The glorious image of the 6th-century Bamiyan Buddhist statue, destroyed 14 years ago by the Taliban, was recovered by a Chinese couple on June 6 and 7 with lighting technology in Afghanistan.
Zhang Xinyu and his wife Liang Hong are adventure enthusiasts from China.
On the two nights, they used projections to bring back the buddhas' images for eight hours.
Local people were very excited about this event. They sang and danced for the historic moment.
"It's a very historic moment for us, and I think the moment somehow reminds us of the revival of our history, something that was destroyed during the Taliban time. And we were very unhappy about that. This cannot fill the empty place of [the buddhas], but it's something that reminds us that it is not dead."said Javad ,a Bamiyan person.
To avoide any possible affect to the relics, they used metal halogen lamps, and added a quartz glass mask to the light source.
The couple finally voluntary donated the lighting equipment to local department of cultural relics protection, which thus decided to reproduce the images in March every year in the future.
The Bamiyan Buddhas were two 6th-century monumental statues of standing Buddhas carved into the side of a cliff in the Bamiyan valley in the Hazarajat region of central Afghanistan, 230 km northwest of Kabul. Built in 507 AD (the smaller one) and 554 AD (the larger one), respectively, the statues represented the classic and blended style of Gandhara art.
They were destroyed with dynamites in March 2001 by the Taliban, on orders from their leader Mullah Mohammed Omar.
"Although it is just a piece of light, it can shine into Bamiyan and light up the Buddhas. I think it can at least tell people that once there exited a beautiful place, there exited profound culture and long history. We hope the use of lighting technology can show our respect to the culture and history," said Liang Hong.

Fourteen years after the Taliban dynamited the world-famous Buddhas of Bamiyan, the giant statues were resurrected with 3D light projection technology in the empty cavities where they once stood in Afghanistan.
The project was undertaken by a Chinese couple who used 3D laser light projection technology to fill the empty cavities in the cliff in the Bamiyan Valley in Hazarajat with Buddha's virtual images, 230 km northwest of Kabul.
The couple - Janson Yu and Liyan Hu - were saddened by the destruction of the two statues which were carved during the 6th century and decided to undertake the project.
They took permission both from the Afghan government and UNESCO to bring the statues back for one night only in the empty cavities in the cliff.
The event on June 7 saw projectors displaying huge holographic statues of the exact size of the precious cultural monuments that were lost, accompanied by music.
"The projections were not widely publicised, but over 150 people came to see the spectacle. Crowds remained well into the night and some people played music while others looked on," a journalist, who witnessed the show, was quoted as saying by The Atlanic.
Both Standing Buddhas - 115 ft and 174 ft tall - were carved out of sandstone cliffs and stood at one point painted and gilded. They managed to survive for more than 1500 years.
But the Taliban dynamited and destroyed them in March 2001 as part of a campaign to remove all non-Islamic art from Afghanistan.
The statues were among the most famous cultural landmarks of the region, and the site was listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site along with the surrounding cultural landscape and archaeological remains of the Bamiyan Valley.
Japan and Switzerland, among others, have pledged support for the rebuilding of the statues.

The Greatest Buildings You'll Never See, 19 Priceless Monuments Lost In Conflict (Part 1). (CNN). It is a cruel irony that a region so blessed with the treasures of early human civilizations is also among those most troubled by conflict. As the violence threatens to annihilate some of history's greatest monuments, we count the cost of our irreplaceable losses. Great Mosque of Samarra, Iraq
Once the largest mosque in the world, built in the 9th century on the Tigris River north of Baghdad. The mosque is famous for the Malwiya Tower, a 52-meter minaret with spiraling ramps for worshipers to climb. Among Iraq's most important sites, it even featured on banknotes. The site was bombed in 2005, in an insurgent attack on a NATO position, destroying the top of the minaret and surrounding walls.
The Buddhas of Bamyan, Afghanistan
The most spectacular legacy of Buddhism in the war-torn country, among the tallest standing Buddhas in the world -- the larger at 53 meters, the other 35 -- had survived over 1,500 years since being carved out of sandstone. The Taliban considered the monuments idolatrous and destroyed them with dynamite.
The ancient city of Bosra, Syria
Continually inhabited for 2,500 years, and became the capital of the Romans' Arabian empire. The centerpiece is a magnificent Roman theater dating back to the second century that survived intact until the current conflict. Archaeologists have revealed the site is now severely damaged from mortar shelling.
Norias of Hama, Syria
These 20-meter wide water wheels were first documented in the 5th century, representing an ingenious early irrigation system. Seventeen of the wooden norias (a machine for lifting water into an aqueduct) survived to present day and became Hama's primary tourist attraction, noted for their groaning sounds as they turned. Heritage expertsdocumented several wheels being burned by fighters in 2014.
Citadel of Aleppo, Syria
The fortress spans at least four millennia, from the days of Alexander the Great, through Roman, Mongol, and Ottoman rule. The site has barely changed since the 16th century and is one of Syria's most popular World Heritage sites. The citadel has been used as an army base in recent fighting and several of its historic buildings have been destroyed.
Deir Ez-zor bridge, Syria
This French-built suspension bridge was a popular pedestrian crossing and vantage point for its views of the Euphrates River. It became a key supply line in a battle for the city, and collapsed under shelling. Deir Ez-zor's Siyasiyeh Bridge was also destroyed.
Crac des Chevaliers, Syria
The Crusader castle from the 11th century survived centuries of battles and natural disasters, becoming a World Heritage site in 2006 along with the adjacent castle of Qal'at Salah El-Din. The walls were severely damaged by regime airstrikes and artillery in 2013, and rebels took positions within it.

