Mentor a student

When you mentor a student, you contribute to the development and success of an emerging professional by sharing your career and industry knowledge.

Who are mentors?

At VU, we consider mentors to be a more experienced person who assists another person to grow and learn by sharing their personal, career and transitioning experiences.

Mentors can assist students in becoming career ready by;

• exchanging career and industry knowledge and ideas
• sharing professional experiences over a coffee
• inviting your mentees to your workplace to explore the daily tasks and job realities, and
• generally assisting your mentees to develop confidence in their ability to make the transition to their professional working life easier.

Victoria University's mentoring programs are flexible and based on individual arrangements between the mentor and student mentees.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

We can promote your employment opportunities through our work participation and recruitment programs, including 'learning in the workplace' opportunities for our students through industry and community projects, co-operative education and internships.

You can engage our current students for WIL in a variety of ways:

• practical placements - structured workplace learning practical placements that prepare students for the workplace in particular discipline areas. These placements help students take classroom learnings and put them into practice in a workplace setting, eg. nursing practical placements in hospitals or clinics.
• industry or community organisation projects - individuals and groups of students undertake projects on behalf of organisations, eg. developing a database
• cooperative education - students are employed full-time by organisations to undertake work tasks or projects, eg. a junior accountant
• internships- students undertake short-term placements with an organisation to work on activities related to their course, eg. recreation student developing programs for a local municipality.
