Today on LonsTV, Lon looks at the 1995 mystery-thriller "Just Cause," starring Sean Connery, Blair Underwood, Lawrence Fishburne and Ed Harris. The mvoie's a pretty standard legal thriller, like you'd expect from one of those '90s post-Grisham books that got adapted into one of those '90s post-Grisham movies. (It also clearly owes a debt to "Silence of the Lambs," with its whole "interview a serial killer" subplot). Lon also apologizes for missing an episode of LonsTV yesterday, but noted that the Internet somehow seemed to pull itself up and keep going. So he's not really going to sweat it. Based on the video game series, now on its second installment! A long time request and a movie I wouldn't mind seeing myself. - The song is Malaguena performed by Brian Setzer from the soundtrack to Once Upon a Time in Mexico. - The story follows CIA agent extraordinaire Rico Rodriguez as he's sent to hot spots around the world to do what he does best: topple oppressive regimes by utterly destroying every facet of them in spectacular stunt-filled feats of daring. He accomplishes his mission primarily with two devices, a parachute and a grappling gun, but armed with these he can snag passing helicopters, base jump without fear, trip up opponents, and generally avoid capture while ruining the opposition. Not only is Rico hispanic which is unusual for a video game hero but he also sports a crucifix and even performs the sign of the cross which intrigued me. If directed right (say by Rober Rodriguez) this movie could be like Desparado meets Die Hard if the two were blended with The Rundown and the upcoming movie The Expendables. It could really be a thrill to see, introduce new stunts never seen, and finally be a film with the guts to show a hero without super powers toppling an honest to goodness regime. Why? Just cause (couldn't resist)