Five Tallest Buddha statues in the world.
#5 The Grand Buddha at Ling Shan , China Height 88m (289 ft)
Exactly 216 steps lead to the Grand Buddha, an impressive, 88 m bronze statue in Ling Shan, south of China’s Longshan Mountains. The statue weighs over 700 tons and was completed in 1996.
#4 The Great Buddha of Thailand, Height 92 m (302ft)
Construction started in 1990 and was finished 18 years later.
#3 Ushiku Daibutsu, Japan. Height 110 m (360ft)
The statue was completed in 1993 and stands on a 10 m high base and another 10 m high lotus platform. Just to get a vague idea of the dimensions: the Buddha’s hands are each 18 m long, each ear 10 m and the mouth 4 m.
#2 Laykyun Setkyyar, Myanmar (Burma) Height 116m (381ft)
Though it is often billed at 132 m (433 ft), the height of the statue is 116 m (380 ft). Since its opening in February 2008, the statue has become one of Myanmar’s main tourist attractions.
#1 Spring Temple Buddha, China Height 128m (420ft)
The Spring Temple Buddha, named after the nearby Tianrui hot spring, was built in response to the destruction of the Buddhas of Bamyan, an act the Chinese government condemned. The project was completed in 2002 and tops the Ushiku Daibutsu by 8 m, making it the tallest completed statue in the world.

STORYLINE
Different buddhas... different karmas!
While Afghanistan Taliban's destroyed some of the world's biggest Buddhas, in China, workers are busy giving a facelift to the world largest sitting Buddha statue.
Allegedly eighteen metres higher than their one time Bamiyan counterparts, the Leshan Giant
Buddha in China's southern province of Sichuan Province is 1200 years old.
Carved on a cliff face at the confluence of three rivers the Min River, Dadu River and Qingyi River, the spectacular project took 90 years to complete.
Begun in the year 713 AD the statue was finished in 803 AD.
The work was initiated by a monk called Haitong who organized fundraising and hired workers.
Seventy one metres high in total, the Buddha's head is 15 metres, 10 metres in diameter, with 1021 hair rolls, one ear measures 7 metres, the nose 5.6 metres, whilst the eyes 3.3 meters each.
Each shoulder is 28 metres long.
One foot is 8.5 metres wide and 11 metres long - enough to have a hundred people sitting on it.

"The renovation way we use is a traditional formula which is the same as the ancient Chinese people used to maintain the Buddha. Statues of Lord Buddha inside the Chinese monastery at Bodhgaya, Bihar.
Built in Chinese architectural style by the Chinese government and the Buddhist monks, the Chinese monastery though a very small structure in Bodh Gaya, is worth visiting. Dedicated to the Lord Buddha, the monastery houses a Chinese temple, which is further an excellent illustration of the amalgamation of the Chinese architecture with religion. The monastery is located near the Maha Bodhi temple complex and is open for the visitors from 7am to 5 pm with lunch in between.
Located in southern part of the Indian state of Bihar, Bodh Gaya is one of the four major sacred places along with Lumbini, Sarnath and Kushinagar, venerated by the Buddhists from all across the globe. Named after the Lord Buddha, Bodh Gaya reveres the Buddha's nirvana and hosts numerous temples and monasteries dedicated in the honour of the Lord Buddha.
The Chinese monastery in Bodh Gaya celebrates different festivals to mark the days related to the Buddha and Buddhism. The Buddha Jayanti is the most important festival celebrated every year on the full moon night in the month of Vaishakha(April-May) to commemorate the birth and enlightenment of the Lord Buddha. The Buddhists from all over the world come to Bodh Gaya to attend the celebrations of Buddha Jayanti, which involves religious discourses, prayers, sermons on the life of the Buddha, recitation of the Buddhist scriptures, group meditation and worship of the Buddha's statues.
