Reginald Alfred "Reg" Varney (11 July 1916 – 16 November 2008) was an English actor, entertainer and comedian best known for his television roles on The Rag Trade and On the Buses, appearing in the latter's three spin-off film versions.
Varney was born in Canning Town, Essex. His father worked in a rubber factory in Silvertown and he was one of five children who grew up in Addington Road, Canning Town. Varney was educated at the nearby Star Lane Primary School in West Ham and after leaving school at 14, he worked as a messenger boy and a page boy at the Regent Palace Hotel. He took piano lessons as a child and was good enough to find employment as a part-time piano player. His first paid engagement was at Plumstead Radical Club in Woolwich, for which he was paid eight shillings and sixpence (42½p). He also played in working men's clubs, pubs and ABC cinemas, and later sang with big bands of the time. He and his mother decided that show business was the career for him, and he gave up his day jobs.
On the Buses is a British sitcom created by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney, broadcast in the United Kingdom from 1969 to 1973. It spawned three feature spin off films and a stage version based on the series. The writers' previous successes with The Rag Trade and Meet the Wife were for the BBC, but the corporation rejected On the Buses, not seeing much comedy potential in a bus depot as a setting. The comedy partnership turned to a friend, Frank Muir, Head of Entertainment at London Weekend Television, who loved the idea; the show was accepted and despite a poor critical reception became a hit with viewers. The programme was broadcast internationally and was extremely successful particularly in Europe, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden. In a 2004 poll to find Britain's Best Sitcom, On the Buses was rated 53rd.
Seventy-four 25-minute episodes were made, as well as three spin-off films.
At the beginning of the seventh (and last) series Arthur, who is not seen, has left Olive; they are divorced. Olive again gets a job as a clippy on the buses as they are short of money now. Stan takes a job in the north of England in a car factory in the "Goodbye Stan" episode, and the Inspector takes Stan's old room.

Farscape is a science fiction television show. Four regular seasons were produced, from 1999 to 2003. Each season consists of 22 episodes. Each episode is intended to air in a one-hour television timeslot (with commercials), and runs for 44 to 50 minutes. The regular seasons were followed by Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars in 2004, a 2 part miniseries with an air time of 3 hours. Several of the early episodes of Season One were aired out of the intended order. As the official Farscape website lists them in the production order as opposed to airing order, the list below reflects that.
The premiere of season three was preceded with a one-hour recap titled "Farscape Undressed" for new audiences.
Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars is a television science fiction mini-series written by Rockne S. O'Bannon and David Kemper and directed by Brian Henson. Following the series' unexpected cancellation in September 2002, it was designed to wrap-up the season four cliffhanger and tie up some elements of the series in general. It was broadcast on October 17 and 18, 2004.

Reg Varney is best-known as the star of British sitcom "On the Buses", but he began his show business career playing piano in English music halls. Here, he performs his own arrangement of Cole Porter's "Night and Day", in concert on August 13th, 1976 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. You'll find a longer recording of that night elsewhere on my YouTube channel, but I love this piece so much, I thought it deserved its own video!
Warren Mitchell discusses his very first television appearance on an early Benny Hill programme, and Reg Varney tells us of Benny's days in the 1940's when he was Reg's straight man on stage. I was amazed to find this recording in my cassette collection, because I had no idea it existed! I couldn't think how it came to be in my possession. The cassette is simply marked "Reg Varney -- 13/8/76" and features Reg playing piano, singing and telling jokes. The recording starts where this video does, near the end of Varney's standup comedy, just before the musical portion of his program. I thought that was strange, whoever recorded this not getting the whole show. Then when the music began and I heard the mix, heavy on instrumentation (the organ in particular) it all fell into place. Arnold Coleman, who must have been playing organ in the orchestra accompanying Varney, would've made the recording. Coleman (a well-known theatre organist in the days when musical programs...
