San Antonio ~ Texas ~ Discover San Antonio ~ Travel Guide
officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh most populous city in the United States of America and the second most populous city in the state of Texas, with a population of 1,409,019.[1] It was the fastest growing of the top 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000.[4][5] The city is located in the American Southwest, the south–central part of Texas, and the southwestern corner of an urban region known as the Texas Triangle.
San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County. The city has characteristics of other western urban centers in which there are sparsely populated areas and a low density rate outside of the city limits. San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area. Commonly referred to as Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area has a population of over 2.27 million based on the 2013 US Census estimate, making it the 25th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in the state of Texas. Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
San Antonio was named for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is on June 13, by a 1691 Spanish expedition in the area. It is notable for Spanish colonial missions, the Alamo, the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks, and the city is visited by approximately 26 million tourists per year, according to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau. The city is home to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the country.
The US armed forces have numerous facilities in San Antonio: Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base (which constitute Joint Base San Antonio), and Lackland AFB/Kelly Field Annex, with Camp Bullis and Camp Stanley located outside the city. Kelly Air Force Base operated out of San Antonio until 2001, when the airfield was transferred to Lackland AFB. The remaining portions of the base were developed as Port San Antonio, an industrial/business park. San Antonio is home to six Fortune 500 companies and the South Texas Medical Center, the only medical research and care provider in the South Texas region.

San Antonio at the junction of US 380 and one mile east of I-25 is the only one listed on the current New Mexico map. It is located ten miles south of Socorro and ten miles north of the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge.
The post office was established in 1870, and is still in existence. The site of this village may date back as far as 1600. Two friars established a mission at the Piro Indian Pueblo, but after the Pueblo revolt of 1680, people left. Floods, pot hunting and recycling of materials makes it very difficult to establish exactly where the pueblo may have existed.
At about the time the post office was established, northern Hispanic settlers began to resettle there, and they kept the name San Antonio. These settlers raised grain, beans, chile, onions and grapes, and the Atcheson Topeka and the Santa Fe Railroad established a station there. The railroad was soon hauling alfalfa, wine, coal and coke. It was the advent of the railroad that ultimately gave the community its fame. Conrad Hiltons father arrived here in the 1880s and opened a store. He was later to become known as The merchant king of San Antonio, as he also established a stage line to White Oaks, a then-mining town eighty miles to the east. He and his wife opened their home as a hotel, and it was here that Conrad had his first hotel experience.
Today the Hilton family home, at Sixth and Main Street, is in ruins. The Owl Bar, a tourist stopover and meeting place for locals, contains the bar from the old Crystal Palace. The bar is listed on the State Historical and Cultural Properties . The old Crystal Palace still stands on Main Street but is not open to the public.
The coal, wine and crops are gone, but San Antonio, New Mexico, still exists.

San Antonio - It was here that the world-renowned Hilton Hotel had its beginning and claimed for San Antonio a famous son, Conrad Hilton. Born December 25, 1887, Conrad became business partners with his father in 1915 and bought his first hotel four years later in Cisco, Texas. Today, the once prosperous Hilton section of San Antonio is reduced to an old post office building, a few other deserted buildings, and ruins. Present-day San Antonio, a functioning community, lies just north of the older section. San Antonio has some excellent Bed and Breakfast establishments that cater to visitors who come to see the migrating birds at the nearby Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. Come to Boston to discover a city with roots in both the past and future.
Classic Boston sightseeing begins with walking the Freedom Trail for a bird’s-eye view of the American Revolution, including Boston Common and “Old Ironsides,” the USS Constitution. Stop by some of the most prestigious colleges in the nation, including Harvard and Tufts University. Continue your Boston tour with a stop at Faneuil Hall, which has served as a marketplace since 1742, and check out a variety of shops and street performers.
No trip to Boston is complete without paying homage at Fenway Park, where the Red Sox have held court for over a century. Don’t forget to fuel up with food afterward; Boston boasts a variety of restaurants, ranging from fresh seafood to classic Italian and everything in between.

