About trek
The trek to Harihar Fort is tiring due to stiff climbing. The last 250 feet of the climbing is a breathtaking experience, through steep rock cut stairs inclined at 80 degrees. In the monsoon as the stairs become slippery, trekking should be avoided in this season as its too risky. The fort is famous for its marvelous beautiful stairs crafted in a rock having grips for holding by hands while climbing.
There are two ways to reach Harihar:
1) From Nirgudpada village,from there Harihar fort gate is around 1:30 hrs walk.
2) From Harshewadi,near Trimbakeshwar ,fort entrance is around 1:30 hrs walk.
From top ,Vaitarna dam and the Trimbakeshwar mountain ranges can be seen.
There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. Drinking water is available at top of fort (contaminated by bacterias, not recommended) ,also mineral water bottles are sold on small stalls on route.
History
Harihar, also known as Harish Fort, is 7 km west of Trimbak and 1,120.44 metres (3,676 feet) above sea-level. It was one of the forts in the possession of the Ahemadnagar Sultans. Captain Briggs from the British army visited the fort in 1818, and left a fairly detailed description. He described the ascent as truly wonderful. Captain Briggs also added that it was so difficult to climb that only five men could hold it against any odds. He further states that words would not be able to give an idea of its dreadful steepness. It is perfectly straight for about 60.96 metres (200 feet) and can only be compared to a ladder up a wall 60.96 metres (200 feet) high. In 1636 Harihar, Trimbakgad, Tringalvadi and a few other Poona forts were given by the Marathas to the Mughals. Harihar was one of the seventeen strong places that were surrendered to the British on the fall of Trimbak in 1818. This was one of the rare fort that was not destroyed by the British because of its beauty.

In Harihar Nagar is a 1990 Malayalam comedy-thriller film written and directed by duo Siddique-Lal. It stars Mukesh, Siddique, Jagadish and Ashokan in major roles. The film became one of
the biggest hits in the Malayalam film history and has a dedicated cult following. It is referred to as part of the golden age of Malayalam comedy and among the most hilarious movies in Indian
cinema. The film ran for 150 days.
The film has spawned three sequels, 2 Harihar Nagar (2009), In Ghost House Inn (2010) and John Honai (2015), where the first two sequels were written and directed by Lal and the third sequel, which is currently under production, is directed by T.A. Thoufeeq. In Harihar Nagar was remade in several other Indian languages including twice in Hindi as Parda Hai Parda and Dhol as well as in Kannada (Nagaradalli Nayakaru), Tamil (MGR Nagaril) and Telugu (Madhuranagarilo).
Mahadevan (Mukesh), Govindan Kutty (Siddique), Appukuttan (Jagadish) and Thomas Kutty (Ashokan) are four young men who live in the housing colony 'Harihar Nagar' in a city of Kerala.
The movie starts with an incident which takes place in Bombay, where a murder happens for a 'briefcase'. In the next scene, the four are then shown with their tricks to impress girls. A girl,
""Maya"" (Geetha Vijayan), along with her grandparents come as Mahadevan's new neighbours. The four try to impress her during which they find her posting a letter. They bribe the postman
and manage to get that letter. Through the letter, they come to know that Maya is in town to know more about the murder of her brother - Sethu Madhavan (Suresh Gopi). Maya visits the house of Andrews (Saikumar) - friend of Sethu Madhavan. She requests
Androse's mother - Ammachi (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) to contact her if she gets any information about her brother. The four meet Ammachi as Sethu's friends. They manage to get Sethu's
photo by telling that they want it for the colony's sports club. Maya gets this information from Ammachi and meets them. She believes them to be Sethu's friends after seeing his photo at their house. The four make a story about an affair of Sethu and another girl.

Harihar
Harihar ([hʌrihər] also called Harihara) is a city located in Davanagere District in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also the administrative headquarters of the Harihar Taluk. Harihar also spelled Hari-hara, in Hinduism, is a syncretic deity, combining the two major gods, Vishnu (Hari) and Siva (Hara). Images of Harihara (also known as Sambhu-Visnu and Sankara-Narayana, variants of the names of the two gods) began to appear in the classical period after sectarian movements, which elevated one god as supreme over the others, had waned sufficiently for efforts at compromise to be attempted. The region of Harihar had been under the control of the Hoysalas from the 11th to 13th centuries AD. Harihar is famous for a Harihareshwara temple, which is also known as "Dakshina Kashi".
Harihara is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, 275 kilometres north of Bangalore. The neighboring city Davangere is 14 km; Harihar is connected by road and railway, and is located on national Highway 4 (Puna – Bangalore). It has a very pleasant climate through the year. Both Harihar and Davangere cities are referred as twin cities like Hubli and Dharwad.

