The Yale Record is the campus humor magazine of Yale University. Founded in 1872, it became the oldest humor magazine in the world when Punch folded in 2002.
The Record began as a weekly newspaper, with its first issue appearing on September 11, 1872. Almost immediately, it became a home to funny writing (often in verse form), and later, when printing technology made it practical, humorous illustrations. The Record thrived immediately, and by the turn of the century had a wide circulation outside of New Haven—at prep schools, other college towns, and even New York City.
As Yale became one of the bellwethers of collegiate taste and fashion (especially for the younger universities looking East), so too The Record became a model—F. Scott Fitzgerald referred to the magazine as one of the harbingers of the new, looser morality of collegians of that time. But it wasn't just laughs The Record was serving up—during the 1920s, The Record ran a popular speakeasy in the basement of its building at 254 York Street (designed by Lorenzo Hamilton and completed in 1928).
Yale University is an American private Ivy League research university in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701 in Saybrook Colony as the Collegiate School, the University is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. The school was renamed Yale College in 1718 in recognition of a gift from Elihu Yale, who was governor of the British East India Company. In 1731, received a further gift of land and slaves from Bishop Berkeley. Established to train Congregationalist ministers in theology and sacred languages, by 1777 the school's curriculum began to incorporate humanities and sciences and in the 19th century gradually incorporated graduate and professional instruction, awarding the first Ph.D. in the United States in 1861 and organizing as a university in 1887.
Yale is organized into fourteen constituent schools: the original undergraduate college, the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and twelve professional schools. While the university is governed by the Yale Corporation, each school's faculty oversees its curriculum and degree programs. In addition to a central campus in downtown New Haven, the University owns athletic facilities in western New Haven, including the Yale Bowl, a campus in West Haven, Connecticut, and forest and nature preserves throughout New England. The university's assets include an endowment valued at $25.6 billion as of September 2015, the second largest of any educational institution in the world.
The seven story Yale Apartments, also known as The Yale, is an important "first generation" residential high-rise, a building type made possible by advances in building structure and technology, and reflects the great growth in real estate development which typified the city in the 1890s. The building is a large-scale example of Romanesque Revival architecture style popularized by the buildings of Henry H. Richardson, and exhibits excellent craftsmanship in both materials and detailing. The Yale Apartments also possesses a rare interior atrium, ringed with galleries and topped by a glass-and-metal skylight.
The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 5, 1998, and later designated a Chicago Landmark on April 9, 2003.
The Yale was originally built as luxury apartments for the Chicago Exposition. In the late 30's/early 40's, the empty building was purchased and the interior gutted and converted to studio, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. One top floor apartment had the addition of a staircase up to a rooftop room referred to as the penthouse.

Yale undergraduates and alumni have a record of service to their country that dates back to the founding of the Republic and continues to this day. Yale College men — and, since 1969, women — have continued to make their mark upon the nation, many of them beginning their service through ROTC, which originated during World War I. This story highlights Yale’s contributions to the American WWI effort.
I intend to drive through the night
And wonder if I'm ever not on your mind.
I wrote a song for you so shout out every line.
Well, I think it's time for me to be all I've wanted to be now.
I think it's time for me to show how much I care.
We couldn't make this town our own (I'm keeping secrets)
So good luck with being on your own.
Watch what you say,
Desperation might just take you to your grave.
Let the record show you brought this on yourself.
I intend to walk through the night
And end up on the wrong side of the tracks to my train of thought.
Well, I think it's time for me to be all I've wanted to be now.
I think it's time for me to show how much I care.
We couldn't make this town our own (I'm keeping secrets)
So good luck with being on your own.
Watch what you say,
Desperation might just take you to your grave.
Let the record show you brought this on yourself
To prove how much I knew you knew better.
You went and you said her name.
To prove that we'll never be the same.
This love story's a bust, I choose my friends.
I'd rather be in love with them.
This love story's a bust I chose my friends.
Watch what you say,
Desperation might just take you to your grave.
Let the record show you brought this on yourself
To prove how much I knew you knew better.
You went and you said her name.
