Escritor argentino
Nació el 24 de agosto de 1899 a los ocho meses de gestación en casa de Isidoro Acevedo, su abuelo paterno, en la calle Tucumán, Buenos Aires. Hijo de Jorge Guillermo Borges y Leonor Acevedo. Bilingüe desde la infancia, aprenderá a leer en inglés antes que en castellano por influencia de su abuela materna de origen inglés. La familia del escritor viaja a Europa y, tras recorrer Londres y París, se ve obligada a instalarse en Ginebra (Suiza) al estallar la Gran Guerra.
A los siete años escribe en inglés un resumen de la mitología griega; a los ocho, La visera fatal, inspirado en un episodio del Quijote; a los nueve traduce del inglés "El príncipe feliz" de Oscar Wilde. Cursó estudios en Ginebra y pasó algún tiempo en España, donde conoció a escritores ultraístas. En 1921 regresó a su país natal y participó en la fundación de varias publicaciones literarias y filosóficas como Prisma (1921-1922), Proa (1922-1926) y Martín Fierro.
Escribió poesía lírica que quedó recopilada en volúmenes como Fervor de Buenos Aires (1923), Luna de enfrente (1925) y Cuaderno San Martín (1929). De esta época datan sus relaciones con Ricardo Güiraldes, Macedonio Fernández, Alfonso Reyes y Oliveiro Girondo. Durante los años 30, a causa de una herida en la cabeza, fue progresivamente perdiendo vista, hasta que quedó totalmente ciego a los 55 años.
Trabajó en la Biblioteca Nacional (1938-1947) de la que llegó a ser director (1955-1973). Con Adolfo Bioy Casares publicó Antología de la literatura fantástica (1940). En 1955, año en que es derrocado el gobierno de Perón, le nombran director de la Biblioteca Nacional, fue miembro de la Academia Argentina de las Letras, recibe el Premio Nacional de Literatura y es reconocido como Doctor Honoris Causa en la Universidad de Cuyo.
Trabajó en la Universidad de Buenos Aires impartiendo clases de Literatura inglesa. Poco a poco fue dejando la poesía en favor de los relatos breves. Aunque es más conocido por sus cuentos, sus primeros pasos en la escritura fueron con ensayos filosóficos y literarios, algunos de los cuales se encuentran reunidos en Inquisiciones. La Historia universal de la infamia (1935) es una colección de cuentos basados en criminales reales. Jorge Luis Borges nunca escribió una novela en su larga vida. En 1960 su obra era valorada universalmente como una de las más originales de América Latina.
Una visita al oftalmólogo le confirma lo que para él se convierte en una muerte anticipada: su vista está muy cansada. "Prohibido leer", sentencia el doctor. El escritor se convierte en un inválido que depende de su madre, y de un escogido círculo de amistades, que no dudan en realizar con él una solidaria labor amanuense.
Borges publica en el diario La Nación su poema más triste: El remordimiento ("He cometido el peor de los pecados / que un hombre puede cometer. No he sido /No he sido feliz...) Aturdido por la soledad en la que le deja la ausencia de su mejor amiga, el escritor se lanza a una serie inagotable de viajes por el mundo. Le acompaña María Kodama, que se convirtió en su secretaria y su mano derecha.
En 1961 comparte el Premio Fomentor con Samuel Beckett, y en 1980 el Cervantes con Gerardo Diego. El 27 de Marzo de 1983 publica en el diario La Nación de Buenos Aires el relato "Agosto 25, 1983", en que profetiza su suicidio para esa fecha exacta. Preguntado tiempo más tarde sobre por qué no se había suicidado en la fecha anunciada, contesta lisamente: "Por cobardía". Ese mismo año la Academia sueca otorga el Premio Nobel a William Golding. Borges fue candidato durante casi treinta años al Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Sus posturas políticas evolucionaron desde el izquierdismo juvenil al nacionalismo y después a un liberalismo escéptico desde el que se opuso al fascismo y al peronismo. Fue censurado por permanecer en Argentina durante las dictaduras militares de la década de 1970, aunque jamás apoyó a la Junta militar. Con la restauración democrática en 1983 se volvió más escéptico.
El 26 de abril de 1986 se casa por poderes en Colonia Rojas Silva, en el Chaco paraguayo, con María Kodama. El escritor de "Historia universal de la infamia" nunca llegó a convivir con Kodama, con quien se casó 45 días antes de su muerte. La apresurada boda, que levantó la suspicacia de algunos conocidos del escritor y de los medios de comunicación, convirtió a Kodama en heredera de un gran patrimonio tanto económico como intelectual. "Borges y yo somos una misma cosa, pero la gente no puede entenderlo", sentenció. Kodama se convirtió en presidenta de la Fundación Internacional Jorge Luis Borges.
