Travel video about destination Rajasthan in India.
Rajasthan, Land Of Kings and one of the most unique and colourful provinces in northern India on the border with Pakistan. The barren desert landscape was once the home of the Rajputes that ruled over the land for more than a thousand years. Our journey begins in Agra. Situated on the border with Rajasthan this imposing metropolis of the Moguln monarchs is an ideal starting point. The palace city, the Red Fortress, was three generations in construction. A two and a half kilometre long wall with many bastions surrounds a spacious inner courtyard and numerous palace buildings. Although artistic stone masonry decorates a number of red sandstone arcades, most of the buildings are of marble. The ruling monarch and his royal household once held official events in the public audience hall, the seventy metre long, Diwan-I-Am. The city on the Jamuna River is full of life. Hustle and bustle are typical within the crowded streets of the former capital of the Mongul realm. It is like a medieval city with market stalls and tiny workshops, narrow lanes, colourful shops and traditional buildings. The Etimad-Ud-Doulah Mausoleum is a jewel of Mogul architecture. Around ten kilometres north of Agra close to Sikandra is the large tomb of Emperor Akbar who was one of the wisest Mogul monarchs. He ruled over the Indian Empire for almost half a century and was known to be extremely tolerant of religions other than his own. The sleepy desert town of Mandawa captures the unique charm of this extraordinary region like no other. Gravel roads and sandy lanes travel past old houses with romantic inner courtyards. India’s flair and diversity is very much alive here. The Land Of The Maharajas in all its splendour: Rajasthan is a living fairy-tale beneath the desert sky.

Description: Songs and dances are an expression of the Kalbelia community's traditional way of life. Once professional snake handlers, Kalbelia today evoke their former occupation in music and dance that is evolving in new and creative ways. Today, women in flowing black skirts dance and swirl, replicating the movements of a serpent, while men accompany them on the ''khanjari'' percussion instrument and the ''poongi,'' a woodwind instrument traditionally played to capture snakes. The dancers wear traditional tattoo designs, jewellery and garments richly embroidered with small mirrors and silver thread. Kalbelia songs disseminate mythological knowledge through stories, while special traditional dances are performed during Holi, the festival of colours. The songs also demonstrate the poetic acumen of the Kalbelia, who are reputed to compose lyrics spontaneously and improvise songs during performances. Transmitted from generation to generation, the songs and dances form part of an oral tradition for which no texts or training manuals exist. Song and dance are a matter of pride for the Kalbelia community, and a marker of their identity at a time when their traditional travelling lifestyle and role in rural society are diminishing. They demonstrate their community's attempt to revitalize its cultural heritage and adapt it to changing socioeconomic conditions.

Wild Frontiers' Jonny Bealby presents a travel guide to Rajasthan and the north of India.
For Wild Frontiers Rajasthan and the North consists of the north-western states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and the Punjab, with Delhi and Agra thrown in for good measure.
Over half of all first time travellers to India visit Rajasthan and for good reason. With a plethora of magnificent monuments, its vibrant cities and fairy-tale heritage of Rajput palaces -- now converted into some of the most atmospheric hotels anywhere in the world -- Rajasthan is arguably India's most colourful state.
First and foremost there is the Golden Triangle; a natural routing that takes you from Delhi, with its great flight connections, through Agra and the essential Taj Mahal to Jaipur, the states capital and one of the most lively and evocative towns in the whole region. From here you can travel southwest through Pushkar, with its famous camel fair, Jodhpur, the Blue City, and on to Udaipur and the Venice of the East.
Or you could head out on the more remote but every bit as romantic desert routing, heading due west our of Delhi on what was one of the southern branches of the Old Silk Road to take in Bikanir, Nagaur and the most famous of all the desert town, Jailsalmer.
But there's also another way to go, to travel on a slower routing through the Rajasthani countryside, staying at some of the States most romantic rural palaces such as at Ramathra, Bhensrorgarh, Deogarh or Castle Bijaipur -- which is where I am now.
This really is quintessential India; the India of our childhood imagination, a calm quiet land where little of modern India appears, a place that is perfect for walking, cycling, riding or just relaxing.
Further afield there is the very under explored and deeply fascinating state of Gujarat. This is a region of fabulous temples, such as the amazing world heritage site at Palitana -- where I was two years back recceying our new trip to the region.
Gujarat is also home to some extraordinary landscapes and wildlife and some of the most diverse and interesting people in the country. Those of you a that are interested in textiles should make a special effort to come here as they are among the best the country, if not the world, can offer.
And finally another fascinating place to squeeze into this region is Amristsar. Holy city to the Sikhs, it is home to the amazing Golden Temple, the infamous Jahwallah Barg and the peculiar but utterly captivating, closing of the gate ceremony at the border with Pakistan. Which is something that has to be seen to be believed!
As I said at the start, most people coming to India will visit Rajasthan and the North -- and for very good reason. It offers everything the first timer or committed Indophile needs to have an amazing Indian experience.
Wild Frontiers has a number of small group tours to Rajasthan and the North, including our classic Taj, Temples and Tigers, our Desert Forts and Palaces and our more offbeat India in Slow Motion and with our experts in our office in London we can design bespoke travel to the region as well.
So come and see this amazing part of India; it'll stay with you forever.

