Parsi community of
India gather to celebrate Navroze
Festival as their
New Year at Parsi
Anjuman hall in
Delhi.
For about three hundred years after landing at
Sanjan, a town in
Gujarat,
Parsis are said to have lived in peace. By that time their numbers had greatly increased. Sanjan is believed to have been founded by Zoroastrian refugees who sought asylum in Gujarat. Those Zoroastrians, whose descendants are today known as the Parsis. From the time on, the New year Festival or Navroze is still celebrated by the community with much fervour marking the arrival of Parsi community in India.
Parsi community in Delhi on Monday, the18th of August, welcomed a new year and celebrated Navroze, in accordance to the calendar followed by a sect of Zoroastrians. The Delhi Parsi Anjuman on
Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, which houses the only
Fire temple in the city and a dharamshala, was abuzz with preparations for the evening
function.
Delhi Parsi Anjuman celebrated Navroze, with friends and loved ones. About hundreds of guests attended the function.
Minister for
Minority Affairs
Najma Heptulla was the chief guest of the function and Rohinton
Fali Nariman, newly appointed judge to the
Supreme Court was felicitated that evening. A stall selling Parsi products were also displayed for sale during the festival.
