This video tape is believed to have been recorded on the afternoon of Friday, November 23, 1984.
The clip opens with two commercials leading into the 4 PM news (one for a new cigarette lighter and another for Kraft Light Mayo).
The KNBC "News4LA" team at 4 PM consisted of John Beard , Kirstie Wilde, Kevin O'Connell (weather), and Fred Roggin (Sports).
John Beard starts the news with reporting on a 5.7 Mammoth Lakes earthquake which occurred earlier in the day. At Mammoth Lakes, correspondent John Marshall calls into the studio with a remote report (satellite trucks were rare at that time). Kirstie Wilde reports on findings from the Cal Tech earthquake lab. Diablo Canyon nuclear plant is noted. Several stories air, including a story reported by Vikki Vargas on an attempted kidnapping and shooting in Riverside County. John Beard discusses the case of Baby Fae (first chimpanzee heart transplant recipient) and a marijuana seizure off Oxnard.
Some holiday shopping stories air starting with Jim Thomas from Torrance's Del Amo Fashion Center.
At 8:30 into the clip, a new TV line called Proton is noted to be entering the market at $800 to $2000 per unit. A wrist TV from Seiko is noted as well as a robot and a doll line. The reporter notes that "fluorescent colors" were hot.
Bob Navarro reports from South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. There are many shots of South Coast Plaza in the midst of the 1984.
A commercial break occurs with a short announcement on the Los Angeles Children's Museum. There is a William Conrad narrated commercial for the Ready-Lite from First Alert.
A Robinson's commercial, a Bob's Big Boy commercial, and a commercial for Collectors Art oil painting and fine art sale.
Kirstie Wilde returns to report on a flooding in Florida including the destruction of the St. Augustine Pier. Juneau, Alaska gets hit with a bad storm.
John Beard goes out to the Magic Kingdom with Kevin O'Connell teasing the lighting of a 60 foot Christmas tree on Main Street U.S.A. O'Connell gives the local weather report. This is particularly interesting given that Disney now owns ABC, including KABC 7. The weather forecast includes some increasing clouds and a front swinging through California with some precipitation. O'Connell gives some promotion for some Christmas themed events at Disneyland.
Harvey Levin gives legal advice for parent and minor children and discusses litigation on slips and falls.
Another commercial break occurs with an announcement for US INS hiring for border control officers. Commercials air for Ross stores, Prince Spaghetti, Scrabble brand world games, and House of Almonds.
Kirstie Wilde reads a report on tooth ID. Max Stollman, Pharmacist, discusses the sexually-transmitted disease chlamydia in the "For Your Health" segment.
Excedrin sponsors the segment. A Polo fragrance at Broadway commercial and a Pulsar watch (also at Broadway) airs. Puerto Rico Tourism airs a 30 second clip.
John Beard returns with an update on the Mammoth Lakes earthquake with Nick in the Newsroom. WIlde then reads a story about a boating issue off of Mexico. A missing plane story airs. Two French military planes collide. A burial for Ben Wilson, a high school basketball player who was shot outside of his school in Chicago. A story on me airs with Cal Campbell covering our experiment to apply Nitinol Heat Engines in a space environment.

A police pursuit that reached speeds of 140 mph on Southern California freeways ended when the driver slammed into two other cars, sending two of the vehicles careening out of control.
California Highway Patrol officers first reported pursuing the car on the northbound 57 Freeway in the Yorba Linda area after the driver allegedly refused to pull over for a traffic violation.
The driver — accompanied by one passenger — then made his way into Los Angeles County, maintaining triple-digit speeds and narrowly dodging other cars as he threaded his way through light Saturday night traffic on the 210, 134 and 405 freeways.
On the southbound 405 Freeway in the Marina del Rey area, the driver apparently attempted to slip in between a car and a pickup truck that were traveling side by side, but collided with both. The pickup truck flew into a retaining wall, the other car spun out and the pursued car slowly rolled to a stop as sparks flew from underneath it.
The driver and passenger came out of the pursued car with their hands up and were taken into custody by CHP officers.
It was not immediately clear what happened to the occupants of the other vehicles in the crash.
Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Culver City Fire Department officials said. It was not immediately clear which of the vehicles the injured were in.