Manuel Antonio National Park - Costa Rica Tourism (HD)
Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube
Located 120 miles (192 km) from San Jose on the Pacific coast, Manuel Antonio National Park is internationally recognized as being one of the most biodiverse parks on the planet. Lush tropical forests, lagoons, mangroves and pristine white sandy beaches make up one of the most diverse ecosystems imaginable. Among the 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds, some of the frequently viewed residents include white-faced and howler monkeys, two and three toed sloths and iguanas. The endangered squirrel monkey calls the park home as well.
The park contains a great system of well marked trails to allow visitors to explore (maps may be purchased at the park entrance). The four beaches in the park, Espadilla Sur, Manuel Antonio, Escondito and Playita, are some of the best in the country. Espadilla Sur and Manuel Antonio offer very good snorkeling when the water is clear, which is best during the dry season. At 236 feet (72 m) high, Cathedral Point lies between Playa Espadilla Sur and Playa Manuel Antonio. It is connected to the mainland by a narrow land bridge and if you&re; up for the hike, provides a memorable view. Playa Manuel Antonio offers a glimpse into the past with pre-Columbian turtle traps made of stone. Surfing, swimming or just relaxing under the sun are favorite activities for park goers.
Manuel Antonio National Park is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7:30 am to 4 pm. Regulations have been in effect to limit the amount of visitors to 600 on weekdays and 800 on weekends and holidays. To avoid large crowds, early morning from May to November may be the best time to experience the park. Peak months are from December to April. The entrance fee is $6 and free for children 12 and under. Petty theft is common around the park so be sure not to leave your possessions unguarded.
Landscape in Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
=========
The park is 682.7 Hectares in size; partly land, partly sea and mostly known for its beautiful beaches and wildlife. It is Costa Rica's smallest park. There are four primary beaches in Manuel Antonio: Espadilla Sur, Manuel Antonio, Escondido and Playita. This national park is located on the pacific coast of Costa Rica in the province of Puntarenas.
Flora and fauna
============
In the park there is a lot of wildlife to be seen: Squirrel monkeys, white-faced monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crabs, toucans, bats, birds and golden orb spiders.
Please do not feed the monkeys As tempting as it may seem and even if others are doing it, please do not feed the monkeys. The reasons to avoid this are endless and doing so contributes to the endangerment of the animals in and around the park. Do not feed any of the wild anaimals. They are devloping a tatse for Human food and will steal your lunch. You will be thrown out. The signs warning you of this are in English.
See in Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
========================
The beach. The prettiest beach is the furthest from the park entrance by the cul-de-sac. You enter the park and walk past two beachs in the natational park untill you make the turn to the left. It is a white sand beach about ½ mile in length, in a small crescent. The beach is about 40 feet from the jungle to the water. The waves are gentle and the current is not strong. The beach itself is free of trash and litter, as are most beaches in CR. There is no life guard.
Outside the National park there is another beach, which you will pass on the way to the National park, it is free to enter. One this beach one can rent chairs, surf and boogie boards, and purchase a massage. The waves are siginificantly larger. There is no life guard. There are no life guards at these beachs and one swims at their own risk. There are no marker bouys signling how far it is safe for one to go. There is not a dangerous current, as of summer 2007, at Manuel Antonio, but any person should familarize them selves with how to swim out of a rip current when going to a new beach that has no life guard.
Do in Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
=======================
1 - Hiking in the national park. There are 4 short trails in the park (1-3 km). You can do the most common one with a guide and then once your tour is over, take time to follow one of the other trails, and also go swim.
2 - Wildlife watching with guide. $20 per person.
3 - Fishing Best place in the world to bend a rod. Huge sailfish and Marlin caught nearly every trip.
4 - Relax at the beautiful beaches inside the park. Water is normally clear-blue in color.

