Convection Demos
Convection appears in many systems in the universe. A heated fluid will expand, increasing the volume, and decreasing the density so the heated fluid floats in its surroundings. When cooled the fluid will sink in its surroundings. This movie highlights 2 demonstrations used in science class. Demo #1 is the Chimney Demo (a.k.a the RED SMOKER) while Demo #2 highlights special convection fluid be

Convection In Water
When the water at the bottom of the flask is heated, it expands. The expanded water is less dense than the surrounding water and therefore starts to rise. In doing so, the cooler regions of the water in the upper part of the flask, being denser, sink. This movement of the liquid due to a difference in its density sets up a convection current.
Convection currents occur only in fluids such as liq

Finally we believe that convection plays a role at the surface of the sun where its evidence is found in the granulation we see. This Video was originally posted 1 year ago and had 152 views. Convection is one of those words that we often hear used, but we may not completely understand its meaning. Weather forecasters show how convection currents are formed when warm and cold air masses meet in the atmosphere. Convection currents are responsible for warm water currents that occur in oceans. This activity demonstrates convection currents in a very colorful fashion.

This is an elementary science video that explains Convection of Heat for Grade 7-8 kids.
CONVECTION OF HEAT
Take a round-bottomed flask. Put some crystals of Potassium Permanganate in it. Pour water into the flask gently so as not to disturb the crystals much. Heat the flask gently.
Water molecules go up from the level of Potassium Permanganate reach the surface of the water and come down touching the sides of the flask.
After a few minutes the crystals of Potassium Permanganate dissolve in water making it coloured violet. The water at the bottom gets heated and expands. The density of water becomes less because of this expansion, therefore water becomes light and goes up to the top.
At the top the cool water which has more density comes down by the sides of the flask. You can observe that the colored water going up in the middle and coming down along the sides of the flask.
Molecules absorb heat go up and the cool molecules come down absorb heat and go up. In this way heat gets transferred from one place to another. This process is called convection of heat. The difference in the densities of different parts of the substance is responsible for the phenomenon of convection of heat.

Conduction is the transfer of heat between substances that are in direct contact with each other and it mainly happens in solids. The heat is conducted from atom to atom using the kinetic energy of the particles, in other words by vibrating. The better the conductor, the more rapidly heat will transfer. Have you ever noticed that metal benches tend to feel colder than a wooden ones? Believe it or not, they are not colder! They only feel colder because they conduct heat away from your bottom better than wood and you perceive the heat that is leaving your bum as cold. Metals are particularly good at conducting heat because of their free electrons that move about the structure colliding with the positive ions and transferring the kinetic energy to them. Convection happens in gases and liquids. As a gas or a liquid is heated, it warms, expands, and rises because it is less dense. When the gas or liquid cools, it becomes denser and falls. As the gas or liquid warms and rises, or cools and falls, it creates a convection current, which is what transfers the heat from one place to another. For example when you turn on your radiator, despite the name the room is heated by convection, as the air is heated above the radiator, it expands, rises and the cooler, denser air sinks causing a convection current around the room.

We are all clearly aware of some of the "nuances" that some of you have kindly, and might I add, not so kindly, pointed out. For those of you who are not teachers in primary education settings you must first teach concepts before expanding, elaborating, and teaching exceptions. For 8th grade purposes on the Common Core Standards this video is accurate and I believe extremely helpful for those who may need clarification on this challenging topic for that age group.
I would like to ask that people refrain from using any more vulgarity in the comment section.

Lyrics:
Chorus
There are three ways that heat can travel
But it can travel in any direction
From the sun it moves to the earth, quick as a shadow
And disperses in radiation, conduction, and convection
Verse I
First things first, let's discuss heat
What it is before you pay for it to warm your feet
Heat is the energy that flows when atoms and molecules move
It diffuses out toward coolness
Temperature is the measurement of
The average motion of these atoms
And molecules in the atmosphere
So there have it
Now, the first way of transportation of heat energy is radiation
Like sound waves from your radio stations
Filling the empty space around you
Your radiator warms you, but don't start a fire now, I warned you
Heat is going through radiation from the sun
Before it burns you from 93 million miles away
To re-radiate this heat is what the earth does for you
This is survival what this heat is going through
Before it rises to the sky and it's gone so...
Chorus
Verse II
Conduction is the second method on my list
You can feel it like a hot pot on your fist
With the handle gripped I bet you'd rather grab a candle lit
'Cause it's heat through conduction that causes this
Atoms in matter in a fixed position vibrate when heated
Like a pan in the kitchen
Transmit the heat energy to atoms next to them
That are cooler than they are to cause equilibrium
To even out the temperature the heat has to travel
Up the spoon in your tea in the morning with your bagel
It might burn your hand, but just learn the land of
conduction heat energy until you understand
The earth gains little from conduction
It's mostly radiation that helps us function and keeps us warm
It's just another way for heat to move
But now let's move on to method three to prove...
Chorus
Verse III
Convection is the movement of heat in liquids and gasses
To even out the temperature fastest
This process is called diffusion
It's a flow of particles cold and hot in a fluid
If you're not listening, then stop what you're doing
'Cause this final mode that heat can move in
And this affects you everyday
It's the breeze at your back and the wind at your face
When heat reaches the earth it rises at a rate
With the air in the place and it moves up till it cools
Trillions of molecules together
Make up the weather that we see on the news
It's how they measure the pressure of the air and the temperature
But convection is how it got there in the atmosphere
So don't be scared. Heat moves in three ways
So we made things clear, it's like...