El escritor falleció en Ginebra, Suiza, el 14 de junio de 1986.

The Phoenician letter gave rise to the Greek Alpha (Α), being re-interpreted to express not the glottal consonant but the accompanying vowel, and hence the Latin A and Cyrillic А.
The aleph is in Unicode at U+05D0 א hebrew letter alef (HTML: א).
In phonetics, aleph (English pronunciation: /ˈɑːlɪf/) originally represented the glottal stop ([ʔ]), usually transliterated as U+02BE ʾ modifier letter right half ring (HTML: ʾ), based on the Greek spiritus lenis ʼ. For example, in the transliteration of the letter name itself, ʾāleph.
The name aleph is derived from the West Semitic word for "ox", and the shape of the letter derives from a Proto-Sinaitic glyph based on a hieroglyph
which depicts an ox's head.
In Modern Standard Arabic, there is a word أليف /ʔaliːf/ which literally means "tamed" or "coy", derived from the root |ʔ-l-f| from which the past tense verb آلَفَ /ʔaːlafa/ means to "to coy". This has sometimes been connected with the name of alif in folk etymology.[citation needed] In modern Hebrew, the same root t |ʔ-l-f| (alef-lamed-pe) gives "me'ulaf", the passive participle of the verb "le'alef", and means trained (when referring to pets) or tamed (when referring to wild animals); the IDF rank of Aluf, taken from an Edomite title of nobility, is also cognate.[clarification needed]

Trabajó en la Biblioteca Nacional (1938-1947) de la que llegó a ser director (1955-1973). Con Adolfo Bioy Casares publicó Antología de la literatura fantástica (1940). En 1955, año en que es derrocado el gobierno de Perón, le nombran director de la Biblioteca Nacional, fue miembro de la Academia Argentina de las Letras, recibe el Premio Nacional de Literatura y es reconocido como Doctor Honoris Causa en la Universidad de Cuyo. Trabajó en la Universidad de Buenos Aires impartiendo clases de Literatura inglesa. Poco a poco fue dejando la poesía en favor de los relatos breves. Aunque es más conocido por sus cuentos, sus primeros pasos en la escritura fueron con ensayos filosóficos y literarios, algunos de los cuales se encuentran reunidos en Inquisiciones. La Historia universal de la infamia (1935) es una colección de cuentos basados en criminales reales. Jorge Luis Borges nunca escribió una novela en su larga vida. En 1960 su obra era valorada universalmente como una de las más originales de América Latina. Una visita al oftalmólogo le confirma lo que para él se convierte en una muerte anticipada: su vista está muy cansada. "Prohibido leer", sentencia el doctor. El escritor se convierte en un inválido que depende de su madre, y de un escogido círculo de amistades, que no dudan en realizar con él una solidaria labor amanuense. Borges publica en el diario La Nación su poema más triste: El remordimiento ("He cometido el peor de los pecados / que un hombre puede cometer. No he sido /No he sido feliz...) Aturdido por la soledad en la que le deja la ausencia de su mejor amiga, el escritor se lanza a una serie inagotable de viajes por el mundo. Le acompaña María Kodama, que se convirtió en su secretaria y su mano derecha. En 1961 comparte el Premio Fomentor con Samuel Beckett, y en 1980 el Cervantes con Gerardo Diego. El 27 de Marzo de 1983 publica en el diario La Nación de Buenos Aires el relato "Agosto 25, 1983", en que profetiza su suicidio para esa fecha exacta. Preguntado tiempo más tarde sobre por qué no se había suicidado en la fecha anunciada, contesta lisamente: "Por cobardía". Ese mismo año la Academia sueca otorga el Premio Nobel a William Golding. Borges fue candidato durante casi treinta años al Premio Nobel de Literatura. Sus posturas políticas evolucionaron desde el izquierdismo juvenil al nacionalismo y después a un liberalismo escéptico desde el que se opuso al fascismo y al peronismo. Fue censurado por permanecer en Argentina durante las dictaduras militares de la década de 1970, aunque jamás apoyó a la Junta militar. Con la restauración democrática en 1983 se volvió más escéptico. El 26 de abril de 1986 se casa por poderes en Colonia Rojas Silva, en el Chaco paraguayo, con María Kodama. El escritor de "Historia universal de la infamia" nunca llegó a convivir con Kodama, con quien se casó 45 días antes de su muerte. La apresurada boda, que levantó la suspicacia de algunos conocidos del escritor y de los medios de comunicación, convirtió a Kodama en heredera de un gran patrimonio tanto económico como intelectual. "Borges y yo somos una misma cosa, pero la gente no puede entenderlo", sentenció. Kodama se convirtió en presidenta de la Fundación Internacional Jorge Luis Borges. El escritor falleció en Ginebra, Suiza, el 14 de junio de 1986. -

Nació el 24 de agosto de 1899 a los ocho meses de gestación en casa de Isidoro Acevedo, su abuelo paterno, en la calle Tucumán, Buenos Aires. Hijo de Jorge Guillermo Borges y Leonor Acevedo. Bilingüe desde la infancia, aprenderá a leer en inglés antes que en castellano por influencia de su abuela materna de origen inglés. La familia del escritor viaja a Europa y, tras recorrer Londres y París, se ve obligada a instalarse en Ginebra (Suiza) al estallar la Gran Guerra.