A 15-year-old was put in handcuffs Thursday afternoon after speeding through a South Los Angeles park, tearing up grass and striking signposts, during a police pursuit that ended with a crash.
The erratic chase wound through surface streets as the driver of a silver Nissan Altima blew through red lights, wove in and out of traffic, drove the wrong direction on several streets and sped by a group of schoolchildren.
LA County sheriff's deputies confirmed to NBC4 the driver was a 15-year-old girl.
The teen drove at high speeds through South LA, barely avoiding head-on crashes with at least one other car and nearly striking a semi-truck. She then drove off the road and onto the grass of the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area, a park surrounded by several elementary and high schools.
A group of men playing dominoes in the park said they got up and scrambled for cover.
"She come back over here, hit that curb, went around this tree, spins around, went back around here, spins around in the dirt and then shot that way back by the school again," witness Michael McGee said. "We were just trying to find some coverage just in case she came this way."
The car tore up dirt and grass in the park as it sped through the grounds, eventually going back onto surface streets, only to return to the park and ram signposts as deputies followed behind.
"She left and went out, and then we said, 'Let's get back to dominoes," Tony Tate said. "Next thing you know, 'Wait! Hey, hey.' We all went back behind the tree."
The driver then appeared to stop outside a schoolyard several times before flying through school zones and then winding through a strip mall parking lot.
"She was driving, man, whoever was driving that car can handle that car," witness Otis McKinney said.
The girl then drove around a bend at such a high rate of speed that she appeared to lose control of the car and veered off to the side of the road, nearly hitting an oncoming car and swerving toward to curb.
The teen drove up the curb and onto the sidewalk, and slid against what appeared to be a fence before the car stopped in the middle of the road near Imperial Highway and Central Avenue.
Deputies swarmed the Nissan as the girl stuck her hands out of the window, eventually getting out and walking toward them with her hands behind her head.
Aerial video showed a slew of patrol cars filling both sides of the street as deputies took her into custody.
The erratic chase was the Los Angeles area's third major reported police pursuit of the day.

A motorcyclist who taunted officers with high-speed antics during an hourlong pursuit through two Southern California counties was arrested without a struggle.
The motorcyclist was being chased for reckless driving and came into Los Angeles County about 6 p.m., said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.
The man led police on a pursuit, reaching speeds of over 100 mph, and running several red lights. At one point, he climbed onto the seat and took his hands off in a high-speed stunt.
At another point, he parked in a cul-de-sac and took his helmet to put in his ear buds.
He was cornered by an officer, but rode right past him, almost clipping the CHP car's open door. He was followed by two CHP motorcycle officers and a helicopter above.
He also appeared to slow down and talk to two officers on motorcycles who were riding next to him.
He surrendered and was arrested after he pulled into a gas station at Cucamonga and San Bernardino streets in Ontario. Onlookers cheered him.
As he was being taken away by CHP officers, he told news crews that "I just want to say I love my family and my two baby girls.''
His Honda motorcycle, a little the worse for wear, was taken away by a tow truck.
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police chased a “reckless” motorcycle rider who, during the pursuit, showed off daredevil-type skills, authorities said.
The chase began in Highland but picked up in earnest in Pomona.
The suspect, in a white helmet, reportedly had been weaving and bobbing in traffic.
Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said the suspect often exceeded 100 mph.
The suspect was being followed by a helicopter overhead and at least two CHP officers chasing him on motorcycles. At least four motorcycle officers joined in the chase.
Mundel said the driver could be seen looking over his shoulder during the pursuit and not focusing on the road, making his actions even more dangerous.
Officers rolled up on the suspect as he drove into a dead-end street. He drove past police as they attempted to get out of their vehicle.
During the pursuit, the motorcyclist rode standing up on his seat, daredevil-style. “He’s doing a lot of showboating,” said Mundel.
At other junctures, he appeared to be making obscene gestures toward officers.
The cyclist, “out of the blue,” said Mundel, just gave up. He rode into a gas station in Ontario and stopped. It was the second time he had run into a gas station during the pursuit.
At least four officers were shown taking the suspect into custody.
Late Wednesday, the suspect was identified as Phillip Resendez, 22. The suspect was booked into the West Valley Detention Center by San Bernadino and charged with failure to yield and driving on the wrong side of the road during a pursuit.

The driver of a vehicle with a message on its rear window that read "We Support Our Local Police Dept" drove the wrong way in traffic and slammed into shopping carts in a parking lot before surrendering to authorities in Anaheim.
Police pursued the stolen car on Orange County freeways and city streets Friday afternoon near Disneyland, officials said. The pursuit began in Buena Park, said the California Highway Patrol.
The Toyota Corolla was rammed by a police car in a shopping center's parking lot, but evaded immediate capture. The vehicle slammed through shopping carts before exiting back onto the street.
After racing through red traffic lights and making a U-turn around a street median, the driver and passengers surrendered in the middle of a street just after 1 p.m.