Travel video about destination Royal Rajasthan in India.
There are many ways by which one can travel across the state of Rajasthan in northern India but the train is probably the most fascinating. This journey explores the history of India’s former maharajahs and mughals and begins in Delhi, India’s great capital city. The streets of Delhi are full of life and even though there is much poverty the city is currently enjoying a degree of cultural and financial prosperity. Many historic landmarks such as the Lal Qila, the Red Fort, are a reminder of the city’s glorious past. Due to its numerous magnificent historic buildings, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is one of the most beautiful and impressive cities in the region. The facade of the city’s most famous landmark, the Palace Of The Winds, is one of the most photographed sights in India. Around forty-two kilometres west of Jaisalmer the Desert National Park helps visitors to experience the natural beauty of the remote Thar Desert. At night the inhabitants of the desert, accompanied by traditional and exotic sounds, display the oriental side of their culture. Traditional music and dance are part of the nocturnal ambience of the desert and create an evocative scene straight out of the One Thousand And One Nights. With around seven hundred thousand inhabitants Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan. The Meherangarh Museum contains an extensive collection of historic objects that once belonged to the rulers of Jodhpur. Agra is the most popular tourist destination in India. Between 1630 and 1653 Shah Jahan built a unique monument here that is one of the most famous buildings in the world, the Taj Mahal, a magnificent example of Mughal architecture that is synonymous with India itself. Historically, culturally and scenically the journey has provided many colourful impressions of Royal Rajasthan, the legendary kingdom of India’s Rajput and Mughal rulers.

India is a subcontinent with a long history, a land of legend, fantasy and reality.A country that extends from the Himalayas in the north to the semi-desert terrain and tropics of the south. A place of incredible contrasts and fascinating splendour. Delhi is the political and administrative capital of India and a melting pot of both culture and religion. A constantly expanding metropolis built on the site of twelve former cities and centre of power for almost a thousand years. Jama Masjid, the Friday Mosque, is one of ancient Delhi’s main landmarks that was bequeathed to the city by the mogul king, Shah Jahan and close to the mosque is the bazaar district of Chandni Chowk, a busy commercial area. The white temples of Ranakpur are the sanctuaries of the Jains and are situated in a picturesque valley to the west of the Aravalli Mountains north of Udaipur. At around the same time that Buddhism was introduced to the area, Jainism also arrived, the religion of the country’s great hero, Mahavira. Rajasthan is the Land Of The Maharajas in all its splendour, a living fairytale beneath the desert sky. Agra was once the imposing metropolis of the mogul monarchy and today the city has lost nothing of its mediaeval atmosphere. Calcutta, or Kolkata, as it has been known since 2001, is the capital of West Bengal and also the second largest city in India. A city of contrasts that could not be more striking. Each morning hundreds of people go to the Howrah Bridge to bathe on the banks of the Hooghly River, a tributary of the sacred River Ganges. In 1853 Bombay had its first railroad and the Indian rail network was soon extended. The Victoria Terminus was built, one of the most impressive train stations in the world. Incredible India, a remarkable country that has always fascinated travellers by the amazing diversity of its people, culture and landscapes.

