Pendulum
A pendulum is a weight suspended from a pivot so that it can swing freely. When a pendulum is displaced sideways from its resting equilibrium position, it is subject to a restoring force due to gravity that will accelerate it back toward the equilibrium position. When released, the restoring force combined with the pendulum's mass causes it to oscillate about the equilibrium position, swinging bac

Intermolecular forces are forces of attraction or repulsion which act between neighboring particles (atoms, molecules or ions). They are weak compared to the intramolecular forces, the forces which keep a molecule together. The concepts of angle and radius were already used by ancient peoples of the 1st millennium BCE. The Greek astronomer and astrologer Hipparchus (190--120 BCE) created a table of chord functions giving the length of the chord for each angle, and there are references to his using polar coordinates in establishing stellar positions.[2] In On Spirals, Archimedes describes the Archimedean spiral, a function whose radius depends on the angle. The Greek work, however, did not extend to a full coordinate system.
From the 8th century CE onward, astronomers developed methods for approximating and calculating the direction to Makkah (qibla)—and its distance—from any location on the Earth.[3] From the 9th century onward they were using spherical trigonometry and map projection methods to determine these quantities accurately. The calculation is essentially the conversion of the equatorial polar coordinates of Mecca (i.e. its longitude and latitude) to its polar coordinates (i.e. its qibla and distance) relative to a system whose reference meridian is the great circle through the given location and the Earth's poles, and whose polar axis is the line through the location and its antipodal point.[4]
There are various accounts of the introduction of polar coordinates as part of a formal coordinate system. The full history of the subject is described in Harvard professor Julian Lowell Coolidge's Origin of Polar Coordinates.[5] Grégoire de Saint-Vincent and Bonaventura Cavalieri independently introduced the concepts in the mid-seventeenth century. Saint-Vincent wrote about them privately in 1625 and published his work in 1647, while Cavalieri published his in 1635 with a corrected version appearing in 1653. Cavalieri first used polar coordinates to solve a problem relating to the area within an Archimedean spiral. Blaise Pascal subsequently used polar coordinates to calculate the length of parabolic arcs.
In Method of Fluxions (written 1671, published 1736), Sir Isaac Newton examined the transformations between polar coordinates, which he referred to as the "Seventh Manner; For Spirals", and nine other coordinate systems.[6] In the journal Acta Eruditorum (1691), Jacob Bernoulli used a system with a point on a line, called the pole and polar axis respectively. Coordinates were specified by the distance from the pole and the angle from the polar axis. Bernoulli's work extended to finding the radius of curvature of curves expressed in these coordinates.
The actual term polar coordinates has been attributed to Gregorio Fontana and was used by 18th-century Italian writers. The term appeared in English in George Peacock's 1816 translation of Lacroix's Differential and Integral Calculus.[7][8] Alexis Clairaut was the first to think of polar coordinates in three dimensions, and Leonhard Euler was the first to actually develop them.[5] Source- wikipedia

