Very soon, perhaps even now depending on the cost of electricity in your area, solar technology will be more economically cost effective than traditional forms of electrical production.

The Center on Global Energy Policy hosted a presentation and discussion on The Future of Solar Energy, a study published by the MIT Energy Initiative. The study examines the technical, economic and policy dimensions of solar energy today and makes policy recommendation aimed at supporting the efficient and effective deployment of solar energy over the long-term. Francis O'Sullivan, Director of Research and Analysis at the MIT Energy Initiative, and Senior Lecturer, MIT Sloan School of Management, presented the study and its key findings. Dr. Varun Sivaram, Douglas Dillon Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations, and strategic advisor to the Office of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Reforming the Energy Vision (REV), then offered a reaction. Their remarks were followed by a moderated conversation with CGEP Inaugural Fellow David Sandalow.

shows how to hook up solar panels (with a battery bank). simple instructions. home solar power station. very easy to put together. all you need is 1 or more batteries, an inverter, charge controller and a solar panel or panels. the following is for a 12 volt system. use one 'deep cycle' battery for every 2 to 6 amps your panels generate. (batteries like to be charged at this rate). a 12 volt 1 amp panel generates about 15 watts. you can use any solar panels. if you can't get the smaller panels then buy one larger one. (Kyocera sells an inexpensive 7-8 amp solar panel (135 watter)). that would go perfect with 2 deep cycle batteries. the six panels in the video are from harbor freight tools. i bought 2 three panel sets. they sell the panels in sets of three or individually. coleman sells similar panels. the batteries are from walmart. they are 'deep cycle' batteries. the charge controller is from fry's electronics. the inverter is from harbor freight tools. this system will provide all the 'free' power you will need to run tons of things around your house. i've posted 6 videos showing all sorts of things running on this system (computers, tvs, stereos, lights, power tools, appliances, and more). all can be found on my youtube channel homepage. great little system to start with. try 'powering up' one room in your house. you now have a solar assisted house. as one example; this could easily run a light, laptop computer, fan and small tv for several hours every day. also great in an emergency, power outage, remote and rural off-grid living.

Solar energy, radiant light and heat from the sun, has been harnessed by humans since ancient times using a range of ever-evolving technologies. Solar energy technologies include solar heating, solar photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity and solar architecture, which can make considerable contributions to solving some of the most urgent problems the world now faces.
Solar technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on the way they capture, convert and distribute solar energy. Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic panels and solar thermal collectors to harness the energy. Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.
In 2011, the International Energy Agency said that "the development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies will have huge longer-term benefits. It will increase countries’ energy security through reliance on an indigenous, inexhaustible and mostly import-independent resource, enhance sustainability, reduce pollution, lower the costs of mitigating climate change, and keep fossil fuel prices lower than otherwise. These advantages are global. Hence the additional costs of the incentives for early deployment should be considered learning investments; they must be wisely spent and need to be widely shared".

The study examines the technical, economic and policy dimensions of solar energy today and makes policy recommendation aimed at supporting the efficient and effective deployment of solar energy over the long-term. Francis O'Sullivan, Director of Research and Analysis at the MIT Energy Initiative, and Senior Lecturer, MIT Sloan School of Management, presented the study and its key findings. Dr. Varun Sivaram, Douglas Dillon Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations, and strategic advisor to the Office of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Reforming the Energy Vision (REV), then offered a reaction. shows how to hook up solar panels (with a battery bank). simple instructions. home solar power station. very easy to put together. all you need is 1 or more batteries, an inverter, charge controller and a solar panel or panels. the following is for a 12 volt system. use one 'deep cycle' battery for every 2 to 6 amps your panels generate. (batteries like to be charged at this rate). a 12 volt 1 amp panel generates about 15 watts. you can use any solar panels. if you can't get the smaller panels then buy one larger one. (Kyocera sells an inexpensive 7-8 amp solar panel (135 watter)). that would go perfect with 2 deep cycle batteries. the six panels in the video are from harbor freight tools. i bought 2 three panel sets. they sell the panels in sets of three or individually. coleman sells similar panels. the batteries are from walmart. they are 'deep cycle' batteries. the charge controller is from fry's electronics. the inverter is from harbor freight tools. this system will provide all the 'free' power you will need to run tons of things around your house. i've posted 6 videos showing all sorts of things running on this system (computers, tvs, stereos, lights, power tools, appliances, and more). all can be found on my youtube channel homepage. great little system to start with. try 'powering up' one room in your house. you now have a solar assisted house. as one example; this could easily run a light, laptop computer, fan and small tv for several hours every day. also great in an emergency, power outage, remote and rural off-grid living. -

