Fringe is an American science fiction television series created by J. J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. It premiered on the Fox Broadcasting network on September 9, 2008. The series follows Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), and Walter Bishop (John Noble), members of a Federal Bureau of Investigation "Fringe Division" team based in Boston, Massachusetts under the supervision of Homeland Security. The team uses "fringe" science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate a series of unexplained, often ghastly occurrences, which are related to mysteries surrounding a parallel universe. The series has been described as a hybrid of The X-Files, Altered States and The Twilight Zone.
The series' format combines elements from procedural dramas as well as those found in serials. The series began as a more traditional "mystery of the week" series, and became more serialized in later seasons. A majority of episodes contain a standalone plot, with several episodes also exploring the series' overarching mythology.

This marks the fourth series from Abrams whose resume includes TV hits like Felicity, Alias, and Lost. FRINGE is already generating serious buzz and is said to follow a research scientist named Walter Bishop, his son and a female research scientist who brings them back together.
Insiders are referring to the show as a cross between the X-Files, Altered States and The Twilight Zone. The two-hour pilot episode cost a staggering 10 million dollars to complete, so needless to say audiences should be expecting their money's worth. Not only that, Dawson's Creek Fans have something to look forward to because Joshua Jackson will play the lead role of Peter Bishop, a smart guy with numerous gambling debts.
The 60 minute show has already been picked up for 13 epidsodes and will air on the FOX network Tuesdays at 9pm. The entire pilot episode aired at the recent ComiCon Show in San Diego. If comic Book Fans are any indication of a successful show, well then the cast and creators of FRINGE are onto something really good.

Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different virtue, teenagers have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another - for the rest of their lives. Tris Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow faction-members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret that she is Divergent, which means she doesn't fit into any one group. If anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly peaceful society, this secret might help her save the people she loves... or it might destroy her.

In June 2007, the band performed on the Late Show with David Letterman[9] and were also interviewed by Terry Gross on the NPR radio show Fresh Air. The band appeared at the 2007 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.[10] The EP The Distant Future was released. It was produced by Mickey Petralia and recorded in Los Angeles and New York by Petralia and engineer Matt Shane. The live portions were taken from concerts at Comix comedy club in New York City. On 19 June 2007, Flight of the Conchords appeared as the musical guests on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.[11]

First, checking in with an organizer from the first Earth Day 45 years ago. Improvements since, and new challenges with Dennis Hayes, national coordinator of Earth Day in 1970, now president and CEO of the Bullitt Foundation, which funds environmental organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
Then, it was a dream 45 years ago, but not discarded. In 1989 recycling became law in New York City. And now, brown bins are appearing for compost collection in the city. But reducing, reusing and recycling still has a way to go. To discuss, Eric Goldstein, senior attorney for the urban program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Christine Datz-Romero, executive director of the Lower East Side Ecology Center.
Next, the California drought is in its fourth year and water rationing is implemented for the first time in the state's history. To discuss, Paul Gleick, president and co-founder of the Pacific Institute.
Following that, on water desalination as a fix, and other environmental technologies said to be leading to a greener future, is Marianne Lavelle, climate science writer for the Daily Climate.
More green tech, and green design generally in fields such as architecture, urban planning and fashion, with Jill Fehrenbacher, founder of Inhabitat.com, a leading site on sustainable design.
And finally, the state of the world. The Worldwatch Institute, founded in 1974 does independent research on global issues and each year puts out "The State of the World." The organization's most recent report is titled "Confronting Hidden Threats to Sustainability." To discuss, Michael Renner, researcher at the Worldwatch Institute.
