"Im Nin'alu" is a hebrew poem by the 17th century's Yemenite Rabbi Shalom Shabazi, which has later been put to music and was sung by Israeli singer Ofra Haza, among others.
Yemenite Jews have been singing it in various celebrations, mainly weddings. Most of the song is about the angels praising and singing to god.
This is the original version recorded by Ofra, from the album "Yemenite Songs" a.k.a. "Shirey Teyman".
In this album Ofra returned to her roots interpreting traditional Yemeni Jewish songs with lyrics coming from the poetry of Rabbi Shalom Shabazi. The album was recorded with both traditional and modern musical instruments; wooden and metal percussion, Yemenite tin and tambala, strings, brass and woodwind as well as drum machines and synthesizers.
In 1988, a remix of this song became an international hit for Ofra, topping the charts in various countries including the UK, Germany and the US. You can hear it here:

A video I made for my "Health and Fitness" class in which each student could choose any health-related topic they wanted to do a presentation on. Always wanting to show Ofra's music to new people, I chose the subject of AIDS. My concept was to combine the history of AIDS, and the story of Ofra, one of the greatest singers to have ever lived, and reveal how their two paths tragically conjoined. Hopefully it came out as well as I'd hoped!

Ofra (Hebrew: עֹפְרָה) is an Israeli settlement located in the northern West Bank in the jurisdiction of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. It is situated on the main road between Jerusalem and Nablus (route 60), 25 km from Jerusalem and has 3,200 inhabitants (2010).
The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this. Human rights organisation B'Tselem has stated that, on the basis of the conditions established in the Sasson Report, Ofra is also unlawful according to Israeli law. Hundreds of structures in Ofra came under a demolition order from the Civil Administration after the villagers of Ein Yabrud laid a petition at the Israeli High Court of Justice over construction on their private land. B'Tselem says the settlement lacks building permits and a specified area of jurisdiction, and that at least 58 percent of the settlement's built-up area is registered in the Land Registry Office under the names of Palestinians. Ofra residents claim the land was purchased legally from the Palestinians. In September 2011, the Israeli government set up plans to legitimise the settlement retroactively.

Ofra Haza (Hebrew: עפרה חזה, Arabic: عفرة حزة; born Bat-Sheva Ofrah Hazah 19 November 1957 –– 23 February 2000) was an Israeli singer of Yemenite Jewish origin, an actress and international recording artist.
Her voice has been described as mezzo-soprano, of near-flawless tonal quality, capable of lending itself to a variety of musical styles with apparent ease.[citation needed]
Inspired by a love of her Yemenite Jewish culture, the appeal of her musical art quickly spread to a wider Middle Eastern audience, somehow bridging the divide between Israel and the Arab countries. As her career progressed, Haza was able to switch between traditional and more commercial singing styles without jeopardizing her credibility. Her music fused elements of Eastern and Western instrumentation, orchestration and dance-beat. She became successful in Europe and the Americas; during her singing career, she earned many platinum and gold discs.
Haza was born the youngest of nine children, to a Yemenite Jewish family, in the poor Tel Aviv neighborhood of Hatikvah. Her first home was at 39 Boaz Street.

Iggy Pop (born James Newell "Jim" Osterberg, Jr.; April 21, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. Though considered an innovator of punk rock, Pop's music has encompassed a number of styles over the years, including pop, metal, jazz and blues. Pop became known as 'Iggy' in high school, during which time he served as drummer for local blues band The Iguanas. He is vocalist of influential protopunk band The Stooges (Pop and the other surviving members of the group reunited in 2003), having become known, since the late 1960s, for his outrageous and unpredictable stage antics.

Iggy Pop (AKA Iggy Stooge) was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Louella (née Christensen) and James Newell Osterberg, Sr., a former high school English teacher and baseball coach at Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan. Osterberg was raised in a trailer park in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is of Irish and English descent on his father's side, and of Norwegian and Danish ancestry on his mother's. His father was adopted by a Swedish American family and took on their surname (Österberg).

Ofra Haza - Im Nin'alu (Original Version - 1984)
"Im Nin'alu" is a hebrew poem by the 17th century's Yemenite Rabbi Shalom Shabazi, which has later been put to music and was sung by Israeli singer Ofra Haza, among others. Yemenite Jews have been singing it in various celebrations, mainly weddings. Most of the song is about the angels praising and singing to god. This is the original version recorded by Ofra, from the album "Yemenite Songs" a.k.a. "Shirey Teyman". In this album Ofra returned to her roots interpreting traditional Yemeni Jewish songs with lyrics coming from the poetry of Rabbi Shalom Shabazi. The album was recorded with both traditional and modern musical instruments; wooden and metal percussion, Yemenite tin and tambala, strings, brass and woodwind as well as drum machines and synthesizers. A video I made for my "Health and Fitness" class in which each student could choose any health-related topic they wanted to do a presentation on. Always wanting to show Ofra's music to new people, I chose the subject of AIDS. My concept was to combine the history of AIDS, and the story of Ofra, one of the greatest singers to have ever lived, and reveal how their two paths tragically conjoined. Hopefully it came out as well as I'd hoped! -

Always wanting to show Ofra's music to new people, I chose the subject of AIDS. My concept was to combine the history of AIDS, and the story of Ofra, one of the greatest singers to have ever lived, and reveal how their two paths tragically conjoined. Hopefully it came out as well as I'd hoped!

"Jerusalem of Gold" (Hebrew: ירושלים של זהב, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav) is a popular Israeli song written by Naomi Shemer in 1967. The original song described the Jewish people's 2000-year longing to return to Jerusalem; Shemer added a final verse after the Six-Day War to celebrate Jerusalem's unification under Israeli control.
At that time, the Old City was under Jordanian rule; Jews had been barred from entering, and many holy sites had been desecrated. Only three weeks after the song was published, the Six-Day War broke out. The song was the battle cry and morale booster of the Israeli troops. Shemer even sang it for them before the war and festival, making them among the first in the world to hear it. On 7 June, the Israel Defense Forces captured the eastern part of Jerusalem and the Old City from the Jordanians. When Shemer heard the paratroopers singing "Jerusalem of Gold" at the Western Wall, she wrote a final verse, reversing the phrases of lamentation found in the second verse. The line about shofars sounding from the Temple Mount is a reference to an event that actually took place on 7 June.

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