In this video, I will show you in layman's terms how a solar panel system works and how to set one up in 2 different types of systems. This video is intended for beginners so obviously there is a lot more involved than I am explaining but this covers the basics to get started. I bought that 10 watt solar panel from Solar Blvd (http://www.solarblvd.com/Solar-Panels-&-Systems-12-Volt-Solar-Panels/c1_269/index.html). I got the charge controller cheap from Amazon (there are numerous brands and knock-offs). I also got the battery from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower%C2%AE-Rechargeable-Sealed-Battery-BLMFM12_7/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid;=1415546997&sr;=8-2&keywords;=12v+sealed+battery). Everything in that video could cost between $70 and $150 depending on the products you buy and how good they are. I prefer cheap stuff for experiments so if I damage them I am not going to be too upset. -

TEDxTucson - Dave Follette - Solar Energy At The Gigawatt Scale
In this talk, Dave Follette discusses an incredible new technology for harnessing solar power using a mirror array system to create gigawatt scale energy production. Dave is the first employee of REhnu, LLC a spinoff from the University of Arizona, with the specific mission of commercializing solar power at a cost competitive with fossil fuels. Dave is a recent graduate of MIT's Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program, which combines an M.S. in mechanical engineering with an MBA from the Sloan School of Management. Prior to graduate school, Dave worked at another clean energy startup, ISE Corp in San Diego, and led the team that developed and built the twenty fuel cell buses used in the 2010 Winter Olympics. shows how to hook up solar panels (with a battery bank). simple instructions. home solar power station. very easy to put together. all you need is 1 or more batteries, an inverter, charge controller and a solar panel or panels. the following is for a 12 volt system. use one 'deep cycle' battery for every 2 to 6 amps your panels generate. (batteries like to be charged at this rate). a 12 volt 1 amp panel generates about 15 watts. you can use any solar panels. if you can't get the smaller panels then buy one larger one. (Kyocera sells an inexpensive 7-8 amp solar panel (135 watter)). that would go perfect with 2 deep cycle batteries. the six panels in the video are from harbor freight tools. i bought 2 three panel sets. they sell the panels in sets of three or individually. coleman sells similar panels. the batteries are from walmart. they are 'deep cycle' batteries. the charge controller is from fry's electronics. the inverter is from harbor freight tools. this system will provide all the 'free' power you will need to run tons of things around your house. i've posted 6 videos showing all sorts of things running on this system (computers, tvs, stereos, lights, power tools, appliances, and more). all can be found on my youtube channel homepage. great little system to start with. try 'powering up' one room in your house. you now have a solar assisted house. as one example; this could easily run a light, laptop computer, fan and small tv for several hours every day. also great in an emergency, power outage, remote and rural off-grid living.

I bought that 10 watt solar panel from Solar Blvd (http://www.solarblvd.com/Solar-Panels-&-Systems-12-Volt-Solar-Panels/c1_269/index.html). I got the charge controller cheap from Amazon (there are numerous brands and knock-offs). I also got the battery from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower%C2%AE-Rechargeable-Sealed-Battery-BLMFM12_7/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid;=1415546997&sr;=8-2&keywords;=12v+sealed+battery). Everything in that video could cost between $70 and $150 depending on the products you buy and how good they are. I prefer cheap stuff for experiments so if I damage them I am not going to be too upset.

Dave is the first employee of REhnu, LLC a spinoff from the University of Arizona, with the specific mission of commercializing solar power at a cost competitive with fossil fuels. Dave is a recent graduate of MIT's Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program, which combines an M.S. in mechanical engineering with an MBA from the Sloan School of Management. Prior to graduate school, Dave worked at another clean energy startup, ISE Corp in San Diego, and led the team that developed and built the twenty fuel cell buses used in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In this talk, Dave Follette discusses an incredible new technology for harnessing solar power using a mirror array system to create gigawatt scale energy production.
Dave is the first employee of REhnu, LLC a spinoff from the University of Arizona, with the specific mission of commercializing solar power at a cost competitive with fossil fuels. Dave is a recent graduate of MIT's Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program, which combines an M.S. in mechanical engineering with an MBA from the Sloan School of Management. Prior to graduate school, Dave worked at another clean energy startup, ISE Corp in San Diego, and led the team that developed and built the twenty fuel cell buses used in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxTucson, where x = independently organized TED event. Memanfaatkan sinar matahahari gratis dengan solar panel yang langsung dihubungkan dengan jaringan PLN menggunakan Grid Tie Inverter. Dengan sistem ini kita tidak lagi memerlukan batery untuk menyimpan arus DC yang diproduksi solar panel, sehingga kita bisa menghemat biaya.
Inverter jenis ini (GTI) hanya akan bekerja/mengeluarkan arus AC bila jaringan PLN sedang hidup saja. Jadi tidak bisa dijadikan back up power bila PLN mati.
Frequensi dan tegangan keluaran dari GTI sama/sinkron dengan tegangan & freq listrik PLN.
On Grid Solar power generation system.
Harnessing the sun energy for free with a solar panel that is directly connected to the grid using the Grid Tie Inverter. With this system we no longer need a battery to save the DC current produced by solar panels, so that we can save costs.
This type of inverter (GTI) will only work while the grid is living alone therefore we can not use this system as back up power while the grid is off.
The frequency and output voltage of the GTI are synchronous the voltage and frequency of the grid.

