Well, the wife decided to surprise me for Christmas. The ShootFastFun family now has a Taurus Judge Public Defender! Stainless Steel, chambers 2 1/2" .410 shotgun shells and .45 Long Colt, 5 shots, 2" barrel, both the large and small grip (I prefer the large grip) along with a Blackhawk holster and a BullDog case.
HAD to take it out on the range and see how it does. Works very well and easy to shoot. You will see it has a few quirks over the standard Judge but it is worth the trade in size to me.
I fired both some .410 birdshot and the Winchester PDX1 410 Defender rounds with the 3 disc projectiles in it.

A San Francisco deputy public defender was handcuffed and arrested at the Hall of Justice after she objected to city police officers questioning her client outside a courtroom, an incident that her office called outrageous and police officials defended as appropriate.
The Tuesday afternoon arrest of attorney Jami Tillotson as she denied police officers’ attempts to take photos of her client without explanation raised questions about police intimidation and harassment, Public Defender Jeff Adachi said at a Wednesday news conference.
But police said the five officers, led by a plainclothes sergeant, were investigating a burglary case in which Tillotson’s client and his co-defendant were considered persons of interest. Tillotson was cited for misdemeanor resisting or delaying arrest because she obstructed a police investigation, officials said.
“I was arrested for what we do as public defenders every day,” Tillotson said of the encounter, which was captured in a video that the public defender’s office posted on YouTube. “I asked questions. I talked to my client and explained to him his rights. At that point, I was told I was interfering and taken into custody.”

The term public defender is primarily used to refer to a lawyer appointed to represent people who cannot afford to hire an attorney in the United States and Brazil. It is also a literal translation of the Spanish-language term defensor del pueblo, which usually refers to an ombudsman office, and is the English-language title of the Jamaican ombudsman.
Brazil is the only country where an office of government-paid lawyers, with the specific purpose of providing legal assistance and representation to the destitute, free of charge, is established in the Constitution.
In civil law countries, following the model from the French Napoleonic Code of criminal procedure, the courts typically appoint private attorneys at the expense of the state. As a rule defense attorneys in such countries are not directly employed by the government.
The Constitution of Brazil uniquely provides for a public defender's office (Defensoria Pública) at both state and federal levels. Public defense is a right to poor people, who must declare, formally, that they cannot afford regular legal aid, to benefit from public defenders' services.

Well, the wife decided to surprise me for Christmas. The ShootFastFun family now has a Taurus Judge Public Defender! Stainless Steel, chambers 2 1/2" .410 shotgun shells and .45 Long Colt, 5 shots, 2" barrel, both the large and small grip (I prefer the large grip) along with a Blackhawk holster and a BullDog case. HAD to take it out on the range and see how it does. Works very well and easy to shoot. You will see it has a few quirks over the standard Judge but it is worth the trade in size to me. The San Francisco deputy public defender who was arrested at the Hall of Justice for allegedly obstructing police filed a misconduct complaint Thursday against the city officers who handcuffed her when she questioned why they were photographing one of her clients outside a courtroom. Attorney Jami Tillotson took her case to the civilian Office of Citizen Complaints after Police Chief Greg Suhr told the Police Commission late Wednesday that the department will not pursue charges against her. Suhr apologized “for any distress Ms. Tillotson suffered as a result of her detention,” but he stood by the actions of Sgt. Brian Stansbury and the other officers who arrested the lawyer. Public Defender Lawyer Sucker Punched by Client in Court
Attorney Doug Crickmer was working as a public defender in 2008 when he was sucker-punched in court by a prisoner he was appointed to defend. This occurred in Kentucky's Scott County Circuit Court and was captured on security video. The client, Peter Hafer, told Judge Rob Johnson that he was dissatisfied with Crickmer’s service, but as Crickmer began to explain his side of things, Hafer lunged at him and connected with a punch right to the the lawyer's face. The San Francisco deputy public defender who was arrested at the Hall of Justice for allegedly obstructing police filed a misconduct complaint Thursday against the city officers who handcuffed her when she questioned why they were photographing one of her clients outside a courtroom.
Attorney Jami Tillotson took her case to the civilian Office of Citizen Complaints after Police Chief Greg Suhr told the Police Commission late Wednesday that the department will not pursue charges against her. Suhr apologized “for any distress Ms. Tillotson suffered as a result of her detention,” but he stood by the actions of Sgt. Brian Stansbury and the other officers who arrested the lawyer.
Suhr’s announcement came at the same meeting in which the American Civil Liberties Union called for a review of police policy, saying last week’s courthouse incident, which was filmed and viewed on YouTube millions of times, raised serious questions about tactics and racial profiling. Tillotson’s client is black.
“While I appreciate Chief Suhr’s apology, I am concerned that he continues to support Sgt. Brian Stansbury’s actions,” Tillotson said in a statement Thursday. “My client, a young African American man, was left without the benefit of advice of counsel. The right to counsel is not a formality. It is a shield that protects ordinary people against intimidation, bullying, and overreach by law enforcement.”