In this guide to India for beginners, Wild Frontiers founder Jonny Bealby talks about two perfect destinations for the first-time visitor - Rajasthan and Kerala.
Rajasthan, Delhi and the Taj Mahal
Dealing with Rajasthan first, there are very good reasons why over half of all first timers travel here. Firstly it's close to Delhi where there are excellent flight connections and which is itself a fascinating city. A veritable tale of two cities Delhi combines the busy hustle bustle of the dramatic Moghul Old Town -- with its narrow alleys, its markets and mosques - with the sublime New Town, where quiet parks and tree lined avenues are peppered by some of the country's most magnificent architecture. From here you can travel easily, either by car or train, down to Agra where most go to visit the essential and truly amazing Taj Mahal.
And from here, either travelling via the tiger park at Ranthambore -- which does offer one of the best chances in the world to see a tiger in the wild -- making up the third stop in the triangle, there's the quintessential Rajput town of Jaipur with its bustling bazaar, its famous palace of the winds and the nearby Amber Fort. And that in itself makes a 7 to 10 day holiday.
But if you have a bit more time and want to scratch a little deeper into what is arguable India's most colourful state, from here there are a number of other routings that can take you to some of the Rajasthan's more wonderful offbeat converted Rajput palace hotels. Right now I'm at just such a place, called Castle Bijaipur, from which you can ride the Marwari Horses, go for bicycling rides or just enjoy a bit of relaxation by the pool. There are many such properties in this part of India which you can mix up with other famous towns like Pushkar, Bundi or Jodhpur.
And a great place to finish your trip to Rajasthan is the lake city of Udaipur. Sitting on the banks of the beautiful Lake Picola, Udaipur is a stunning place, packed with impressive palaces, temples and shops; it's easy to navigate and walk around and is often referred to as the Venice of the East. Not only is this one of my favourite towns in India it also has very convenient flight connections back to London, meaning you can spend your last night here -- having dinner at one of the wonderful rooftop restaurant -- and bounce through Delhi without being forced to spend an extra night there.
VTC: Rajasthan is India's most colourful state, it has most of the country's must see attractions, and some of her best hotels.
If you like to travel in a small group our Taj, Temples and Tigers would tick all these boxes as would our India in Slow Motion if you like your travels a bit more off the beaten track; And if you like to travel privately give us a call and one of our expert travel planners will be happy to help design a trip especially for you.
Kerala and the South
However, if something else, perhaps a little less frenetic appeals, then why not head south to the beautiful state of Kerala, which is where I am now.
Kerala is a stunning state situated at the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent and if Rajasthan and the north represents and great place for travel, Kerala, with its beautiful beaches, its temple culture and its meandering backwater cruises, offers the chance to truly relax and enjoy a more traditional holiday.
A great routing here is to fly in to Bangalore, drive down through Mysore -- with its colourful market and immense palace -- to the beach. There are a number of fabulous properties dotted up and down the coast, and in my option none is more special that Neeleshwar Hermitage. Here you can relax, walk along the beach, enjoy truly delicious cuisine and take a backwater cruise.
Using these old converted rice barges to float through the tranquil back water canals is a quintessential part of a trip to the south. And from here you can continue down the coast to another of my favourite towns, Cochin, a place that hasn't changed much from when my mother lived here as a small girl. This route makes for a perfect 10 day holiday, but if you have a bit more time and want to turn your holiday into more of a travelling experience, you can head up to the hill stations of Ooti and Munnar and on into temple filled Tamil Nadu.
Rajasthan and Kerala are the ideal locations for the inquisitive traveller coming to India for the first time. We have a number of small group departures for those that don't wish to travel alone, and a team of experts back in London to help those of you looking for a tailored experience ready to help you create your ideal trip.

