This video is a general overview of two microphones by the
Blue Microphone company, the
Spark & the
Spark Digital. I love these mics for simple, mid-budget microphones, so I figured that I'd do a review. These two mics are cardioid condenser microphones that are perfect for a home studio producer. This isn't an overly technical review, with all kinds of lab-testing of audio recordings.
I've just covered all the basics, and talked about mics in general. These microphone are more expensive than the most basic low-end condenser microphones out there (around $
200 to $250 each), but I feel that spending a bit of extra money is worth it, and you'll have pretty decent quality for whatever project you're working on.
I referred to a couple of audio files in the tutorial. Here's a download link to those files (plus a copy of "When I
Grow Old") which is a free download.
Right-click on this link to download a compressed folder in
RAR format. If you don't know how to unpack a
RAR archive, download WinRAR for windows, or if you have a
Mac, get a program like Unarchiver or UnRarX or Rar
Extractor or Rar
Expander or Zipeg:

Here's a link to another video that I mentioned, where I explained the basic audio editing that I was quickly doing in this microphone video:

Unfortunately, as of early 2015, YouTube annotations are still not visible to all mobile viewers. I use annotations quite frequently to post clarifications and additional information during the video. For the best educational experience, you might prefer to watch this video in a desktop browser rather than on mobile, unless YouTube eventually fixes the mobile annotation deficiency.
On a side note, I get a lot of requests from people who want me to review their DJ mixes. Unfortunately, I am extremely busy. I'm already turning down paid projects, and I don't have time to review mixes. I wish it was otherwise.
