Mark Atkins is a descendant from the Yamitjti people of Western Australian and Irish-Australian heritage. Mark is a highly accomplished professional didgeridoo player, and he frequently plays all over the world. However, Mark is also a mean guitar player, storyteller and harmonica player, which he can all perform together! Here Mark tells his story of an encounter he had with a Bush Man. This clip was recorded in the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall, and Mark was accompanied by Rory McDougall and Aaron Choulai, who improvised along. Details of how to contact Mark to play at your event will follow shortly... www.aboriginalarts.co.uk
Mark Atkins travelled to the UK to perform Murundak with the Black Arm Band at the Royal Festival Hall, London. The Black Arm Band performs, promotes and celebrates contemporary Australian Indigenous music as a symbol of resilience and hope in the spirit and action of reconciliation. The Black Arm Band came together in 2006 to perform Murundak ('alive' - Woiwurrung), a powerful event celebrating music as an instrument of identity, resistance and freedom. The Black Arm Band is powerful yet touching, this show was set against a backdrop of lyrical and sometimes provocative film and photographic images, the UK premiere proved to be a euphoric landmark. On the Saturday which followed, Mark led a wonderful didgeridoo workshop in the gallery of Aboriginal Arts Ltd. Mark showed a vari...
