Jacob "Jack" Kevorkian (/kᵻˈvɔːrkiən/; May 26, 1928 – June 3, 2011) was an American pathologist, euthanasia activist, painter, author, composer, and instrumentalist. He is best known for publicly championing a terminal patient's right to die via physician-assisted suicide; he claimed to have assisted at least 130 patients to that end. He was often portrayed in the media as "Dr. Death"; however, many consider him a hero as he helped set the platform for reform. He famously said, "Dying is not a crime."
In 1999, Kevorkian was arrested and tried for his direct role in a case of voluntary euthanasia. He was convicted of second-degree murder and served eight years of a 10-to-25-year prison sentence. He was released on parole on June 1, 2007, on condition he would not offer advice nor participate nor be present in the act of any type of suicide involving euthanasia to any other person; as well as neither promote nor talk about the procedure of assisted suicide.
As an oil painter and a jazz musician, Kevorkian marketed limited quantities of his visual and musical artwork to the public.
Dr. Jack is a 1922 comedy film starring Harold Lloyd. It was produced by Hal Roach and Directed by Fred Newmeyer. The story was by Jean Havez, Hal Roach, and Sam Taylor. The film was released on November 26, 1922.
Grossing $1,275,423, Dr. Jack was one of the top-ten most profitable releases of 1922.
The Sick-Little-Well-Girl (played by Mildred Davis) has been wrapped in cotton wool all her life. At the sign of the slightest sniffle or cough, she is packed off to bed and each time, the stuffy (and expensive) Dr Ludwig von Saulsbourg (Eric Mayne) is called to attend to her.
In another town lives Doctor Jackson (Harold Lloyd), a friendly and altruistic doctor who is liked by everyone in town. He utilises common sense when curing the citizens of any ills.
Soon, Doctor Jack discovers that von Saulsbourg has been playing on The Sick-Little-Well-Girl's non-illness, charging the girl's father exorbitant amounts of money to "treat" her. With Jack's intervention, von Saulsbourg is sent packing.
The right to die is a moral principle based on the belief that a human being is entitled to commit suicide or to undergo voluntary euthanasia. Possession of this right is often understood to mean that a person with a terminal illness should be allowed to commit suicide or assisted suicide or to decline life-prolonging treatment, where a disease would otherwise prolong their suffering to an identical result. The question of who, if anyone, should be empowered to make these decisions is often central to debate.
Proponents typically associate the right to die with the idea that one's body and one's life are one's own, to dispose of as one sees fit. However, a legitimate state interest in preventing irrational suicides is sometimes argued. Pilpel and Amsel write, "Contemporary proponents of 'rational suicide' or the 'right to die' usually demand by 'rationality' that the decision to kill oneself be both the autonomous choice of the agent (i.e., not due to the physician or the family pressuring them to 'do the right thing' and commit suicide) and a 'best option under the circumstances' choice desired by the stoics or utilitarians, as well as other natural conditions such as the choice being stable, not an impulsive decision, not due to mental illness, achieved after due deliberation, etc."
Retro Report is an Emmy-winning non-profit news organization that produces mini documentaries looking back on the biggest stories from the past to see how they affect today's news. The organization describes itself as a counterweight to the 24-hour news cycle. They have covered topics including the Population Bomb theory, the Tawana Brawley rape allegations, the 1993 Jack in the Box E. coli outbreak, the creation of Napster, the MMR vaccine controversy, the Ruby Ridge standoff, the Columbine High School massacre and the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit.
Retro Report's stories are distributed through their own website and also by The New York Times, where they are featured with an article written by longtime journalist Clyde Haberman. In a Poynter Institute for Media Studies article, Executive Producer Kyra Darnton, describes Retro Report's mission as providing, "context and perspective by going back and re-reporting and reanalyzing older stories, or stories that we think of as not relevant anymore.” In a 2014 Nieman Foundation for Journalism article, Ann Derry, The New York Times’ editorial director for video and television partnerships, said Retro Report's stories are "consistently among the most-watched pieces of video content at the Times." Since the series premiered on 6 May 2013, Retro Report has produced more than 60 documentaries.

Dr. Jack Kervorkian died at a hospital in Michigan at the age of 83. Known to many as "Dr. Death," Kevorkian devoted his life to a debate over life and death. But as Harry Smith reports, the supporters of physician assisted suicide think of him as a champion.
The dying Jack Kevorkian is trying to get his point across. The man known in the 20th century as Dr. Death marked the opening of his painting exhibition “The Doctor is Out,” at Armenian Library and Museum of America in Watertown by speaking largely about his run for Congress in his home state in Michigan.

Tyrone Davies’ IN CAMERA probes relationships between popular entertainment media, classic literature and dominant philosophical concepts of selfhood. Presenting an intentionally overstimulating array of video mashups, Davies’ installation simultaneously electrifies and oppresses the audience with equal parts absurd and meaningful discourse. In Davies’ work, such prose as Jean Paul Sartre’s No-Exit finds itself implanted within the popular sitcom Gilligan’s Island. The works of Samuel Beckett, Albert Camus, and Friedrich Nietzsche are injected into a mixture of Hollywood films, and Eastern meditative practices and commercial amusements vie for our attention via sports broadcasts—and just once in a while, Jack Kevorkian appears on a screen and begins to explain perception. He is in Pennsylvania—one of the three major states (Michigan and Louisiana) that required a subsequent Supreme Court ruling to allow juveniles committed to life imprisonment to have reconsideration.
