In December of 1994, at the age of 3, I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (Autism Spectrum Disorder). I made a couple of videos describing what it was like growing up with it. This video is an informative video for parents who may have children who have been diagnosed with the same disorder. Since this disorder is fairly new, I want to give people a brief idea of what it is like growing up with it and now living with it as an adult.
This video is pretty emotional, also there are few parts to it. I apologize for how long it is, but this kind of explains all the help and support I got through my life so far.

A trip to the park for Anna can be tough. Choices to make, sensory information to process, fear of a clown and train... it's a lot to handle for a child with PDD-NOS. When left alone, Anna tends to drift into silent and isolated play. She does love to swing though and that was a highlight!

Dr. Monkarsh trains family members in ways to facilitate socially adaptive behavior and self-regulation. He believes that in order to nurture the growth of an individual, others must understand the unique developmental process that characterizes a pervasive developmental disorder. This presentation explains the complexities of family interactions, the stresses they experience and how to best cope with them.