Rajasthan Travel Video Diaries (day 1) - Jodhpur. It is 2nd largest city in the state of Rajasthan India. City has got lots to offer you from historic forts to traditional clothes, turban and mouth licking spicy Indian foods. This is first day of my 3 Rajasthan trip which I did in march of 2015. It was an amazing trip. In this first day of travel video, you will see our journey from New Delhi to Jodhpur and Mehrangarh fort, streets of old jodhpur, different style of famous Rajasthani turbans. clock tower of Jodhpur etc.We had only one day to explore jodhpur, so we tried maximum things to cover up, but indeed there are a lot of things to travel and explore based on your test.
Jodhpur is known as the "Sun City" for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys through out the year.Sometime it is also called "Blue City" due to the vivid blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur was founded in1459 byRao Jodha of Mandore. People here speak Hindi and Marwardi. Jodhpur is very famous for its unique culture, cuisines , dresses , festivals and popularly known as city of warriors.

Forts, Royal palaces, traditional shopping and local food in the Pink city.
Best time:
Oct - Mar
Other Information:
Points of interest in Jaipur: Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Anokhi museum, Birla mandir, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh Fort
As a city with long and rich history, Jaipur is one of the most popular tourist attractions in India. Jaipur is also known as the pink city because of the pink walls that it has. Jaipur is in Rajasthan, India, known for its majestic fort and palaces. As the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur reflects its local culture perfectly. Now let us go around Jaipur and see some of its major attractions.
City Palace: Here is the historic City Palace, a great example of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. You see a lot of arches over here, and you can also see this elephant, which is a symbol of power and strength, and was used in ancient times by the king. As is common in palaces in this area, most of the structures are made from stone. There are two silver jars in this palace, which hold the Guinness World Record for being the largest silver objects in the world. Inside the palace, there is also a museum which contains the artifacts from local culture and military.
Jantar Mantar: is an interesting structure, and was used for astronomy studies in the ancient times. There is a similar ones in Delhi as well.
Hawa Mahal: the most photographed building in Jaipur—"hawa" means "wind," and "mahal" means "palace." From outside, you can see only a part of this building, but you can also go inside. For the best view, come early in the morning, when it looks the most beautiful in shining sunlight. It was built for the royal women, who were not allowed to go out, and so they could watch from these sandstone windows, or "Jharokhas," as they call it, the street life of Jaipur. The fort was used as the political center at that time.
Birla Mandir: is another famous landmark in Jaipur. As you can see behind me, it is vast, intricate, and beautiful. The best time to come here is in the night, when it is nicely lit up.
For shopping, Jaipur is world-famous for its gems, blue pottery, and its handicraft. You can also find yourself traditional footwear.
The food scene in Jaipur is pretty good, and there are plenty of options if you want some Rajasthan delicacies. This is Subhashish Bharuka showing you Jaipur.