Convection currents occur only in fluids such as liquids and
gases but not in solids.
This is because convection involves the bulk movement of the fluids which carry thermal energy with them. For solids, the thermal energy is transferred from one particle to another through vibrations, without any bulk movement of the particles themselves.

This experiment is a very graphic demonstration of convection currents. You need a big cardboard box, transparency, candle and a few incense sticks. Make two holes in the side of a cardboard box. Cut a large rectangular window in the front and stick a transparency. Stick black paper in the background. This will help you to see the path of smoke. Now roll two transparencies into small chimneys and press fit them in the holes of the box. The front of the box is a transparency and there is black paper in the background. Then light a flat candle and place it inside the box just below the left hand chimney. We know that a burning candle heats the air. And hot air being lighter will float up from the left chimney. As the hot air goes up from the left chimney it will draw in air from the right hand chimney. Now bring two lighted incense sticks near the right chimney. Soon the smoke from the sticks will be drawn in and you will be able to see swirling clouds of smoke going in the box. The smoke makes the air currents visible. The smoke will eventually exit from the left chimney. This work was supported by IUCAA and Tata Trust. This film was made by Ashok Rupner

BREVILLE SMART OVEN! Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven Convection Toaster Oven REVIEW??
Why the Breville Smart Oven?
Every Breville product begins with a simple moment of brilliance. The Breville Smart Oven began with the simple fact that different foods require different methods of heating: some, like baked goods, need to be cooked evenly; others, like meats, need to be seared on top. Most toaster ovens fail to distribute heat in a consistent way throughout their interiors, let alone change heat distribution to suit the different foods being prepared. This is how the Breville Smart Oven stands apart: whatever the food, it adjusts its heat distribution for perfect results.

Prof Gill talks to ecancertv at Children with Cancer UK’s workshop on Drug Delivery in Paediatric Brain Tumours in London, UK.
In the interview he discusses early clinical experience of intermittently delivering carboplatin directly to paediatric brainstem tumours using a novel implantable neurosurgical device.
The device consists of four very fine catheters that are implanted deep within the brain using a dedicated robotic technique.
Chemotherapeutic drugs can then be injected directly into the site the tumour via a technique called convection enhanced delivery (CED).
The device was originally developed for delivering a protein therapy to adults with Parkinson’s disease and is now being tested in children with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a tumour that is not amenable to surgical resection.

Dr Van Vuurden talks to ecancertv at Children with Cancer UK’s workshop on Drug Delivery in Paediatric Brain Tumours in London, UK.
In the interview he discusses convection-enhanced delivery (CED) of drugs to brain tumours in children.
CED is a relatively new technology that requires very fine and small catheters to be implanted in the brain that can then be used to delivery chemo- or other therapeutic agents. This method of drug delivery is particularly of interest for treating children with diffuse intrinstic pointine glioma (DIPG) who currently have few treatment options and could potentially benefit from local chemotherapy in the brainstem.

This lecture does an example of a constant heat flux problem. It then continuous with the development of the theory/equations to be used for the category of problems with a constant wall temperature in internal forced convection. It also shows the background for the derivation of the logarithmic mean temperature and why it rather should be used than the average temperature difference. The concept of the number of transfer units (NTU) is also highlighted. The lecture is Lecture 03 (2015) of 05 (2015) lectures on internal forced convection that was based on the textbook of Cengel and Ghajar (4th edition) and was presented as part of a heat transfer class to the fourth year students of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering by Prof Josua Meyer, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering of the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Lecture was presented on 25 March 2015.

This is a review I made for my blog: http://ilovereviewing.blogspot.com/
To watch the whole review, go to the blog post. This here is just the video on how I used it to make bread for the first time. And that way my review in the blog had a video too.
In this occasion I am reviewing the: "Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker"
I love this kitchen appliance because it makes it so easy to bake bread. This is the first time EVER that I make bread, and because Cuisinart is a trusting company, I felt confident that it would turn out well. Not so bad for my first try. Both my husband and I thought this was a great investment for our family well-being, since for us knowing what is in our food is very important, and there is nothing like making it yourself to be sure it is healthy and safe. Thank you Cuisinart for gathering a brilliant team that brings such handy kitchen appliances to our homes!
(The opinions in this video are my own, and this is my own experience with the product. It is not intended to make you buy the product, just to share our experience and at the end you can make your own judgement and decide for yourself.)
Update: Since we got this breadmaker, we don´t buy loafs of bread anymore. I have perfected this recipe by adding about 2 tablespoons of olive oil so that the bread keeps softer longer. When you remove the paddle, you can take the dough out and shape it into a ball and then just push it in the mold, this makes the shape better, and it makes it bigger too.
I highly recommend this product. Consider it an investment on the well being of your family. I have been wanting to buy Cake mix, and noticed that most of it has canola oil, or soy lechitin, and because: Corn, and soy can be GMO, it is way better to do the mix from scratch and the bread maker is awesome to help you with that. So good luck and I wish that this product serves everyone well at their homes. We know that we are very happy with it.

Forced and natural convection are 2 important types of analysis for analyzing temperature change coupled with fluid behavior. They are frequently encountered in electronic device design (ex: LED), when there is a need to investigate the air cooling performance and its influence on the external environment.
In this practice focused session, we will demonstrate step-by-step how to perform such analyses through a practical case of electronic cooling investigation.
Webinar Subjects:
1. Heat - flow coupled analysis
2. Natural and forced convection in CFD
3. CFD Model preparation
4. Workflow and analysis definition