Halley's Comet or Comet Halley, officially designated 1P/Halley, is the best-known of the short-period comets and is visible from Earth every 75--76 years
Halley is the only short-period comet that is clearly visible to the naked eye from Earth, and thus the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime. Other naked-eye comets may be brighter and more spectacular, but will appear only once in thousands of years.
Halley's returns to the inner Solar System have been observed and recorded by astronomers since at least 240 BCE. Clear records of the comet's appearances were made by Chinese, Babylonian, and medieval European chroniclers, but were not recognized as reappearances of the same object at the time.
The comet's periodicity was first determined in 1705 by English astronomer Edmond Halley, after whom it is now named. Halley's Comet last appeared in the inner Solar System in 1986 and will next appear in mid-2061.
During its 1986 apparition, Halley became the first comet to be observed in detail by spacecraft, providing the first observational data on the structure of a comet nucleus and the mechanism of coma and tail formation.
These observations supported a number of longstanding hypotheses about comet construction, particularly Fred Whipple's "dirty snowball" model, which correctly predicted that Halley would be composed of a mixture of volatile ices -- such as water, carbon dioxide and ammonia -- and dust.
The missions also provided data which substantially reformed and reconfigured these ideas; for instance it is now understood that Halley's surface is largely composed of dusty, non-volatile materials, and that only a small portion of it is icy.
Halley was the first comet to be recognized as periodic. Until the Renaissance, the philosophical consensus on the nature of comets, promoted by Aristotle, was that they were disturbances in the Earth's atmosphere. This idea was disproved in 1577 by Tycho Brahe, who used parallax measurements to show that comets must lie beyond the Moon. Many were still unconvinced that comets actually orbited the Sun, and assumed they must instead follow straight paths through the Solar System.
In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton published his Principia, in which he outlined his laws of gravity and motion. His work on comets was decidedly incomplete. Although he had suspected that two comets that had appeared in succession in 1680 and 1681 were the same comet before and after passing behind the Sun (he was later found to be correct; see Newton's Comet), he was unable to completely reconcile comets into his model.
Ultimately, it was Newton's friend, editor and publisher, Edmond Halley, who, in his 1705 Synopsis of the Astronomy of Comets, used Newton's new laws to calculate the gravitational effects of Jupiter and Saturn on cometary orbits.
This calculation enabled him, after examining historical records, to determine that the orbital elements of a second comet which had appeared in 1682 were nearly the same as those of two comets which had appeared in 1531 (observed by Petrus Apianus) and 1607 (observed by Johannes Kepler).[ Halley thus concluded that all three comets were in fact the same object returning every 76 years, a period that has since been amended to every 75--76 years. After a rough estimate of the perturbations the comet would sustain from the gravitational attraction of the planets, he predicted its return for 1758.
Halley's prediction of the comet's return proved to be correct, although it was not seen until 25 December 1758, by Johann Georg Palitzsch, a German farmer and amateur astronomer. It did not pass through its perihelion until 13 March 1759, the attraction of Jupiter and Saturn having caused a retardation of 618 days.
This effect was computed prior to its return (with a one-month error to 13 April) by a team of three French mathematicians, Alexis Clairaut, Joseph Lalande, and Nicole-Reine Lepaute. Halley himself did not live to see the comet return, as he died in 1742.
The confirmation of the comet's return was the first time anything other than planets had been shown to orbit the Sun. It was also one of the earliest successful tests of Newtonian physics, and a clear demonstration of its explanatory power. The comet was first named in his honour by French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in 1759.
The possibility has been raised that 1st-century Jewish astronomers had already recognized Halley's Comet as periodic. This theory notes a passage in the Talmud which refers to "a star which appears once in seventy years that makes the captains of the ships err."

In physics, a force is any influence that causes a free body to undergo a change in speed, a change in direction, or a change in shape. Force can also be described by intuitive concepts such as a push or pull that can cause an object with mass to change its velocity (which includes to begin moving from a state of rest), i.e., to accelerate, or which can cause a flexible object to deform. A force has both magnitude and direction, making it a vector quantity. Newton's second law, F=ma, can be formulated to state that an object with a constant mass will accelerate in proportion to the net force acting upon and in inverse proportion to its mass, an approximation which breaks down near the speed of light. Newton's original formulation is exact, and does not break down: this version states that the net force acting upon an object is equal to the rate at which its momentum changes.

Lidia Kozubek performs Wojciech Żywny's Polonaise in C major. This recording was issued sometime in the early 1970s on the Muza label (Polskie Nagrania), SXL 0559.
Artystka uczestniczyła też w kilku międzynarodowych festiwalach muzycznych (m.in. we Włoszech w I Międzynarodowym Festiwalu im. (Uniwersytet Muzyczny Fryderyka Chopina)

A pendulum is a weight suspended from a pivot so that it can swing freely. When a pendulum is displaced sideways from its resting equilibrium position, it is subject to a restoring force due to gravity that will accelerate it back toward the equilibrium position. When released, the restoring force combined with the pendulum's mass causes it to oscillate about the equilibrium position, swinging back and forth. The time for one complete cycle, a left swing and a right swing, is called the period. The period depends on the length of the pendulum, and also to a slight degree on the amplitude, the width of the pendulum's swing.
From its discovery in around 1602 by Galileo Galilei, the regular motion of pendulums was used for timekeeping, and was the world's most accurate timekeeping technology until the 1930s. Pendulums are used to regulate pendulum clocks, and are used in scientific instruments such as accelerometers and seismometers. Historically they were used as gravimeters to measure the acceleration of gravity in geophysical surveys, and even as a standard of length. The word 'pendulum' is new Latin, from the Latin pendulus, meaning 'hanging'.

