On Monday July 28, 2014, I started a trip down to
West Virgina,
Virginia and
Maryland. This was a trip centered more around a family event that happened near
Alexandria, VA the weekend at the end of the week
...but being the foamer that
I am, I knew I had to go foam through
West Virginia. I knew I had to go back to
Harpers Ferry if I was going anywhere near Virginia. And this time around, I made it to
Shenandoah Junction as well...
And I wasn't disappointed and happened to spend more time in Shen then Harpers Ferry. Part 2 of this hardcore foam trip was a trip down to the
CSX Allegheny Sub for the last of the
C&O; signals. With the greatest luck possible, I made it to the C&O; signals (the only remaining ones were in
White Sulphur Springs and I pretty much got footage of all of them) only 3 days before they were all completely removed on the CSX Allegheny Sub. And this was a trip that was planned more then a year in advance with no flexibility whatsoever.
On Monday July 28, 2014, I got to
Harpers Ferry, WV about a half hour later then I would've liked. I paid the price for that because I managed to arrive the same time the
Capitol Limited departed.... which was my goal for catching...
Right on P029's tail was a CSX crude oil empty detouring over the
B&O; instead of taking the highly congested
Trenton -
River -
Chicago Lines. Then shortly after K057, I caught an
MARC train. There were a couple more
Marc trains I caught that night but arent included do to quality. Then that pretty much concluded my night as there was some sort of fatal incident in
Brunswick, Maryland that killed the train traffic.
On Tuesday July 29, 2014 I headed back out to Harpers Ferry after eating breakfast at the hotel. I arrived to a clear signal for an EB train. That signal stayed on for atleast an hour from the time I arrived. Then I started hearing radio chatter and the block signal for WB trains lit up.
Within a couple minutes CSX Q135 came out of the tunnel with a nice
C40-8W/
SD70MAC duo.
Less then a minute after Q135 got out of sight, the long awaited CSX coal train U878 came around the curve and crossed into Maryland. Then I got caught off guard by CSX Q373 while screwing around in downtown Harpers Ferry. I filmed some of the cars going over the bridge. After Q373 I headed out to Shenandoah Junction to see whats up out there. Shenandoah Junction is a 15 minute drive from Harpers Ferry, and if you ever visit either location you for sure have to visit the other. Foamer paradise. Right off the bat I missed a empty CSX coal train that had a nice SD70ACe leading. And from there I spent the rest of the day in Shenandoah Junction (and Sheperdstown, WV for lunch and NS train 203) and then at the end of the day I caught CSX Q753 the "rock runner" coming over the famous old bridge on the CSX
Shenandoah Subdivision in Harpers Ferry. For the best quality watch in HD 720p and I hope you enjoy!