There are four primary beaches in Manuel Antonio: Espadilla Sur, Manuel Antonio, Escondido and Playita. This national park is located on the pacific coast of Costa Rica in the province of Puntarenas.
Flora and fauna
============
========================
=======================

The Chorus Pass includes entry to 16 of Venice's churches, including the spectacular Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari and the church of Santa Maria Formosa. The pass is valid for one year and is available for purchase online, at the tourist office and from participating churches.
The Museum Pass allows entry to 10 civic museums, including the Doge's Palace. The ticket is valid for six months and allows a single admission to each museum.
Basilica dei Frari (Church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari)
The glorious gothic Church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, constructed around 1330, is primarily associated with the name of Titian, Venice's painter son who is buried here, alongside the city's celebrated sculptor, Antonio Canova. Titian made his reputation and crowned his early years by painting the huge altar piece, The Assumption of the Virgin, for the Franciscan brothers of the Frari in 1518. Titian also executed the painting over the Pesaro family altar in the north aisle. The inclusion of the flag and Turk in the painting alludes to Bishop Pesaro's victory over the Turks at Santa Maura. Titian's tomb, located in the south aisle, faces the large marble pyramid created for Canova, depicting St Mark's lion paying homage to the dead sculptor. Ironically, the design, executed by Canova's pupils, was based on Canova's own plans for a new monument to Titian.
Opening Times: Mon-Sat 0900-1800, Sun 1300-1800.
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: Yes
Address: San Polo 3072, Venice, Italy
Basilica di San Marco (St Mark's Basilica)
The golden Byzantine St Mark's Basilica was founded in the ninth century as a shrine for the relics of St Mark. Built on a plan of a Greek cross, its Eastern appearance is enhanced by golden mosaics, originally created by craftsmen from the Byzantine court at Ravenna. The interior houses many of Venice's greatest treasures, including the venerated icon of the Madonna Nicopeia. The golden screen behind the high altar - the crypt in which St Mark is supposed to be buried - is the Pala d'Oro, beautifully crafted with sapphires, emeralds and rubies and inset with enamels from Constantinople. Before leaving St Mark's, visitors should pause to admire the 12th-century pavement, a resplendent mosaic of glass and marble. It is possible to book online to avoid the long queues at www.venetoinside.com
Opening Times: Mon-Sat 0945-1700, Sun 1400-1700 (Apr-Oct); Mon-Sat 0945-1700, Sun 1400-1600 (Nov-Mar).
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: Yes
Address: Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy
Campanile di San Marco (Bell Tower)
The bell tower, which is located to one side of St Mark's Square, is the tallest structure in Venice and offers a unique view of this fabulous city. At 318 ft (97m) high, visitors prepared to make the lengthy climb can look out over the rooftops of the city. In a strange twist, the view from the top can be good enough on a clear day to catch a glimpse of the distant dolomites, but doesn't allow for a view of any of the canals. The tower collapsed in 1902 and was rebuilt exactly as before.
Opening Times: 0700-1545 (Nov-Apr) 0900-2100 (Jul-Sept).
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: No
Unesco: Yes
Address: Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy

6 Costly Myths when Choosing San Antonio Storage. Call them myths or misconceptions, mending these minor errors in thinking will streamline your San Antonio storage decisions and save you a boatload of money to boot!
http://youtu.be/TMBUeOMxYcM
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBcxGEUwPPYgJP1Ce3JYOaUaycih7Q6_d
Storage Myth #2: Low price is the only thing I should consider when choosing a Storage Facility in San Antonio TX.
Of course this is not true. And by watching other videos in this YouTube Channel, you have learned that there is far more to consider when selecting a storage facility than merely price. In fact, studies conducted in the storage industry have shown that price usually ranks near the bottom of the list, usually 5th or 6th in a typical list of selection criteria.
So lets look at a list of these 6 criteria:
These first two considerations are interchangeable...or better said, these first two both rank #1 as the highest priority!
1st Location Both the convenience of location and your comfort level with the location's part of town, are important considerations when selecting a storage facility in the greater San Antonio metro area.
1st Managers Managers need to live on-site, of course, but you must also have confidence in them as business people. While you may or may not "like" them personally, you should absolutely respect their ability to run the business and protect your interests.
3rd Security Features
A solid contender for your business should have a large grouping of Security features, that when taken together, create an integrated security system.
4th Variety of Sizes & Types
The best way to save money in self storage is to rent the appropriate size and type of storage unit. A facility with a wide variety of sizes and types allows you to pick and choose at will. A narrow selection may require you to "settle" for more or less than you need, causing you to pay more or get less than you should.
5th Price: Monthly rate and Move-In Specials, Discounts & Giveaways
Finally there is price (or monthly rental rate, to be more accurate.) And don't forget to consider Move-In Specials, discounts and free giveaways like locks or boxes that they may throw in to sweeten the pot.
While many shoppers in San Antonio feel compelled to fixate on the monthly rate they will pay, if the monthly rate is the one and only criteria used when choosing a storage facility, these tenants are more likely to have an unpleasant storage experience. They will find themselves sacrificing vital features and amenities, all in the name of 'savings'. But the added 'cost' will come in the form of inconvenience, hassles and frustration.