In this video:
In grade school you probably learned Newton’s apple story around the time you learned that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree , that people in Columbus’ time thought that the world was flat, or that the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in America and invited the Native Americans to join them. Since literally none of the latter three stories here are true, you probably have your doubts about whether Newton actually sat under an apple tree and had something of a “eureka” moment concerning gravity

Why Superheroes Wear Their Underwear On The Outside

In this video:
In grade school you probably learned Newton’s apple story around the time you learned that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree , that people in Columbus’ time thought that the world was flat, or that the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in America and invited the Native Americans to join them. Since literally none of the latter three stories here are true, you probably have your doubts about whether Newton actually sat under an apple tree and had something of a “eureka” moment concerning gravity

Intermolecular forces are forces of attraction or repulsion which act between neighboring particles (atoms, molecules or ions). They are weak compared to the intramolecular forces, the forces which keep a molecule together. For example, the covalent bond present within HCl molecules is much stronger than the forces present between the neighboring molecules, which exist when the molecules are sufficiently close to each other.
A covalent bond can occur between two similar atoms such as in H2, N2, O2, Cl2 etc. It can also occur between two unlike atoms such as HCl, H2O, NH3, HCN, CO2 etc.

Did my best with the translation, please feel free to correct any mistakes. When Sanchez was 12-years-old, he couldn’t afford his own boots and had to borrow a friend’s for a tournament in Chile. These days, Alexis Sanchez’s income doesn’t just come from Arsenal; he has a number of sponsorship deals which supplement his Gunners contract, including a boot deal with Nike, who pays him handsomely to wear their Nike Mercurial Superfly kicks. How times change.
During an interview with beIN Sports, Alexis Sanchez talks about his early life, when he couldn't afford a pair of football boots and his mother had to request for a pair from the mayor of the town of Arauco, where at the time he was the most important player of the local football team. He also talks about his teammates and adapting to life in London with Arsenal Football Club.

Emma Watson Dishes on How She Prepared for The Bling Ring!
How do you prepare for a role where your character has to lie and steal HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars worth of goodies from celebrities?
Well, Bling Ring star Emma Watson just went straight to the source.
Her role as Nicki in the upcoming Sofia Coppola flick is based on real-life criminal Alexis Neiers, who was infamously convicted of stealing from some of the top names in Hollywood, like Paris Hilton, Megan Fox, and Rachel Bilson.
Emma explains in a new interview with Rookie Magazine that she got familiar with Alexis's short-lived E! reality show to get inspired.
She said, "I watched Pretty Wild so many times to try and get her into my brain, though. It gave me anxiety. How do you watch it?"
Also, Emma made sure to point out that even though Nicki is based on Alexis, it's not a total impersonation.
She said, "To be fair to Alexis, [my character] is like three steps removed from who she might be in real life. A lot of the material in the movie was based on an article, which was based on a reality show, which we all know isn't real life."
Now-- Alexis hasn't been shy to diss the movie, claiming it's "trashy and inaccurate" but one thing is for sure—she's certainly an Emma Watson fan.
Alexis told The Sun, "I'm really happy Emma is playing me. I think she is a very talented actress and this will be a big change for her as I am definitely nothing like Hermione Granger. So it will be interesting."
If you're planning on seeing The Bling Ring, make sure you check out my exclusive interview with the cast, where they dished on what you can expect from this edgy drama.

"Remember Sunday" Synopsis
A lonely, down-on-her-luck waitress meets a handsome, quirky jewelry store clerk and thinks that maybe, finally, she's met Mr. Right. The more Molly (Alexis Bledel) gets to know Gus (Zachary Levi), the more she's intrigued by him. But she's also mystified. Gus is absent-minded, preoccupied. Is he hiding something? The short answer is: yes. He's reluctant to share with her that since suffering a brain aneurysm, he's totally lost his short-term memory. Every day is a brand new day, his life starts anew. Every day he sees Molly he's not able to connect the dots and recognize just how, exactly, she fits into his life. But there's something about this beautiful, sensitive, funny woman that makes Gus fall in love with her all over again, day after day.
