Abu Khaliyl Jadd '
Abdullah Sylvester (
Tony Salvatore Sylvester), is an
American who
was born near
Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA in 1966. He accepted
Islam in the mid
1980's, and after studying with various teachers and shaykhs, and founded and published
books for the non-profit da'wah organization Ad-Da'wah to Laa ilaaha illallaah wa
Muhammadur-Rasoolullaah in Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA. Then began working
with al-Qur'an was-Sunnah
Society of
North America in the early 90's with
Muhammad Al-Jibaly who was its chairman at the time.
He authored, translated, or worked in editing on every publication published by the nonprofit
charitable organization al-Qur'an was-Sunnah Society of North America until
1999. During that period, he also held the position of chief content editor for HUDAA
published out of
New York. During that period he also worked on the popular da'wah
book; "A Brief Illustrated
Guide to
Understanding Islam."
In August of 1999 he relocated to
Riyadh,
KSA, to begin work at the head office of
Darussalam Publications. He resided there for two years, and aside from other
publications produced during that period, his main responsibility was chief editor for the
publication of the Tafsir
Ibn Kathir (10 volumes) under the supervision of Shaykh Safiur-
Rahman al-Mubarakpuri, may Allah have mercy with him. Abu Khaliyl's duties on
that project included the responsibility of abridging the
Arabic text, removing all of the
weak hadiths of the Tafsir, as well as correcting and editing the entire translation.
After the completion of the Tafsir, he returned to the
United States and founded the nonprofit
charitable organization Dar al-Kitab wal Hikmah in
Mobile, Alabama. He
continues working full time for Darussalam Publications.
Abu Khaliyl is the author, editor, or translator of many books, booklets, and articles,
some of which may be seen at the website for Dar al-Kitab wal Hikmah (www.dkhislam.
com), and he has many on-going projects that include both translations and
compilations. His free
English language da'wah booklet "The
Pillars of Faith in the
Religion of Islam" has been printed many times, and is also translated in
Spanish,
French,
and
Italian.