San Antonio Women of Rock Part 2!
For those who've been listening, thanks a ton and welcome back. For those who are joining us for the first time, welcome to the podcast where you can enjoy what San Antonio has to offer. We've largely been focused on music, but we also enjoy bringing you art, film, and various forms of entertainment in and around the greater San Antonio area. Take a listen to our back catalogue for tons of interviews and amazing indie music, as well as our San Antonio Women of Rock episode, #31. This is the second part or volume 2 of that episode, but the term "rock" is being used loosely since we've got some country, folk, and indie tunes. Let's dive right in!
Bekah Kelso, ReverbNation's #7 on the Pop/Indie/Soul-Folk Bohemian chart and San Antonio Current's 2013 winner for Best Singer Songwriter and Best Song. She reminds me of the best of KT Tunstall, Poe, and Tracy Bonham. Bekah was amazing at our 210 Toys for Tots charity event and is someone I'm really hoping to work with again soon. Here's the lovely Bekah Kelso with Grey's Not Easy.
Bonnie Lang is ranked #5 on ReverbNation's Americana/Blues/Classic Rock/Texas Music chart, and has really been our token country singer on the podcast. I know her personally and hope to have her on the show soon. She can always be heard at Stone Works, Bobby J's and several other San Antonio locales. Here's Bonnie Lang with Desperate.
As far as the podcast, you might remember Erica Swan as being the founder of Love in Rome from episode #9, but like a rolling stone, she's gone on to start a new project, Ila Minori. Erica has music in her soul and exudes a soothing and intriguing shoe gaze sound, akin to Mazzy Star. Her ability to find musical inspiration everywhere, makes her one of the most prolific songstress' of our city. She also donated her time and performed for the 210 Toys for Tots charity show as well. Here's Ila Minor with Ivory Lounge.
Another 210 Alum, Laura Marie, who also played the 210 Toys for Tots show, is someone you should definitely keep your eye on. She is ranked #1 on ReverbNation's Singer Songwriter/Folk/Pop charts and is always busy working on new music. Here's Laura Marie with Lunatic Moon.
Even though The March Divide is usually vocal led by Jared Putnam, I wanted to showcase the work of fellow bandmate, Laura Wheeler. Although not a permanent member of The March Divide, who is really Jared, Mike Hernandez on drums, and Patrick Reetz on bass, I really enjoy the songs featuring Laura's voice. From Their Music for Film album, here's The March Divide with Pick Me Up.
Finally, I'm proud to introduce Our Divine Romance. Ranked #10 on ReverbNation's Alternative/Singer Songwriter chart, Suzy Martinez heads ODR. Although Suzy is currently out of town attending school, she's released a couple of tracks from a future release, which have left me wanting to hear more. Here's Our Divine Romance with As Winter Stays.
San Antonio Women of Rock = San Antonio Women WHO ROCK!
Track List:
Bekah Kelso -- Grey's Not Easy
Bonnie Lang -- Desperate
Ila Minori -- Ivory Lounge
Laura Marie -- Lunatic Moon

Ride Notes:
Freeways in San Antonio have average traffic speed of ~75-80mph.
Depending on wind, the Honda CB300F and CBR300R hit ~75-80mph (112kmh-128kmh) on 6th gear, full throttle, sitting up straight.
This necessitates to a greater amount of planning for scenarios such as 21:50 .
After slowing down to 70mph and waiting to see if the car would merge into the left lane or not, I opened the throttle fully and tucked in to pass.
The difference in speed is shown. After passing, the sudden speed drop from 82 to 75 is caused by me sitting up straight (increased wind resistance), not by letting off the throttle
The max speed of the CBR300R with moderate wind is ~90mph when tucked in fully.
