Breaking Bad is an American television drama series created by Vince Gilligan which premiered on January 20, 2008 on the cable network AMC in the United States. The first seven-episode season ended on March 9, 2008. The second 13-episode season premiered on March 8, 2009 and concluded on May 31, 2009. The third 13-episode season premiered on March 21, 2010 and concluded on June 13, 2010. The fourth 13-episode season premiered on July 17, 2011 and concluded on October 9, 2011. The fifth and final season will premiere on July 15, 2012, with the season being split into two eight-episode parts.
Breaking Bad revolves around 50-year-old high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After Walter is diagnosed with lung cancer, he turns to a criminal life, and starts producing and selling crystal meth with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in order to secure his family's (Anna Gunn, RJ Mitte) financial future.
Breaking Bad was renewed for a final 16-episode season, which will be split into two eight-episode parts. The season will premiere on July 15, 2012, with the second part premiering in summer 2013.
Bryan Lee Cranston (born March 7, 1956) is an American actor. He is also a voice actor, writer and director. He is best known for his roles as Hal, the father in the Fox situation comedy Malcolm in the Middle and Walter White in the AMC drama series Breaking Bad, for which he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series three consecutive times. Since earning critical acclaim while starring in these television series, he has gone on to perform in many feature films.
Cranston was born in Canoga Park, California, to Peggy Sell, a radio actress, and Joseph L. "Joe" Cranston, an actor and Hollywood producer. His great-grandmother was from County Clare, Ireland. Cranston grew up in the Los Angeles area, graduated from Canoga Park High School, and earned an associate degree in police science from Los Angeles Valley College.
Cranston performed as a youth, but his show business parents had mixed feelings about their son being involved in the profession, so he did not continue until years later.
Anna Gunn (born August 11, 1968) is an American actress, best known for her roles as Assistant District Attorney Jean Ward on The Practice, Martha Bullock on Deadwood, and, currently, Skyler White on Breaking Bad. She appeared on Seinfeld in the episode "The Glasses", in the Six Feet Under episode Parallel Play and on the first season of Murder One. Gunn also provided the voice for Ariel in the Legacy of Kain series of videogames.
