Amrinder Gill (Punjabi: ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਗਿੱਲ; born 1976) is a Punjabi singer and actor. He started his career with the album named "Apni Jaan Ke" in 2000.

Early life

Gill was born and raised in Boorchand, Amritsar, Punjab. He has studied at Khalsa College, Amritsar. He received master's degree in agriculture science. He is alumni of Guru Nanak Dev University. During college, he performed Bhangra dance as a support artist for personalities like Sarbjit Cheema. Before starting his singing career, he worked in a bank.

Career

He recorded his first song for Jalandhar Doordarshan program Kala Doria. Gill came into the limelight with his breakthrough track "Paigam," followed by such hits such like "Daru," “Madhaania," “Khedan De Din," with Sunidhi Chauhan, and many others like "Mel Kara De" and "Dildarian." His album Judaa was considered one of the most successful Punjabi albums of all time. In 2012, Judaa received a Brit Asia Music Awards for 'best album. After the success of Judaa, In mid 2014, Amrinder Gill came up with a sequel Judaa 2.As judaa helped him to earn more success Judaa 2 did the same, Judaa 2 became a super hit in Punjab. Angrej (2015) was a blockbuster that raised the bar of Amrinder Gill

Xiu Xiu

Xiu Xiu /ˈʃuːʃuː/ is an American experimental noise pop group originally from San Jose, California. The band is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart, who has been its only constant member since its inception. As of 2009, his bandmate has been Angela Seo. The band's name is taken from the 1998 Chinese film Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl.

History

Jamie Stewart formed Xiu Xiu in 2002 after his previous band, Ten in the Swear Jar, disbanded. Stewart and Cory McCullough continued from the previous group, and were joined by Yvonne Chen and Lauren Andrews. The band's sound was characterized by its use of indigenous instruments and programmed drums in place of traditional rock instruments: harmonium, mandolin, brass bells, gongs, keyboards, and a cross between a guitarrón mexicano and a cello for bass. The band's name comes from the film Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl. In Stewart's description, the film's theme is that of no resolution—that awful things happen to the protagonist throughout the film and she dies at the end. The band found its first tracks to match the "rotten realness" spirit of the film, "that sometimes life turns out with a worst possible case scenario". Stewart said Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car", which Xiu Xiu covered on A Promise, had a similar theme. He later added that the band was a product of San Jose pirate radio stations that played house, hi-NRG, freestyle, and techno, which Stewart considered unpretentious, plain, heartbroken, clear, and based around dancing away sadness. He said he wrote his first Xiu Xiu song after leaving a San Jose dance club alone on a Christmas night: "Xiu Xiu came from feeling stupid and lonely and then wanting to dance it away, but having the club and its music only magnify that stupid and lonely feeling."

English subjunctive

The English subjunctive is used to form sentences that do not describe known objective facts. These include statements about one's state of mind, such as opinion, belief, purpose, intention, or desire. The subjunctive mood is also used for statements that are contrary to fact, such as If I were a giraffe, … (subjunctive), as distinguished from I was a giraffe. Subjunctive statements often occur in dependent clauses, such as the subjunctive example in the preceding sentence. It contrasts with the indicative mood, which is used for statements of fact, such as He speaks English.

In Modern English, the subjunctive form of a verb often looks identical to the indicative form, and thus subjunctives are not a very visible grammatical feature of English. For most verbs, the only distinct subjunctive form is found in the third person singular of the present tense, where the subjunctive lacks the -s ending: It is necessary that he see a doctor (contrasted with the indicative he sees). However, the verb be has not only a distinct present subjunctive (be, as in I suggest that he be removed) but also a past subjunctive were (as in If he were rich, …).
