The Christmas season, or festive season, (also called the holiday season or simply the holidays, mainly in the U.S. and Canada), is an annually recurring period recognized in many Western and Western-influenced countries that is generally considered to run from late November to early January, defined as incorporating at least Christmas, and usually New Year, and sometimes various other holidays and festivals. It incorporates a period of shopping which comprises a peak season for the retail sector (the "Christmas (or holiday) shopping season"), and a period of sales at the end of the season (the "January sales"). Christmas window displays and Christmas tree lighting ceremonies when trees decorated with ornaments and light bulbs are illuminated, are traditions in many areas.
Originally within the Roman Catholic Church, the term "Christmas season" was considered synonymous with Christmastide, a term associated with Yuletide, which runs from December 25 (Christmas Day) to January 6 (Epiphany), popularly known as the 12 Days of Christmas. However, as the economic impact involving the anticipatory lead-up to Christmas Day grew in America and Europe into the 19th and 20th centuries, the term "Christmas season" began to become synonymous instead with the traditional Christian Advent season, the period observed in Western Christianity from the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day until Christmas Day itself. The term "Advent calendar" survives in secular Western parlance as a term referring to a countdown to Christmas Day from the beginning of December.
The Holidays are an Australian indie pop/soul band. Formed in Sydney in 2006, the band consists of Simon Jones, Will Magnus, Alex Kortt and Andrew Kerridge. Their debut album Post Paradise was nominated for an Australian Music Prize.
The Holidays formed in late 2006 and quickly established themselves in the Sydney music scene as an upbeat, energetic addition. Simon Jones and Will Magnus had attended high school together, previously playing in cover bands in their schools' band competition. They were often up against the band Roger Explosion in these competitions, who went on to become the Australian electropop band Art vs. Science.
Within their first year as a band together, The Holidays toured with Jamie T, with The View, with Ben Kweller, and recorded an EP of demos which quickly sold out at gigs and received regular airplay on radio stations both in Australia and in the USA. In November 2007 The Holidays were featured on the Next Crop segment of national youth radio station Triple J, soon followed by their signing with independent Australian record label Liberation Music, in early 2008.
The Holidays EP is the first official release by the Australian indie band The Holidays. It was released on 19 April 2008. The lead single off the EP was "Holiday" which received high rotation on the national youth radio station, Triple J.

Home for the Holidays is a 1972 American made-for-television horror film directed by John Llewellyn Moxey, produced by Aaron Spelling and starring Sally Field, Eleanor Parker, Julie Harris, Jessica Walter and Walter Brennan which premiered on ABC on November 28, 1972. The plot focuses on a wealthy father on his deathbed who invites his four daughters home for Christmas and asks them to murder his wife. Shortly after, the girls find that their stepmother was a convicted murderess who may or may not have killed her last husband, and they begin to fall prey to a killer dressed in a yellow rain slicker.
The film opens in an enormous house where Benjamin Morgan, a rich dying father, is talking to his oldest daughter Alex. He thinks his second wife, Elizabeth, is trying to poison him. Alex believes him. Benjamin then sends Alex off to pick up her three sisters. While Alex is driving, she stops and asks Benjamin's doctor, Ted Lindsay, for directions. He tells her and comments on the fact that they haven't come to town since their birth mother committed suicide five years ago.

There’s no place like home for the holidays. And there really was no place like Bob Hope’s home for the holidays with Bob, Dolores and the Hope family. They invited friends from the world of entertainment and sports to celebrate and reminisce about vintage seasonal sketches in the 1993 special Bob Hope’s Bag Full of Christmas Memories. Bob Hope’s TV Christmas connection began on December 24, 1950, with The Comedy Hour. Heartwarming and fun—that’s the way Bob planned it. No Christmas party would be complete without music, while flubbed lines in some sketches remain intact and a blooper really hits below the belt. The host of Christmases past hands out laughs galore!

I've tried and tried to run and hide
To find a life that's new
But wherever I go I always know
I can't escape from you
A jug of wine to numb my mind
But what good does it do?
The jug runs dry and still I cry
I can't escape from you
These wasted years are souvenirs
Of love I thought was true
Your memory is chained to me
I can't escape from you
There is no end, I can't pretend
That dreams will soon come true
A slave too long to a heart of stone
I can't escape from you
