Volcano Choir is an American indie rock band from Wisconsin, formed in 2005. The band began as a collaboration between Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and members of Collections of Colonies of Bees. Their debut album, Unmap, was released on September 22, 2009, reaching number 92 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
Since the band's formation, Jon Mueller (Death Blues) and Thomas Wincek (of All Tiny Creatures) have left Collections of Colonies of Bees, but continue to be members of Volcano Choir. They have also added Matthew Skemp on bass, who also plays in All Tiny Creatures.
It was revealed in a 2014 interview with band members that the name "Volcano Choir" originated from a vaporizer called the "Volcano".
Volcano Choir released their second studio album, Repave, on September 3, 2013, on Jagjaguwar.
In 2014, the band contributed new music to the IndieGoGo project, "Project Carousel", entitled Sound.
Thomas Wincek toured with Field Report in 2014, supporting the album Marigolden.
A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface.
Earth's volcanoes occur because its crust is broken into 17 major, rigid tectonic plates that float on a hotter, softer layer in its mantle. Therefore, on Earth, volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging. For example, a mid-oceanic ridge, such as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, has volcanoes caused by divergent tectonic plates pulling apart; the Pacific Ring of Fire has volcanoes caused by convergent tectonic plates coming together. Volcanoes can also form where there is stretching and thinning of the crust's interior plates, e.g., in the East African Rift and the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field and Rio Grande Rift in North America. This type of volcanism falls under the umbrella of "plate hypothesis" volcanism. Volcanism away from plate boundaries has also been explained as mantle plumes. These so-called "hotspots", for example Hawaii, are postulated to arise from upwelling diapirs with magma from the core–mantle boundary, 3,000 km deep in the Earth. Volcanoes are usually not created where two tectonic plates slide past one another.
A choir (/ˈkwaɪ.ər/) (also known as a chorale or chorus) is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music, in turn, is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform. Choirs may perform music from the classical music repertoire, which spans from the Medieval era to the 2010s, and/or popular music repertoire. Most choirs are led by a conductor, who leads the performances with arm and face gestures.
A body of singers who perform together as a group is called a choir or chorus. The former term is very often applied to groups affiliated with a church (whether or not they actually occupy the choir) and the second to groups that perform in theatres or concert halls, but this distinction is far from rigid. Choirs may sing without instrumental accompaniment, with the accompaniment of a piano or pipe organ, with a small ensemble (e.g., harpsichord, cello and double bass for a Baroque era piece), or with a full orchestra of 70-100 musicians.
The term "Choir" has the secondary definition of a subset of an ensemble; thus one speaks of the "woodwind choir" of an orchestra, or different "choirs" of voices and/or instruments in a polychoral composition. In typical 18th- to 21st-century oratorios and masses, chorus or choir is usually understood to imply more than one singer per part, in contrast to the quartet of soloists also featured in these works.
September 3 is the 246th day of the year (247th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. There are 119 days remaining until the end of the year.

A lot of people come to the music of Volcano Choir - and see concerts like this one - because of the band's lead singer, Justin Vernon, an artist better-known for his work as Bon Iver. But Volcano Choir isn't a Bon Iver side project. It's a completely separate creative force, and the group's songs sound like no one else's. On the night of this show, recorded live at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., the members of Volcano Choir made magic, sometimes with layered effects in real time on both vocals and electronics, and sometimes with something as simple and beautiful as an acoustic guitar. And just when you think a song has found a groove or a peak, it would build a little more and morph into something new. Volcano Choir has released two very different records. The first, Unmap, came out...

This melting pot of musicians consist of members from various outside projects, like Justin Vernon from Bon Iver, as well as Chris Rosenau and John Mueller from the now dispersed band, Pele. Even after Pele’s break up, some of the same band members have been able to come out to Japan as Collections of Colonies of Bees, as well as other projects. Eventually, as if it were an excuse to see these guys play again, we got to see Volcano Choir perform in Japan too, thanks to their loyal following of die-hard fans. Volcano Choir are sometimes described as post-rock, but we don’t like to over-analyze their sound; we just hope you enjoy their tunes a...

On Dec. 4, just before Bon Iver took the stage at Pioneer Works, an old ironworks warehouse turned nonprofit arts and culture space, these prophetic words from Union Army officer Sullivan Ballou echoed off the Civil War-era brick walls: "Sarah, my love for you is deathless, it seems to bind me to you with mighty cables that nothing but Omnipotence could break; and yet my love of Country comes over me like a strong wind and bears me irresistibly on with all these chains to the battlefield." A week after writing those lines, Ballou was mortally wounded, dying for a cause in which he firmly believed. At first, these words struck me as disconnected from the evening's music. Bon Iver's new record, 22, A Million, feels so distant from the Civil War and the words of Sullivan Ballou. But there'...

On albums such as Volcano, Now, Diabolical or The Age Of – sometimes even on stage – the Norwegians have collaborated with orchestras and choirs again and again. Now Satyr`s most grandiose dream became flesh with Live At The Opera: on September 8, 2013 Satyricon shared the stage with the Norwegian Opera Choir in Oslo – a monumental extravaganza that has been captured on DVD and the audio masterpiece across two CDs!

Volcano Vista HS in Albuquerque, NM - Choral Concert on March 10, 2017. Vocal Velocity performs their amazing 2017 Show Choir routine!!
Unrestrained pioneers. Avantgardists. K.I.N.G.s – all this and more is the nature of the primal force and the dark beauty that is Satyricon! Front icon Satyr and drummer extraordinaire Frost have broken loose from the shackles of genre restrictions long ago and chose to tread their own paths exclusively. Tracklist: 1. Voice Of Shadows 2. Now, Diabolical 3. Repined Bastard Natio...
Like I didn't know it
Choking on the pulp of it
Semper fi
You kept me on your long line
Tugging in the whole time
Keep shining on
And that silent head grip...
Can't do it no more
The honey bin
The bunny's in
Is telling you there's a countdown
Oh, damn your eyes
Had that one a long time
Sorting out the long pipe
Hoping that the copper fits
Make sure you stay oblivious
Said that we could go back
Said that we could go find
Terra-forming!
Said that you were coke blind
Drinking in dramnesic
Tore out at the comrade
That's a comrade, making a comrade offer
That Ticonderoga's shit
Made my mind and my heart all split up over
The floor of the jackpot
There's a floor to the jackpot
Where'd you rise?
You don't even lie to me no more
Ey say you ain't a comrade
Still, I'd know you'd come back
For a folly-ridden Romeo, you break down a fortress now
Standing out in public
Stained with your conscience
I know that you love me
You are just lawless, son
Give it another fortnight
Eye to eye the culprit
Just rid the fucking pulpit
I ain't giving you another full ride
Underneath the combine
Said it didn't bump you right
Habitual falling right?
