Disney are turning their cult classics into 3D, we talk to animators Tony Bancroft and Mark Henn about the work they're doing for the studio. Interview by Paul Byrne for http://www.Movies.ie
The movie was originally released in 1994 and is gone on to have huge success on DVD, Disney have lovingly restored the film and have released it in 3D. It tells the story of Simba, tricked into thinking he killed his father, a guilt ridden lion cub flees into exile and abandons his identity as the future King. hakuna matata!

Tony Bancroft
Anthony Bancroft is an American animator and film director who frequently collaborates with Disney. He is founder and owner of Christian animation company Toonacious Family Entertainment. Tony currently serves as the Executive VP Creative Development and Production for DivideNine Animation Studios.
Life and career
A native Californian, Bancroft grew up in Orange County. After a two-year stint at Cypress College, he enrolled in the character animation program at CalArts. This led to a summer job as a production assistant with filmmaker Ralph Bakshi and ultimately to an internship in California with Disney Feature Animation followed by a full-time position at the new Florida animation facility. Bancroft (along with this twin brother) was selected to be among the first group of animators to work at the Disney-MGM Studios. During his one-year stay in Florida, he had his first official assignment as an assistant clean-up animator on Roger Rabbit (Roller Coaster Rabbit). This was followed by a credit as animating assistant on The Rescuers Down Under working on the character of "Frank the frill-necked lizard".

The movie was originally released in 1994 and is gone on to have huge success on DVD, Disney have lovingly restored the film and have released it in 3D. It tells the story of Simba, tricked into thinking he killed his father, a guilt ridden lion cub flees into exile and abandons his identity as the future King. hakuna matata!

The 36th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics, it was directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, with story by Robert D. "A LIFE IN THE BALNCE" Storyline - Antonio Gomez, a nearly down-and-out musician, is a widower with a young boy, Paco. Fighting to support his boy in the face of uememployment and neighbors who want custody of his son (something that here in Mexico City they might just obtain), Gomez argues with an ex-girlfriend over money she owes him. After he leaves, the girlfriend is murdered by the religiuos-fanatic serial killer terrorizing the city. When neighbors report the argument Gomez had with the dead girl, the police presumes they are finally on the hot trail of the serial killer, and Gomez is their target. "A LIFE IN THE BALNCE" Storyline - Antonio Gomez, a nearly down-and-out musician, is a widower with a young boy, Paco. Fighting to support his boy in the face of uememployment and neighbors who want custody of his son (something that here in Mexico City they might just obtain), Gomez argues with an ex-girlfriend over money she owes him. After he leaves, the girlfriend is murdered by the religiuos-fanatic serial killer terrorizing the city. When neighbors report the argument Gomez had with the dead girl, the police presumes they are finally on the hot trail of the serial killer, and Gomez is their target. Gomez goes out to a pawnshop to buy his son a long-dreamed-guitar and there meets a young woman with whom he goes looking for his son. What Gomez does not realize is that a police dragnet is closing in on him and that his boy Paco actually witnessed this most recent murder and has been trailing the killer. It's not long, though, before the killer is trailing the boy.