When you think India, if you think spicy food, snake charmers, dodging cows, the Taj Mahal, and total chaos- you’re thinking about Northern India. It's an adventure waiting to happen, and will leave you wondering why it only accounts for 1% of world tourism.
Join Ricky Moreno as he explores Delhi, Rajasthan, Agra, Rishikesh, and Varanasi.
Welcome to Delhi. Say goodbye to your personal space. It’s crowded, it’s overwhelming, and definitely exhausting. One day here can feel like an entire week. The only way you’ll have any fun is to just put down the Purell and join the party.
Instead of going straight to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, first I head west to hang with some locals in Rajasthan. Here, the people are welcoming, the desert is sprawling, and the camels command the streets. And it turns out that the cows aren’t the only things Hindus hold sacred.
Karni Mata Rat Temple. Over 20,000 rats call this Hindu temple home, and Indians come here to pay their respects, as these rats are believed to be the reincarnations of ancestors. Shoes aren’t allowed inside, so plan ahead and bring two pairs of socks, and if you’re brave enough, it’s considered an honor to share a bowl of milk with the rats.
Most travelers who come to Jaisalmer opt for the camel safari across the Thar Desert, leading you to a good spot to view the sun setting over the Pakistani border, which happens to be heavily armed, so always keep your cool.
The food is awesome. It completely blew me away. I honestly don’t know much about Indian food, and half the time I didn’t know what I was ordering, but with the intense spices and pungent flavors, every meal seemed to be better than the next, from high end restaurants to local cafes. TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet usually hit the mark with their recommendations, and asking for whatever the chef recommends almost always rewarded me with a memorable meal.
Get on a bus and head north, and you’ll eventually reach Rishikesh- a city where you won’t find meat on any menu, and is overrun by hippie backpackers, weird yoga people, and unruly monkeys. It’s the gateway to the Himalayas.
Oh my God whatever you do.. don’t feed the monkeys. Rabies is a very serious risk in India, and medical treatment to prevent it is very long, and very painful.
After experiencing my share of incredible extremes here in India, my journey brings me to Varanasi, Hindu’s most holy city on the banks its most holy river, The Ganges. Varanasi is a city that was built on and still thrives on traditions. Traditions that may seem strange and shocking, at first, but spend enough time here and you’ll come to appreciate the power of this place.
For many people, Varanasi is their final resting place. Hindus believe that dying here will release you from the cycle of rebirth. For families that can afford it, elaborate cremation ceremonies are carried out in publi c view along the river, their ashes being released into the water. For the vast majority, however, bodies are weighted with stones and sunk to the bottom. These traditions are in harmony with daily bathing rituals- a ritual that is said to remove sins and purify souls.

Bharatpur is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Located in the Brij region, Bharatpur was once considered to be an impregnable city and was the capital of the Jat kingdom. The city is situated 55 km west of the city of Agra and 35 km from Mathura. It is also the administrative headquarters of Bharatpur District and the headquarters of Bharatpur Division of Rajasthan. The Royal House of Bharatpur traces its history to the eleventh Century AD. Bharatpur has been included as a part of National Capital Region (NCR).
Bharatpur is located at 27.22°N 77.48°E. It has an average elevation of 183 metres (600 feet). Bharatpur is also known as Lohagarh and Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan. It is famous for Keoladeo National Park.
History Bharatpur, Rajasthan
==================
The rulers of Bharatpur were from the Sinsinwar clan of Jat people which is an indo-sythian tribe that migrated in India around 100AD. According to Cunningham and William Cook[disambiguation needed], the city of Gohad was founded in 1505 by the Jats of Bamraulia village, who had been forced to leave Bamraulia by a satrap of Firuz Shah Tughluq. It was a notourious tribe which dug up the tomb of Akbar at Sikandra, where he was buried the Jats then cremenated Akbar in Hindu style. Gohad developed into an important Jat state, and was later captured by the Marathas. The Jat people of Gohad signed a treaty with the British and helped them capture Gwalior and Gohad from the Marathas. The British kept Gwalior and handed control of Gohad to Jat people in 1804.[5] Gohad was handed over to the Marathas under a revised treaty dated 22 November 1805 between the Marathas and the British. As compensation for Gohad, the Jat ruler Rana Kirat Singh was given Dhaulpur, Badi and Rajakheda; Kirat Singh moved to Dhaulpur in December 1805.
In the 10th century, the Yadav people took control of Dholpur, which had earlier been ruled by the Rajputs. Dholpur was taken by Sikandar Lodhi in 1501, who transferred it to a Muslim governor in 1504. In 1527, the Dholpur fort fell to Babur and continued to be ruled by the Mughals until 1707. After the death of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Raja Kalyan Singh Bhadauria obtained possession of Dholpur, and his family retained it until 1761. After that, Dholpur was taken successively by the Jat ruler Maharaja Suraj Mal of Bharatpur; by Mirza Najaf Khan in 1775; by the Scindia ruler of Gwalior in 1782; and finally, by the British East India Company in 1803. It was restored by the British to the Scindias under the Treaty of Sarji Anjangaon, but in consequence of new arrangements, was again occupied by the British. In 1806, Dholpur again came under the Jat rulers, when it was handed over to Kirat Singh of Gohad. Dholpur thus became a princely state, a vassal of the British during the Raj.