Will Falling Oil Prices Kill Wind and Solar Power? Dr. Steven Chu During your time at the Department of Energy the deployment of renewable energy in the U.S. doubled. Is the fall in fossil-fuel prices killing the business case for renewables? The decline in fossil-fuel prices does have some effect, but remember that 78 percent of the economies of the U.S. have state-mandated renewable portfolio standards. They require that a specified fraction of electricity must come from renewable energy. For example, in California the goal is 33 percent renewable energy by 2020. Right now renewable electricity is roughly 13 percent of total electricity generated in the U.S. Half is hydropower and the other half is mostly wind energy, with some solar, biomass and geothermal. Renewable energy costs have come down significantly. Even if natural gas, which is the cheapest form of electricity generation today, stays at $4 per million Btus [British thermal units], wind without subsidy is almost as inexpensive. Electrical generation in the sunnier parts of the U.S. is also approaching equality with a new natural gas power plant. The cost of wind and solar is anticipated to decline for at least a decade or two. Designing a Solar Powered Backup Power Source for a listener Part 1 of 2
A listener requested this video to explain how to install a solar powered backup power system for his future home in Guyana. The commercial power is quite unreliable and he wants this system for both back up purposes and to save some money (if possible). We look at some solar power basics then dive into: - Calculating your loads and why efficiency is so important - Picking a solar panel - what do all the numbers mean? - How should I wire the panels? Series, Parallel, or some combination? - Why use batteries, and how many of what type? - What's a charge controller and why use one? What does MPPT mean? - How to get 120 volts AC for your appliances from DC? All about inverters. - A summation including an alternate design using just batteries, a charger, inverter and some electrical gear. - And countless other details, hints and kinks! This video is not designed to be a complete reference into this subject, but rather a splattering of the kinds of things you have to consider, some of the calculations you will have to make, and what equipment you will need. During your time at the Department of Energy the deployment of renewable energy in the U.S. doubled. Is the fall in fossil-fuel prices killing the business case for renewables?
The decline in fossil-fuel prices does have some effect, but remember that 78 percent of the economies of the U.S. have state-mandated renewable portfolio standards. They require that a specified fraction of electricity must come from renewable energy. For example, in California the goal is 33 percent renewable energy by 2020.
Right now renewable electricity is roughly 13 percent of total electricity generated in the U.S. Half is hydropower and the other half is mostly wind energy, with some solar, biomass and geothermal. Renewable energy costs have come down significantly. Even if natural gas, which is the cheapest form of electricity generation today, stays at $4 per million Btus [British thermal units], wind without subsidy is almost as inexpensive.
Electrical generation in the sunnier parts of the U.S. is also approaching equality with a new natural gas power plant. The cost of wind and solar is anticipated to decline for at least a decade or two. Perhaps in a decade, renewables will be competitive with any new form of energy in many parts of the U.S.

We look at some solar power basics then dive into:
- Calculating your loads and why efficiency is so important
- Picking a solar panel - what do all the numbers mean?
- How should I wire the panels? Series, Parallel, or some combination?
- Why use batteries, and how many of what type?
- What's a charge controller and why use one? What does MPPT mean?
- How to get 120 volts AC for your appliances from DC? All about inverters.
- A summation including an alternate design using just batteries, a charger, inverter and some electrical gear.
- And countless other details, hints and kinks!
This video is not designed to be a complete reference into this subject, but rather a splattering of the kinds of things you have to consider, some of the calculations you will have to make, and what equipment you will need. I do not cover the details of how to install such a system, such as wire size/type, grounding, fusing, and similar details. As it is, the video is 1.5 hours long!