This occurred in Kentucky's Scott County Circuit Court and was captured on security video. The client, Peter Hafer, told Judge Rob Johnson that he was dissatisfied with Crickmer’s service, but as Crickmer began to explain his side of things, Hafer lunged at him and connected with a punch right to the the lawyer's face. Hafer was in court, accused of having stolen $51,000 worth of jewelry from a local Kmart with the help of an accomplice.
Although public defender Doug Crickmer forgave Hafer, the Kentucky judicial system sentenced the assailant to a six-month jail term for the attack.

How fast does the Judge throw 185 grains of Hornady Critical Defense, and how fast does the XDS throw 185 grains of Critical Defense. I also compare 200-grain high-power ammo, Buffalo Bore standard-pressure in the Judge vs Gold Dot +P in the XDS.
2. I put the Public Defender on a Ransom Rest to test its accuracy and get real, quantifiable answers to the question "Is the Judge Accurate or is it Inherently Inaccurate?" Tests are conducted at 7 yards or 21 feet.

Racist texts prompt anti-bias training for San Francisco police
San Francisco police officers will undergo an anti-bias training after racist messages between officers were revealed. Suspense is a radio drama series broadcast on CBS Radio from 1942 through 1962. ne of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist. Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Suhr on Friday announced that all officers on the San Francisco force would be required to complete anti-bias training as he released nine pages of racist text messages between three officers that further tarnished the image of a department under federal investigation. “We have nothing to hide,” said Chief Suhr. “These are the actions of a few.” But the city’s public defender and experts on criminal justice said the texts appeared to reveal a deep culture of bias in the 2,000-member force that contradicts the city’s image of tolerance and liberalism. “These texts evidence a deep culture of racial hatred and animus against blacks, Latinos, gays and even South Asians,” Jeff Adachi, the public defender, said in an interview. “It can no longer be said to be an isolated problem.” A number of police departments, including those in Miami and Los Angeles, have had problems with racist messages sent by their officers. Experts in criminal justice have debated how to address bias, both conscious and unconscious. The text messages released Friday use crude and strongly disparaging language against blacks and other minorities and were discovered as part of an investigation into a rape charge against one of the officers. They come a year after a scandal involving 14 officers who also exchanged racist messages. An attempt to fire some of the 14 was rejected by a Superior Court judge, who said the statute of limitation had expired. Most of those officers remain on the force. Of the three officers whose messages were released Friday, one has retired and two have resigned. Some of the messages released Friday had been previously made public by the public defender’s office, which is reopening the files on 207 cases that were handled by the three officers who sent the messages. Though differing on the best solution to fix the problem, several Caddo Parish attorneys, judges and legal experts agreed Thursday inadequate funding of public defenders needs immediate attention.
Some contend the process should start with ensuring public defenders have a voice on the regulatory board that allocates state funds, while others argue a reliable funding source must first be in place.
On Thursday, a forum — jointly sponsored by The Times, KSLA, Shreveport Bar Association, LSUS, and Blanchard, Walker, O’Quin & Roberts — delved into potential solutions, as well as the impact unreliable funding has on indigent defendants' constitutional right to legal representation under the sixth amendment.
Louisiana's 42 public defender offices primarily depend on a combination of defendant court fees— a routine $40 per application request — and revenue amassed from a portion of traffic fines. Louisiana is one of the only states to approach funding its public defenders offices primarily through ticket citations — a means many say is not sustainable.
"We need money desperately," Caddo's public defender Pamela Smart told those gathered at LSUS Thursday.
She said the situation is so dire at her office — which laid off three attorneys and a secretary in March — it may not make it to the end of the fiscal year.
"If we have to make more cuts, we are going to stop taking cases,” she said.
Louisiana State Public Defender James T. Dixon Jr. echoed her sentiments about the gravity of the situation. He told the group the current funding system is unreliable and unstable. He referenced instances a few years ago when changes to one revenue stream increased while another went down, essentially erasing any gain.
It doesn't matter how insufficient funds are reallocated, if there isn't enough money, then there isn't enough money, he said.
"We need a permanent fix," he said.
In addition to Smart and Dixon, Thursday's panel discussion included: Caddo judge Brady O’Callaghan, Caddo District Attorney James E. Stewart, Louisiana Bar Association President Mark A. Cunningham and Blanchard, Walker, O’Quin & Roberts director and attorney Tom Arceneaux.

Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist.
Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were "withheld until the last possible second"; and evildoers were usually punished in the end.

Hickok45 plays and experiments with the popular Taurus Judge revolver. It's a lengthy shooting session with a variety of ammunition types and target distances. I demonstrate patterns and penetration at various distances. Nothing scientific, as usual, but maybe enough to give 410 gauge revolver owners and potential buyers a rough ideas of what to expect.
At various distances I shoot birdshot, 6 shot, 4shot, 00 Buck, 000Buck, and the exotic Winchester PDX defense shells.
I don't really have a big dog in the fight over whether these are great defensive guns or not, or whether the 410 is useless in this regard. I do know I would not want one shot at me after having experimented with it. It might not kill me, but it certainly would make me change my mind about further action and probably consider where I'd be finding a "see-and-eye" dog for the rest of my life. :-)