About trek
The trek to Harihar Fort is tiring due to stiff climbing. The last 250 feet of the climbing is a breathtaking experience, through steep rock cut stairs inclined at 80 degrees. In the monsoon as the stairs become slippery, trekking should be avoided in this season as its too risky. The fort is famous for its marvelous beautiful stairs crafted in a rock having grips for holding by hands while climbing.
There are two ways to reach Harihar:
1) From Nirgudpada village,from there Harihar fort gate is around 1:30 hrs walk.
2) From Harshewadi,near Trimbakeshwar ,fort entrance is around 1:30 hrs walk.
From top ,Vaitarna dam and the Trimbakeshwar mountain ranges can be seen.
There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. Drinking water is available at top of fort (contaminated by bacterias, not recommended) ,also mineral water bottles are sold on small stalls on route.
History

In Harihar Nagar is a 1990 Malayalam comedy-thriller film written and directed by duo Siddique-Lal. It stars Mukesh, Siddique, Jagadish and Ashokan in major roles. The film became one of
the biggest hits in the Malayalam film history and has a dedicated cult following. It is referred to as part of the golden age of Malayalam comedy and among the most hilarious movies in Indian
cinema. The film ran for 150 days.
The film has spawned three sequels, 2 Harihar Nagar (2009), In Ghost House Inn (2010) and John Honai (2015), where the first two sequels were written and directed by Lal and the third sequel, which is currently under production, is directed by T.A. Thoufeeq. In Harihar Nagar was remade in several other Indian languages including twice in Hindi as Parda Hai Parda and Dhol as well as in Kannada (Nagaradalli Nayakaru), Tamil (MGR Nagaril) and Telugu (Madhuranagarilo).
Mahadevan (Mukesh), Govindan Kutty (Siddique), Appukuttan (Jagadish) and Thomas Kutty (Ashokan) are four young men who live in the housing colony 'Harihar Nagar' in a city of Kerala.
The movie starts with an incident which takes place in Bombay, where a murder happens for a 'briefcase'. In the next scene, the four are then shown with their tricks to impress girls. A girl,
""Maya"" (Geetha Vijayan), along with her grandparents come as Mahadevan's new neighbours. The four try to impress her during which they find her posting a letter. They bribe the postman
and manage to get that letter. Through the letter, they come to know that Maya is in town to know more about the murder of her brother - Sethu Madhavan (Suresh Gopi). Maya visits the house of Andrews (Saikumar) - friend of Sethu Madhavan. She requests
Androse's mother - Ammachi (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) to contact her if she gets any information about her brother. The four meet Ammachi as Sethu's friends. They manage to get Sethu's
photo by telling that they want it for the colony's sports club. Maya gets this information from Ammachi and meets them. She believes them to be Sethu's friends after seeing his photo at their house. The four make a story about an affair of Sethu and another girl.

The Sonepur Cattle Fair or Malegaon Mela is held on Kartik Poornima (the full moon day) in the month of November in Sonepur, Bihar, on the confluence of river Ganges and Gandak. It is also known as Harihar Kshetra Mela and it attracts visitors from all over Asia. Till date, it is the biggest cattle fair of Asia and stretches on from fifteen days to one month. It has its origins during ancient times. This is when Chandragupta Maurya used to buy elephants and horses across the river Ganges. The Sonepur Cattle Fair once used to attract traders from places as distant as Central Asia.
Many farm animals can be bought at the Sonepur mela from all breeds of dogs, buffaloes, donkeys, ponies, Persian horses, rabbits, goats and even the occasional camel. Many varieties of birds and poultry are also available. The area that attracts all, however, is the Haathi Bazaar where elephants are lined up for sale. The Sonepur Fair is the only one where such a large number of elephants are traded - although they cannot legally be sold. Numerous stalls are also set up at the grounds of the Sonepur Cattle Fair. You will find a wide variety of goods in these stalls, ranging from garments, to weapons and furniture, toys, utensils and agricultural implements, jewelry and handicrafts. Major attraction is the sight of numerous elephants, beautifully decorated for the purpose of sale.