A los siete años escribe en inglés un resumen de la mitología griega; a los ocho, La visera fatal, inspirado en un episodio del Quijote; a los nueve traduce del inglés "El príncipe feliz" de Oscar Wilde. Cursó estudios en Ginebra y pasó algún tiempo en España, donde conoció a escritores ultraístas. En 1921 regresó a su país natal y participó en la fundación de varias publicaciones literarias y filosóficas como Prisma (1921-1922), Proa (1922-1926) y Martín Fierro.
Escribió poesía lírica que quedó recopilada en volúmenes como Fervor de Buenos Aires (1923), Luna de enfrente (1925) y Cuaderno San Martín (1929). De esta época datan sus relaciones con Ricardo Güiraldes, Macedonio Fernández, Alfonso Reyes y Oliveiro Girondo. Durante los años 30, a causa de una herida en la cabeza, fue progresivamente perdiendo vista, hasta que quedó totalmente ciego a los 55 años.
Trabajó en la Biblioteca Nacional (1938-1947) de la que llegó a ser director (1955-1973). Con Adolfo Bioy Casares publicó Antología de la literatura fantástica (1940). En 1955, año en que es derrocado el gobierno de Perón, le nombran director de la Biblioteca Nacional, fue miembro de la Academia Argentina de las Letras, recibe el Premio Nacional de Literatura y es reconocido como Doctor Honoris Causa en la Universidad de Cuyo.
Trabajó en la Universidad de Buenos Aires impartiendo clases de Literatura inglesa. Poco a poco fue dejando la poesía en favor de los relatos breves. Aunque es más conocido por sus cuentos, sus primeros pasos en la escritura fueron con ensayos filosóficos y literarios, algunos de los cuales se encuentran reunidos en Inquisiciones. La Historia universal de la infamia (1935) es una colección de cuentos basados en criminales reales. Jorge Luis Borges nunca escribió una novela en su larga vida. En 1960 su obra era valorada universalmente como una de las más originales de América Latina.
Una visita al oftalmólogo le confirma lo que para él se convierte en una muerte anticipada: su vista está muy cansada. "Prohibido leer", sentencia el doctor. El escritor se convierte en un inválido que depende de su madre, y de un escogido círculo de amistades, que no dudan en realizar con él una solidaria labor amanuense.
Borges publica en el diario La Nación su poema más triste: El remordimiento ("He cometido el peor de los pecados / que un hombre puede cometer. No he sido /No he sido feliz...) Aturdido por la soledad en la que le deja la ausencia de su mejor amiga, el escritor se lanza a una serie inagotable de viajes por el mundo. Le acompaña María Kodama, que se convirtió en su secretaria y su mano derecha.
En 1961 comparte el Premio Fomentor con Samuel Beckett, y en 1980 el Cervantes con Gerardo Diego. El 27 de Marzo de 1983 publica en el diario La Nación de Buenos Aires el relato "Agosto 25, 1983", en que profetiza su suicidio para esa fecha exacta. Preguntado tiempo más tarde sobre por qué no se había suicidado en la fecha anunciada, contesta lisamente: "Por cobardía". Ese mismo año la Academia sueca otorga el Premio Nobel a William Golding. Borges fue candidato durante casi treinta años al Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Sus posturas políticas evolucionaron desde el izquierdismo juvenil al nacionalismo y después a un liberalismo escéptico desde el que se opuso al fascismo y al peronismo. Fue censurado por permanecer en Argentina durante las dictaduras militares de la década de 1970, aunque jamás apoyó a la Junta militar. El 26 de abril de 1986 se casa por poderes en Colonia Rojas Silva, en el Chaco paraguayo, con María Kodama. El escritor de "Historia universal de la infamia" nunca llegó a convivir con Kodama, con quien se casó 45 días antes de su muerte. La apresurada boda, que levantó la suspicacia de algunos conocidos del escritor y de los medios de comunicación, convirtió a Kodama en heredera de un gran patrimonio tanto económico como intelectual. "Borges y yo somos una misma cosa, pero la gente no puede entenderlo", sentenció. Kodama se convirtió en presidenta de la Fundación Internacional Jorge Luis Borges.
