Vincent Edward Scully (born November 29, 1927) is an American sportscaster, known primarily as the play-by-play voice of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team on Prime Ticket, KCAL-TV and KABC radio. His 63 seasons with the Dodgers (1950–present) is the longest of any broadcaster with a single club in professional sports history, and he is second by a year to only Tommy Lasorda in terms of length of years with the Dodgers organization in any capacity.
Born in The Bronx, Scully grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. He made ends meet by delivering beer and mail, pushing garment racks, and cleaning silver in the basement of the Pennsylvania Hotel in New York City. His father was a silk salesman; his mother a Roman Catholic homemaker of Irish descent with red hair like her son. Scully attended high school at Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx. He knew he wanted to be a sports announcer the moment he became fascinated with football broadcasts on his radio.
Scully began his career as a student broadcaster and journalist at Fordham University. While at Fordham, he helped found its FM radio station WFUV (which now presents a Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award each year), was assistant sports editor for Volume 28 of The Fordham Ram his senior year, sang in a barbershop quartet, played center field for the Fordham Rams baseball team, called radio broadcasts for Rams baseball, football, and basketball, got a degree, and sent about 150 letters to stations along the Eastern seaboard. He got only one response, from CBS Radio affiliate WTOP in Washington, which made him a fill-in.

Vin Scully Honors Late Yogi Berra with Touching Tribute
Baseball great Yogi Berra died September 22 at the age of 90. As the baseball world reacted to the terrible news, legendary announcer Vin Scully gave a touching tribute to the 10-time World Series champion before the Los Angeles Dodgers game Wednesday night.
Surprise Style Commercial
Scully also noted that Dodgers manager Don Mattingly, who normally wears a blue pullover during games, was wearing No. 8 in honor of one of the greatest characters of the game.
"As long as people talk about the game, whenever they mention the name Yogi Berra, they will smile because he was that kind of a human being."

Baseball broadcasting icon Vin Scully (USA) was officially recognised for having the Longest career as a sports broadcaster for a single team, having been behind the mic for an incredible 65 years 5 months and 22 days (as of 23 September).
Known for his distinctive lyrical yet simple play-by-play descriptions, the legend has been announcing the Los Angeles Dodgers games since 1 April 1950 when the team were based in New York as the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Before Wednesday’s game between the Dodgers and the Arizona Diamonds kicked off, Guinness World Records adjudicator Alex Angert entered the stadium and presented the long-serving broadcaster with a certificate.

...oF COURSE I AM A FAN of scully (who isn't?) , albeit Bill Handel is a
different matter. He almost seems like a manic/depressive at times. There's
times when he really shines bright and is funny and cheerful, but other
times he becomes cranky and also at times vulgar. and sometimes he is
just irrationally rude to callers on his legal program. He's just too
unpredictable for me.
