Cleland, a Democrat, is a disabled US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a recipient of the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for valorous actions in combat, and a former U.S. Senator. He was also Administrator of Veterans Affairs (now a Cabinet-level position). From 2003 to 2007 he served on the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, a presidentially-appointed position. He has served as Secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission since May, 2009.
Since he left office in 2003, no other Democrat from Georgia has served a full term in the United States Senate.
Cleland was born on August 24, 1942 in Atlanta, the son of Juanita Wilda (Kesler) and Joseph Hughie Cleland. He grew up in Lithonia, Georgia, and graduated from Stetson University in the class of 1964, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Cleland was named outstanding senior in high school. He went on to receive a master's degree from Emory University (Georgia).
Elizabeth Ann Warren (née Herring; born June 22, 1949) is an American academic and politician, who is the senior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. She is a member of the Democratic Party, and was previously a Harvard Law School professor specializing in bankruptcy law. A prominent legal scholar, Warren is among the most cited in the field of commercial law. She is an active consumer protection advocate whose scholarship led to the conception and establishment of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Warren has written a number of academic and popular works, and is a frequent subject of media interviews regarding the American economy and personal finance.
Following the 2008 financial crisis, Warren served as chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel created to oversee the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). She later served as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Barack Obama. During the late 2000s, she was recognized by publications such as the National Law Journal and the Time 100 as an increasingly influential public policy figure.
"I don't think the 9/11 Commission should be making deals with our own government." Cleland was originally appointed to serve on the 9/11 Commission but resigned shortly after, having been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Before his resignation, he said that the Bush administration was "stonewalling" and blocking the committee's access to key documents and witnesses. A key figure in the widespread criticism of governmental opacity regarding 9/11, he was quoted as saying in November 2003: "I... cannot look any American in the eye, especially family members of victims, and say the commission had full access. This investigation is now compromised." He called the 9/11 Commission a "national scandal." --- http://www.historycommons.org/co...

http://911debunkers.blogspot.com John-Michael Talboo – Debunking 9/11 Debunkers Radio interview on www.RadioLiberty.com with host, Dr. Stan Monteith February 25, 2009 3:00pm, 1 hour Slight Correction: Max Cleland didn’t resign specifically due to objections over Zelikow, although from looking at press reports, he wasn’t happy about it. When asked about Zelikow by Amy Goodman, Cleland stated it was “not the staff directors fault, it is the White House’s fault, it’s president Bush’s fault.” Seeing as how Zelikow had “deep, lasting ties to several members of both the Bush I and Bush II Administrations,” what is the difference really? Regardless, he did call the investigation a “white wash.” http://www.911truth.org/radio-interview-john-michael-talboo-joins-stan-monteith/ Correction: Th...

Georgia Secretary of State Max Cleland said little about his job but a great deal about the evolving national political landscape when he spoke to the Policy Foundation on September 20, 1995. Cleland serve 1971-1975 in the Georgia Senate, 1977-1981 as Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Jimmy Carter, 1983-1997 as Georgia Secretary of State and 1997-2003 in the United States Senate. Cleland was defeated in his re-election bid. The U.S. Senate was his last elected position.

Hillary Care, the first version of the federal government's attempted takeover of U.S. health care, is also briefly discussed.

DFL candidate for Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton says he can't control attacks by outside PAC groups, but is trying to change the things he can't accept. One of them is attack ads. Dayton said the public is tired of them. The press conference was in response to an attack ad by Minnesota's Republican Party, aired hours after victory was conceded to Dayton. Today he called on all parties to stop personal negative attack ads. He included A Better Minnesota's ad about Tom Emmer's DWIs, saying Emmer's voting record was public but disclosing his previous personal issues "crossed the line." Referencing an attack ad against Georgia U.S. Senator Max Cleland, Dayton said "some people will stoop to anything and stop at nothing" to win, and the only way to stop it would be for voters to say "no."
