2003-04 Detroit Pistons Championship Season Part 1/4
Unlike the 1989 championship run, this group was heavy underdogs. This Pistons team was made of no-name players who relied on defense, passing, and team play to be successful. Unlike the 1989 championship run, this group was heavy underdogs. This Pistons team was made of no-name players who relied on defense, passing, and team play to be successful. They faced a Lakers team that started four future Hall-of-Famers and was led by a 10-time NBA Champion head coach in Phil Jackson. There was no one on the planet, who believed that the Pistons could win this series. That is, except the ones who mattered, the Pistons.
The series began with a 87-75 Pistons win in Los Angeles. They won this game just as they had all season, with contributions from every player on the roster. The Lakers on the other hand got just 16 points from any player not named Kobe or Shaq. The Lakers faced a must-win situation in Game Two. With the 2-3-2 NBA Finals format, they could not afford to go to Detroit facing a 2-0 deficit. Game Two seemed to be in hand with the Pistons leading by three in the finals seconds. Then, with 2.1 seconds on the clock, Kobe Bryant hit a game-tying three pointer to send the game into overtime. The Lakers dominated the extra frame, ultimately winning 99-91. As the series moved to Detroit, the Pistons received an incredible lift from the deafening sound of fans banging 44,000 thundersticks at The Palace. The Pistons dominated the Lakers, winning Game Three 88-68.
As Game Four began, people began to realize that maybe a 13-man team can defeat four guys; perhaps previous championship experience doesn't mean much. Players and fans could see the Lakers starting to break, each player believing that he, individually, could win the game. The Pistons had exposed the Lakers in winning the game 88-80. The Lakers had no answer for Chauncey Billups. They were fighting both in the media and on the court. A win in Game Five would have given the Pistons not only their third championship in franchise history, but given the fans their first opportunity to witness a championship celebration at The Palace, as both previous rings were clinched on the road. By halftime, everyone knew the celebration was just a matter of time. Leading 55-45 at the break, the Pistons had essentially wrestled the Lakers into submission. When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard said 100-87, but the result was so much bigger.
Chauncey Billups became the first non-All-Star to win NBA Finals MVP since 1989 when Joe Dumars accomplished the feat. The 1990 Bad Boys were the first team to win all three road games in the 2-3-2 format. The 2004 Pistons were the first team to win all three games at home. Larry Brown became the first coach to win both an NCAA and an NBA Championship.
Joe Dumars had created a team in his image, a team that won with defense, rebounding and timely shooting. As players, the Bad Boys seemed to always be trying to prove that toughness, defense, and teamwork was the way to win championships. This team was no different. Each player had his own story of trials and tribulations to get to this point. Dumars had assembled a team of player who wanted to prove that they belonged. Not only did they belong, the believed that they could be champions. These guys played the "Pistons Way" just as the Bad Boys had years earlier.

I filmed this straight off the TV the other day (not from VHS). This NBA Entertainment feature, hosted by Marc Fein, is produced this season, and takes a look back at the 2003-2004 NBA season. There's a segment on KG and Timberwolves. Your boy Kevin Garnett is that year's MVP, averaging an astonishing 24.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.2 blocks, 1.5 steals, and leading the Timberwolves to the top seed (58-24) in the brutal Western Conference.
Note that while this feature is made this year, the interviews with KG are obviously from the 2003-2004 season.
On another note, I don't really want to make a habit of using my camera this way (recording straight off the TV, that is)... The colors are not as vibrant, and the transitions from dark to bright takes a second. But hey, the quality ain't bad, and I can do it in HD.
I've got some old VHS stuff on the way.

Sole Purpose of “RunThroughTheTape” Channel”
The Main/Only Reason I made this Channel:
At the start of the 2013-2014 I wanted to watch Full episodes of Inside the NBA that I missed and came to find out the Official “Inside The NBA on TNT “ Full Episode website was taken down or discontinued. On top of ITNBA’s already late airing, the ONLY other way to watch ITNBA are through reruns that air…
-The morning after (Friday) at 2am-4am (CT) and 6am-10am (CT) on NBATV, an American Cable Specialty Channel, not the original broadcast channel TNT, which is a American Cable Standard Channel.
-The majority of people in the United States don’t have Specialty Channels (b/c it cost more $$$) and on top of that, these rerun times are very inconvenient to almost all individuals with any type of responsibility (School, Work, etc.) especially seeing as they re-air early Friday mornings, a weekday.
-This show does air very late and most people have jobs, school, etc. and aren’t able to stay up and watch the original airing as well.
-This program also has fans outside the US, and they can’t enjoy the show anymore either b/c the Full Episode Website has been taken down.
-With that being said, as discussed by word of mouth and on many forums, blogs, comments, etc. the absence of the Full Episode Website put all of the shows fans at a great disadvantage and were at risk of not enjoying this Popular Emmy awarded show of 15+ years at all.
So I thought it would do all fans of the NBA, Turner Sports as well as Shaq, EJ, Kenny and Charles a great service as to making this show available in a platform more fans could enjoy at NO PROFIT TO MYSELF and ALL BENEFIT TO THE SHOW AND THE FANS.

