Patagonia is a sparsely populated region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. The region comprises the southern section of the Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes and grasslands east of this southern portion of the Andes. Patagonia has two coasts; a western one towards the Pacific Ocean and an eastern one towards the Atlantic Ocean.
The Colorado and Barrancas rivers, which run from the Andes to the Atlantic, are commonly considered the northern limit of Argentine Patagonia.Tierra del Fuego, and sometimes the Falkland Islands are included as part of Patagonia. Most geographers and historians locate the northern limit of Chilean Patagonia at Reloncaví Estuary,
The name Patagonia comes from the word patagón used by Magellan in 1520 to describe the native people that his expedition thought to be giants. It is now believed that the people he called the Patagons were Tehuelches, who tended to be taller than Europeans of the time.

This short film captures the stunning natural beauty of Chilean Patagonia featuring the mountains of Torres del Paine National Park -- jagged granite ridges and spires capped with shale, snow and glaciers. Using time-lapse photography three days of sunlight, clouds, rain and moonlight are captured to show the majestic beauty of this natural wonder. The images are enhanced by the spiritual music from the album "Shiva Shakti Om" by Angelika (http://www.angelikahealingmusic.com). Making-of the movie "Ritmo Latino" : The story of two alpinists, Bruno Sourzac and Ramiro Calvo, bewitched by the same mountain: Cerro Torre. In the heart of Patagonia, this granite monolith rejects many suitors, even the most gifted ones. Ramiro has produced a funny and touching film of the Franco-Argentinean team making the ascent. While not a tango, the music driving the climbers is a key element in the story. Ramiro talks about how and why he made the film, underlining values dear to Argentineans: friendship, laughter and passion... More infos on : http://www.petzl.com

Long considered impossible, coveted by many and attempted by a few, the Fitz Traverse has fueled the imaginations of climbers in Patagonia for decades. Tracing the iconic skyline of Cerro Fitz Roy and its six satellite peaks, it spans four miles and 13,000 feet across snow and ice-covered rock, with epic route finding and endless rapelling. Seizing their chance during a rare extended weather window, Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold went big. The pair completed the first ascent in a five-day push during February 2014. Travel video about destination Patagonia in Argentina. Patagonia is a land of endless plains, a fantastic world of ice and rock but also a land of powerful winds and distant dreams. Our journey begins in the deepest south of Argentina, at the 'end of the world' within a natural paradise between both sky and earth. In the Tierra Del Fuego region, Ushuaia is known as the Gateway to Antarctica and is a small town that has experienced a great boom in recent years. It is difficult to believe that not so long ago, nothing but the wooden huts of Anglican missionaries stood there and 400 criminals were forced to build a prison. The Tierra Del Fuego National Park was founded in 1960 and is very accessible. The Rio Pipo snakes through the varied landscape and more than 60,000 hectares cover the b...

"Los Colores de Chile", Chile is one hell of a colorful country, from the green of Easter Island, the Yellow of Atacama to the Blue of Patagonia! Easter Island! After 4 years of wanting to visit the island, I've finally made it and wow, was it well worth the effort! As I was traveling down from Atacama desert through Santiago to Patagonia, I'd seen the wonderful port city of Valparaiso, summited Villarrica volcano in Pucon, hiked the famous Torres del Paine trail in Patagonia and ended my Chile trip at the Easter Island. Easter Island was definitely the highlight of the trip as you can see in the video. I rented a quad bike and drove around the island for a few days, enjoying the clear sky, lying on my bike under the clearest Milky Way stars I've ever seen, watching the sunrise behind t...
Argentina, the last country in my 6 months long trip to South America, we have finally come to an end. Argentina is one of the biggest country in South America and it would take more than a month to see them all. This is what a month of traveling looks like in Argentina. Buenos Aires was a great vibrant city! Bariloche is definitely the Switzerland of Argentina! Patagonia? Love everything about it, especially El Chalten and seeing Fitz Roy has always been my life goals. Ushuaia is cold but beautiful. To think that I was so near to Antarctica, and yet only 5000 USD away from going there. Maybe next time! Last but not least Iguazu Falls. There's waterfalls and then there's Iguazu Falls. Damn, this place blows my mind. I thought I have seen enough waterfalls in my life time but Iguazu was s...
In early 2016, I had the opportunity to travel to the southern tip of South America to photograph and film world-class flyfishing in Patagonia. My client was a fishing lodge that provides expert guide services to experienced anglers. Patagonia was easily one the most awe-inspiring and intimidating environments I’ve ever shot in. Things can get serious quite quickly when traveling this deep into these endless, high-altitude mazes of rivers, creeks, lakes, and hidden valleys. Every year, the guides have to re-learn knew every bend, rock, and log in the rivers that might puncture the inflatable pontoon on the jetboats that we traveled in. The best thing about this trip was getting to tap into Patagonian way of life - one of the highlights being delicious Chilean wine and cooking a whole l...
In a remote area of Torres del Paine National Park, the wild Patagonian horses roam the steppe after escaping the gauchos’ domesticity. Patagonia is home to these untamed horses - masters of their surroundings, owned by no one and glimpsed only by those who have learned their language: Patagonia's master trackers. Bonacca tells the story of a few Honduran fly fishing guides from the Bay Island of Guanaja. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch ravaged Guanaja, and the natives were stripped of nearly everything, including almost 95% of their mangrove population which was a vital habitat to their fishery. In Mitch's wake, an already struggling economy found it difficult to rebuild. When now head fishing guide Rankin Jackson was on the mainland working as a rafting guide he met Colorado trout bum Steve Brown and the two quickly shared a bond over fishing. Rankin invited Brown to Guanaja to explore the fishery with him, and it was then that the story unfolded. Jobs were close to none and still are, but Rankin and his brothers looked to their ancestral past as fishermen and quickly learned how to become fly fishing ...

The team has dreamed about making a video but never actually pursued it until now. They decided to follow their dreams and inspirations to capture it and share it with the world. The concept of this film is to empower the viewer to have an adventure of his or her own, outside in the wilderness. We all dream of escape and yearn for the quest of taking the road less traveled.