El escritor falleció en Ginebra, Suiza, el 14 de junio de 1986.

Escritor argentino
Nació el 24 de agosto de 1899 a los ocho meses de gestación en casa de Isidoro Acevedo, su abuelo paterno, en la calle Tucumán, Buenos Aires. Hijo de Jorge Guillermo Borges y Leonor Acevedo. Bilingüe desde la infancia, aprenderá a leer en inglés antes que en castellano por influencia de su abuela materna de origen inglés. La familia del escritor viaja a Europa y, tras recorrer Londres y París, se ve obligada a instalarse en Ginebra (Suiza) al estallar la Gran Guerra.
A los siete años escribe en inglés un resumen de la mitología griega; a los ocho, La visera fatal, inspirado en un episodio del Quijote; a los nueve traduce del inglés "El príncipe feliz" de Oscar Wilde. Cursó estudios en Ginebra y pasó algún tiempo en España, donde conoció a escritores ultraístas. En 1921 regresó a su país natal y participó en la fundación de varias publicaciones literarias y filosóficas como Prisma (1921-1922), Proa (1922-1926) y Martín Fierro.
Escribió poesía lírica que quedó recopilada en volúmenes como Fervor de Buenos Aires (1923), Luna de enfrente (1925) y Cuaderno San Martín (1929). De esta época datan sus relaciones con Ricardo Güiraldes, Macedonio Fernández, Alfonso Reyes y Oliveiro Girondo. Durante los años 30, a causa de una herida en la cabeza, fue progresivamente perdiendo vista, hasta que quedó totalmente ciego a los 55 años.
Trabajó en la Biblioteca Nacional (1938-1947) de la que llegó a ser director (1955-1973). Con Adolfo Bioy Casares publicó Antología de la literatura fantástica (1940). En 1955, año en que es derrocado el gobierno de Perón, le nombran director de la Biblioteca Nacional, fue miembro de la Academia Argentina de las Letras, recibe el Premio Nacional de Literatura y es reconocido como Doctor Honoris Causa en la Universidad de Cuyo.
Trabajó en la Universidad de Buenos Aires impartiendo clases de Literatura inglesa. Poco a poco fue dejando la poesía en favor de los relatos breves. Aunque es más conocido por sus cuentos, sus primeros pasos en la escritura fueron con ensayos filosóficos y literarios, algunos de los cuales se encuentran reunidos en Inquisiciones. La Historia universal de la infamia (1935) es una colección de cuentos basados en criminales reales. Jorge Luis Borges nunca escribió una novela en su larga vida. En 1960 su obra era valorada universalmente como una de las más originales de América Latina.
Una visita al oftalmólogo le confirma lo que para él se convierte en una muerte anticipada: su vista está muy cansada. "Prohibido leer", sentencia el doctor. El escritor se convierte en un inválido que depende de su madre, y de un escogido círculo de amistades, que no dudan en realizar con él una solidaria labor amanuense.
Borges publica en el diario La Nación su poema más triste: El remordimiento ("He cometido el peor de los pecados / que un hombre puede cometer. No he sido /No he sido feliz...) Aturdido por la soledad en la que le deja la ausencia de su mejor amiga, el escritor se lanza a una serie inagotable de viajes por el mundo. Le acompaña María Kodama, que se convirtió en su secretaria y su mano derecha.
En 1961 comparte el Premio Fomentor con Samuel Beckett, y en 1980 el Cervantes con Gerardo Diego. El 27 de Marzo de 1983 publica en el diario La Nación de Buenos Aires el relato "Agosto 25, 1983", en que profetiza su suicidio para esa fecha exacta. Preguntado tiempo más tarde sobre por qué no se había suicidado en la fecha anunciada, contesta lisamente: "Por cobardía". Ese mismo año la Academia sueca otorga el Premio Nobel a William Golding. Borges fue candidato durante casi treinta años al Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Sus posturas políticas evolucionaron desde el izquierdismo juvenil al nacionalismo y después a un liberalismo escéptico desde el que se opuso al fascismo y al peronismo. Fue censurado por permanecer en Argentina durante las dictaduras militares de la década de 1970, aunque jamás apoyó a la Junta militar. So in its original pictograph form, the word "Torah" (הרות) means "The covenant of the nail is the beginning of revelation"! Said backwards it is "Revealed is the head of the nail covenant".
Example 2:
The first two letters of the Hebrew aleph-bet are Aleph (א) and Bet (ב). Aleph means "strength, power, leader" and Bet means "house". Together, those two letters mean "the strength of the house". Furthermore, together, Aleph and Bet also spell the Hebrew word "Av," which means Father! Our Father is the "Strength of our House"!
