Iran (/aɪˈræn/ or i/ɪˈrɑːn/;Persian: Irān – ایران [ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), also known as Persia (/ˈpɜːrʒə/ or /ˈpɜːrʃə/), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (جمهوری اسلامی ایران – Jomhuri ye Eslāmi ye Irān [d͡ʒomhuːˌɾije eslɒːˌmije ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia, the de facto Nagorno-Karabakh, and Azerbaijan; with Kazakhstan and Russia across the Caspian Sea; to the northeast by Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Turkey and Iraq. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), it is the second-largest country in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world. With 78.4 million inhabitants, Iran is the world's 17th-most-populous country. It is the only country that has both a Caspian Sea and an Indian Ocean coastline. Iran has long been of geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia and Western Asia, and its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.
Part 2: http://youtu.be/b2oICRgi6wI Located in the heart of the Middle East, Iran holds some of the world’s largest deposits of oil and natural gas. In 2013, the country produced 3.2 million barrels per day of petroleum to remain among the top 10 oil producers in the world. While the all-out sanctions imposed by the US and the EU are still hampering Iran’s oil industry, the country’s petrochemical industry has seen major growth in both sales and exports in recent months. On this edition of Iran Today, we discuss the advances in Iran’s petrochemical industry and its agility in overcoming the sanctions. Since Iran is a gas and oil superpower, it has an enormous potential in the plastics industry to be tapped. Each year, the world produces about 130 million kilos of ethylene, the most important raw material for plastic. This gigantic industry is currently dependent on crude oil. Holding more than 11 percent of the world oil reserves, the equivalent of around 19 billion tons of oil or around 139 billion barrels, Iran is the world’s fourth energy-rich country. For that reason, it would be advantageous for Iran to develop and expand its plastics industry, provided its petrochemicals industry can produce high-quality products to compete with the rest of the world. The Iran Plast exhibition started on April 13 and brought together 500 local and 400 foreign companies. The foreign ones came fr...

Car prices in Iran have skyrocketed since April 2011. When prices passed the thirty percent increase mark; the government intervened but only managed to decrease the prices 10 to 15 percent. Second only to the oil and gas sector, auto-manufacturing is a major industrial sector in Iran which has placed the country among the top ten largest auto makers in Asia and is known to be the biggest in the Middle East. Soaring prices forced Iran's major auto-makers, Iran Khodro and Saipa, to reduce production and sales. Observers point to several factors as the reasons for the escalating prices including: the depreciation of the Iranian currency, government mismanagement, and the lack of price regulations that would allow comprehensive controls over the automobile market. The escalating prices also ...

My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country. CITIES The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastria...

Tehran has been the capital of the Persian Empire since 1795. Founded by Mohammed Aga Khan it is a vibrant place that ranks among the most densely populated cities on Earth. Travel video about destination Shiraz in Iran. The Koran Gate leads to the city of Shiraz, a city of love, roses and poetry that is located in the south of the Iranian Highlands. Famous Persian poets once lived in the city in which they created works of great beauty and even today their mausoleums are visited with much reverence. With its many domed rooms, the Vakil Bath House was built in around 1776 A.D. Within the vaults, numerous frescoes depict floral ornaments and religious motifs, with life-like characters amid inviting bathing facilities. The Vakil complex also contains a mosque that was built at the same time as the Bazaar and is a replicre of a regal Arabian mosque. Travel video about destination Esfahan in Iran. With its historic centre, Esfahan is situated on the banks of the Zayandeh Rud River and is a gem of ancient Persia. In the centre of the historic city centre is the modest Pillar Halls Mosque which is thought to have been built above a fire temple. In around 1087, Seljuk vizier, Nizam Ol-Molk, had the pillar hall and its many small brick domes, completed. Due to a fire lit by the Assassins in 1121 A.D., the original mosque was destroyed. Following the death of Shah Abbas, around thirty thousand Christian Armenians settled in the Julfa district where they built the Savior Cathedral. Its interior features the history of the Christianisation of Armenia that is depicted on several illustrated panels created by the Holy Gregor. The grandeur of...

Travel video about destination Yazd in Iran. The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in ...
When it comes to Tehran, it's impossible to avoid politics and easy to overlook the Iranian city's thriving culinary scene. In our first installment of The MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, our host Gelareh Kiazand introduces us to the bustling street food offerings in the city. We begin our journey at the capital city's Grand Bazaar, since that's where commodities first arrive. Gelareh beelines for the market's food stands, where she samples dried fruits and nuts while waiting out the line at Moslem Restaurant, frequented by up to 5,000 kebab connoisseurs daily—well worth it for her favorite tah chin. At the more modest and bygone Tajrish Bazaar, she's the proverbial kid in a candy store, wading through copper and carpet vendors in search of sweet snacks, such as grape molasses and lavasak (fru...

http://www.iranmilitaryforum.net Documentary on the current status of the civil aviation industry of Iran and possible future direction.
http://www.presstv.com/Program/204140.html 3000 kilometers of Iran's border meet the sea and since long before Columbus, Iranians have been riding the waves in war and peace time. But in modern times, Iran's ship building is a relatively new industry. The country is battling to acquire the technology and expertise needed to get a foot in the global ship building market, but for now it's an out of pocket endeavor. As an oil rich nation Iran has been obliged, until quite recently, to rely on outside help when it comes to transporting its oil. And offshore oil projects also demand industrial might that Iran has yet to fully develop. So although the bills are mostly flowing in at this point, and returns for Iran's ship building industry are slight, Tehran is supporting its expenditure, ...
http://www.presstv.com/Program/216935.html It's the 18th of October 2011. Iran Air Boeing 727 is in trouble. It's approaching the runway at Tehran's Mehrabad airport, but a technical problem has occurred. The front wheels have failed to deploy. 113 people are on board, 80 percent of them Russian and the plane still has a lot of fuel in its tank. A bad landing could mean a raging inferno and the death of everyone on board. But pilot Houshang Shahbaazi is in control. He manages to keep the nose of the plane up long enough to land gracefully, without the front wheel. A catastrophe has been avoided. This is not an isolated incident. Every year Iranian pilots face a number of hair-raising episodes, and every now and then tragedy does strike. Iran's aviation industry is struggling...

Significant progress has been made as a result, but the politicians are still worried that universities and industries are not collaborating as closely as they should. In this edition of Iran today, we discuss the Iranian government’s efforts to link the country’s education system more closely with the industry sector. http://www.presstv.com/Program/209677.html The world's most important economic sector by revenue is the automotive industry. A country's car companies can define its industrial might, and put it on the map as it were. Iran's car industry has a long history and has been the biggest in the Middle East and central Asia for decades. It has production lines in countries like Venezuela and Syria, and in Iran itself, the demand is high. That said Iran's car industry has sparked debate inside the country. Some say it is doing well in filling orders, but the quality and price of Iran's cars, especially those manufactured inside the country, are controversial subjects. In this edition of the show we'll be discussing these issues and more.
