Mounted police are police who patrol on horseback or camelback. They continue to serve in remote areas and in metropolitan areas where their day-to-day function may be picturesque or ceremonial, but they are also employed in crowd control because of their mobile mass and height advantage and increasingly in the UK for crime prevention and high visibility policing roles. The added height and visibility that the horses give their riders allows officers to observe a wider area, but it also allows people in the wider area to see the officers, which helps deter crime and helps people find officers when they need them. Mounted police may be employed for specialized duties ranging from patrol of parks and wilderness areas, where police cars would be impractical or noisy, to riot duty, where the horse serves to intimidate those whom it is desired to disperse through its larger size, or may be sent in to detain trouble makers or offenders from the crowd. For example, in the UK, mounted police are most often seen at football matches, although they are also a common sight on the streets of many towns and cities as a visible police presence and crime deterrent during the day and night. Some mounted police units are trained in search and rescue due to the horse's ability to travel where vehicles cannot.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP; French: Gendarmerie royale du Canada (GRC), literally 'Royal Gendarmerie of Canada'; colloquially known as the Mounties, and internally as 'the Force') is both a federal and a national police force of Canada. The RCMP provides law enforcement at a federal level in Canada, and also on a contract basis to the three territories, eight of Canada's provinces (the RCMP does not provide provincial or municipal policing in either Ontario or Quebec), more than 190 municipalities, 184 aboriginal communities, and three international airports.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) was formed in 1920 by the merger of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (RNWMP, founded in 1873) with the Dominion Police (founded 1868). The former was originally named the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), and was given the Royal prefix by King Edward VII in 1904. Much of the present day organization's symbolism has been inherited from its days as the NWMP and RNWMP, including the distinctive Red Serge uniform, paramilitary heritage, and mythos as a frontier force. The RCMP/GRC wording is specifically protected under the Trade-marks Act.
The Household Cavalry (HCav) is made up of the two most senior regiments of the British Army, the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons). These regiments are divided between the Armoured Regiment stationed at Combermere Barracks in Windsor and the ceremonial mounted unit, the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, garrisoned at Hyde Park Barracks (Knightsbridge Barracks) in London. The Household Cavalry is part of the Household Division and is the Queen's official bodyguard.
The British Household Cavalry is classed as a corps in its own right, and consists of two regiments: the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons). They are the senior regular regiments in the British Army, with traditions dating from 1660, and act as the Queen's personal bodyguard. They are guards regiments and, with the five foot guard regiments, help constitute the seven guards regiments of the Household Division.

The Queen will be guarded by non-British, non-military force for the first time ever today, as the traditional Household Cavalry step aside for Stetson-wearing Canadian Mounties. The 15-strong delegation Royal Canadian Mounted Police have undergone rigorous training by a senior member of the Household Cavalry in preparation for their prestigious task. Wearing their distinctive wide-brimmed Stetson hats, the Mounties will wear their navy blue uniform and ties and carry lances instead of swords in their right hands. They will perform the guard on Wednesday and Friday this week. It is the first time a foreign, non-military force has ever been given the honour of guarding the Queen. The move, granted with special permission in the run-up to the Diamond Jubilee festivities, is intended to celeb...

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will now allow its female Muslim officers to wear the hijab as part of its official uniform. Canada has expressed hope that this decision will help to reflect the diversity of Canada, as well as encourage more Muslim women to join the “Mounties,” as the police force is called. The decision by the RCMP follows similar uniform policy changes made to Canadian police services in Toronto and Edmonton, as well as in police forces throughout the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, and the United States. In the late 1980s, Baltej Singh Dhillo, a Sikh RCMP recruit had put petition asking Canadian government to allow the turban worn by Sikh men to be included in the Mountie uniform. In 1990, the government accepted the change. Newzstreet TV Videos - Dedicated to...
