
