The video begins as a flashback to a December basketball game in 1997 between the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. NBA superstar Kobe Bryant is asked on how he feels about being compared to Michael Jordan. Kobe responds by saying "it's an honor to be compared to Michael Jordan".
Then there's some great footage of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant going at it head to head. Michael makes his vintage jump shot and Kobe runs the lane on the fast break and finished with the fancy slam dunk. Michael Jordan goes off for 36 points while Kobe Bryant is sizzling with 33 points in this classic match up. Kobe sends the message to the NBA that he is the future.
In an interview Kobe Bryant admits that everything he does well in his basketball career is compared to what Michael Jordan has done. He admits the comparison is a great honor and claims that Jordan's helped him out and his given him great advice throughout his career that he still uses to this day.
Michael Jordan then admits in an interview that he loves Kobe Bryant's game and reveals that he's Kobe's "cursed" like him in that he can't do the same things on the basketball court that his younger self could and that success isn't as easy as it used to be.
Kobe Bryant is then shown doing his work out in the gym and the fiery determination in his nature cannot be denied. Michael Jordan then admits that the next Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant is "going to happen" and that the NBA community should just sit, watch and enjoy it.
Lastly, we have an interview with Kobe Bryant where Kobe talks about passing Michael Jordan on the all-time NBA scoring list. Kobe Bryant at this time is only 9 points away from passing MJ on the scoring list. Bryant says that it's eventually going to happen and it's a great accomplishment, but he doesn't think too much about it.

The 2004 NBA draft was held on June 24, 2004, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, and was broadcast live on ESPN at 7:00 pm (EDT). In this draft, National Basketball Association teams took turns selecting amateur college basketball players and other first-time eligible players. The NBA announced that 56 college and high school players and 38 international players had filed as early-entry candidates for the 2004 draft. On May 26, the NBA draft lottery was conducted for the teams that did not make the NBA Playoffs in the 2003–04 NBA season. The Orlando Magic, who had a 25 percent chance of obtaining the first selection, won the lottery, while the Los Angeles Clippers and the Chicago Bulls were second and third respectively. As an expansion team, the Charlotte Bobcats had been assigned the fourth selection in the draft and did not participate in the lottery. The Minnesota Timberwolves forfeited their first-round pick due to salary cap violations.
After the completion of the regular season, Emeka Okafor, the Bobcats' historical first rookie draft pick, was named Rookie of the Year, while Ben Gordon earned the Sixth Man Award, becoming the first rookie in NBA history to do so.

Rookies are usually the players that people don't like to watch the most, because they are uninteresting and lack of experience. However, there are some rookies that entertained and get everyone's attention from all around the world right at their debut. This video will feature the top 10 NBA rookies of all time, plus two honorable mentions, included some of their highlights or top plays from their rookie season (for those players that I can't find any rookie highlights, I included their highlights from the team they drafted by)! I didn't own any of the clips in this video, it all belongs to the National Basketball Association (NBA).

NBA Stories: Toronto Raptors (Basketball Team Documentary)
The Toronto Raptors are a professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario, where their home court is at Air Canada Centre. The Raptors are part of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was established in 1995, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies, as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. When the Grizzlies relocated to Memphis, Tennessee to become the Memphis Grizzlies in 2001, the Raptors became the only Canadian team in the NBA. They originally played their home games at the SkyDome (later renamed Rogers Centre), before moving to the Air Canada Centre in 1999.
Like most expansion teams, the Raptors struggled in their early years, but after the acquisition of Vince Carter through a draft day trade in 1998, the team set league attendance records and made the NBA playoffs in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Carter was instrumental in leading the team to a then-franchise high 47 wins and their first playoff series win in 2001, where they advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. During the 2002--03 and 2003--04 seasons, they failed to make significant progress and he was traded in 2004 to the New Jersey Nets.
After Carter left, Chris Bosh emerged as the team leader. In 2006--07, Bryan Colangelo's first full season as President and General Manager, a combination of Bosh, 2006 first overall NBA draft pick Andrea Bargnani and a revamp of the roster helped the Raptors qualify for their first playoff berth in five years, capturing the Atlantic Division title with 47 wins. In the 2007--08 season, they advanced to the playoffs again, but failed to make the playoffs in each of the next five seasons. In a bid to persuade Bosh to stay, Colangelo overhauled the team roster for the 2009--10 season, but Bosh signed with the Miami Heat in July 2010, ushering in yet another era of rebuilding for the Raptors.
After Masai Ujiri was brought in as the new General Manager in 2013, he traded Bargnani to the New York Knicks. With a backcourt led by DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, the Raptors returned to the playoffs, won their second Atlantic Division title, and won a franchise record 48 games in the 2013--14 season. However, they failed for a fourth consecutive time to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs.