Keoladeo National Park
=================
Being a UNESCO's World Heritage Site, the duck-hunting reserve of the Maharajas is one of the major wintering areas for large numbers of aquatic birds from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, China and Siberia. Some 364 species of birds, including the rare Siberian Crane, have been recorded in the park. The name "Keoladeo" is derived from the name of an ancient Hindu temple devoted to Lord Shiva in the sanctuary's central zone while the Hindi term "Ghana" implies dense, thick areas of forest cover. It is mainly famous for siberian crane. It was the only habitat of siberian crane in the world, other than siberia. Now with course of time, this endangered species has stopped reaching the park. The main reasons for this are being cited as lack of conservation measures in India, diversion of water for farmers instead of saving the wetlands as per then Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's orders, hunting during migration in Pakistan and the Afghanistan as well as the war against Taliban in Afghanistan.

This is the beginning of Motorcycle touring movies!
Welcome to the magic land where the arid and desolate beauty of the Great Indian Desert, the Thar Desert, mix with the pervasive chivalric romance of the Rajput warriors. The hospitality of its inhabitants, its luxurious palaces and its magnificent and romantic monuments demonstrating the splendour of the ancient Maharajahs, this Rajasthan motorcycle tour video will really blow you away!
From Jaipur, the pink Capital, with its fabulous sites and bazaars, to Jodhpur, the Blue city, renowned for its impressive fortress and sumptuous palace, passing by the golden town of Jaisalmer, a sparkling jewel in the middle of the desert, be ready to ride through a region immensely rich in colors, cultures and history.

Chittorgarh Fort (Hindi/Rajasthani: चित्तौड दुर्ग Chittorgarh Durg) is the largest fort in India and the grandest in the state of Rajasthan. The fort, plainly known as Chittor, was the capital of Mewar and is today situated several kilometres by road south of Bhilwara. It was ruled initially by Guhilot and later by Sisodias, the Suryavanshi clans of Chattari Rajputs, from 7th century, until it was finally abandoned in 1568 after the siege by Emperor Akbar in 1567. It sprawls majestically over a hill 180 m (590.6 ft) in height spread over an area of 280 ha (691.9 acres) above the plains of the valley drained by the Berach River. The fort precinct with an evocative history is studded with a series of historical palaces, gates, temples and two prominent commemoration towers. These monumental ruins have inspired the imagination of tourists and writers for centuries.[1][2][3]
The fort was sacked three times between 15th and 16th centuries; in 1303 Allauddin Khilji defeated Rana Ratan Singh, in 1535 Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat defeated Bikramjeet Singh and in 1567 Emperor Akbar defeated Maharana Udai Singh II who left the fort and founded Udaipur. Each time the men fought bravely rushing out of the fort walls charging the enemy but lost every time. Following these defeats, Jauhar was committed thrice by more than 13,000 ladies and children of the Rajput heroes who laid their lives in battles at Chittorgarh Fort, first led by Rani Padmini wife of Rana Rattan Singh who was killed in the battle in 1303, and later by Rani Karnavati in 1537 AD.[1][2][4]
Thus, the fort represents the quintessence of tribute to the nationalism, courage, medieval chivalry and sacrifice exhibited by the Mewar rulers of Sisodia and their kinsmen and women and children, between the 7th century and 16th century. The rulers, their soldiers, the women folk of royalty and the commoners considered death as a better option than dishonor in the face of surrender to the foreign invading armies.[1][4]

The shimmering sands and contoured desolation of the Thar desert have cradled the age-old folk tradition of the Langas and Manganiars, the two communities of professional folk musicians from Rajasthan. From songs about daily chores to monsoons to songs of occasions, Rajasthani folk music has picked our tastes for many years. Here too the love song Lavarji and Nimbuda are a thrill. This collection has a combination of all these and gives a good gamut of Rajasthani folk tradition.
