Spain V.
Catalonia
Having started our Mediterranean itinerary in
Istanbul, we sailed across the coastlands of
Turkey,
Syria,
Cyprus,
Lebanon,
Palestine,
Egypt,
Libya,
Tunisia,
Malta,
Algeria,
Morocco, and Spain.
Today, we complete our itinerary off the
Spanish coast, visiting Catalonia to the borders of
Occitania (
France).
The present video contains seven songs in five different languages:

José Carreras -- Pel teu amor (in
Catalan)
Josep Maria Carreras i Coll (born 1946) is a famous Catalan tenor; the present song was composed by
Ricard Lamote de Grignon i Ribas (1899 -- 1962), and was included in José Carreras'
album ''Mediterranean
Passion'' (2008). The present interpretation was performed in "La voce oltre i confini" Giardini della
Villa Reale di Monza (

Lola Beltran -- Cucurrucucu
Paloma (in Spanish)
Lola Beltrán (1932 --
1996) was a famous
Mexican actress, and one of the most acclaimed Mexican ranchera singers, typically called '
Lola la Grande'; the famous Mexican Huapango song was written by
Tomas Mendez, and first interpreted by Lola la Grande in the homonymous movie. As it was one of the greatest hits back in the 50s and the 60s, the song appeared also in other movies, ad was interpreted by a great number of popular singers.

Montserrat Caballé &
Freddie Mercury --

Montserrat Caballé (born 1933 in Barcelona) is world famous, Catalan operatic soprano. Freddie Mercury (1946 --
1991, born as
Farrokh Bulsara to a
Parsi family in
Zanzibar and grown in
Gujarat, SW
India) was a
British lead vocalist and a songwriter of the rock band
Queen. Barcelona was an album recorded in
1987 -- 8 in view of the
Olympic Games I
1992. The idea was to create a duet with
Montserrat, as she is from the city. As they rarely had an opening in their schedule to meet, Caballé's parts were recorded at another location; many referred to the album as ''the most bizarre CD of the year''. The first performance took place in May 1987 (Ku Klub,
Ibiza), and the next performance occurred on 8
October 1988, at the open air La Nit festival in Barcelona, which was staged on the occasion of the arrival of the
Olympic Flag.

Cha cha cha flamenco
Caterina Valente (born in 1931 in
Paris) is a world famous Italian-born singer, dancer, and actress who sang in many languages and performed across the globe; the present song (with her brother as second vocalist) was included in the album
Malaguena that was released in
1955 (the basic song is not to be confused with
Malaguena Salerosa).

Mireille Mathieu -- La paloma adieu
Mireille Mathieu (born 1946) is a world famous
French pop singer; she recorded over 1200 songs in nine different languages, with more than
120 million records sold worldwide. The present song was written in
1860 by Spanish
Basque composer
Sebastian Yradier, and the
French lyrics are due to
Catherine Desage.
- Caterina Valente - Der Schwarze
Engel (the
Black Angel)
Caterina Valente sings the
German version of the famous song Angelitos Negros (
Black Angels) that was interpreted by the famous Mexican actor and singer
Pedro Infante in the homonymous movie (1948).
The Spanish lyrics are an
adaptation of the poem ''
Pintame Angelitos Negros'' (
Paint Black Angels for me) of the
Venezuelan poet
Andres Eloy Blanco.
