Glastonbury Fayre is a 1972 documentary film directed by Nicolas Roeg and Peter Neal of the 1971 Glastonbury Festival (known then as the Glastonbury Fair) which was held on 20–24 June 1971.
The film is the first attempt to document the Glastonbury Festival which in 1971 was in its second year. Glastonbury Fayre is notable for being photographed by Nicolas Roeg and being one of the first films produced by David Puttnam. The film is a mix of performances from the likes of Arthur Brown and Fairport Convention, as well as scenes of festival-goers enjoying the festival. It does not feature any footage of David Bowie, who played at dawn; but he is on the soundtrack.
An album of performances from the festival, Revelations: Glastonbury Fayre, was also released in 1972 and has since become a rare collectors' item; however, it features no performances in common with the film. The film received a VHS release during the 1990s but has since been deleted. A DVD of the film was released with the CD edition of the Akarma reissue of the album. A four-minute clip of the film featured on the extras of the 2005 Glastonbury Anthems DVD. An 87-minute DVD of Glastonbury Fayre is available.
Glastonbury Fayre is a triple album released in 1972, comprising performances by acts who had appeared at the Glastonbury Festival in 1971 (see Festival line-up 1971) and others. The album came in a fold-out poster sleeve inside a printed PVC outer sleeve, with a 32 page illustrated booklet, a poster sheet and a fold-out Silver Pyramid, all designed by Barney Bubbles.
Although most of the performances are live, not all were recorded at the Festival. The track contributed by Grateful Dead (titled "Dark Star....bury" for this compilation) is a version of Dark Star recorded at the Empire Pool, Wembley, London on April 8, 1972 (during the band's Europe '72 tour). The group was widely rumoured to be due to appear at the Festival but did not. Studio demo recordings were contributed by Marc Bolan and Pete Townshend, who did not appear at the event, and by David Bowie, who did.
There are some variations in the production of the record set; there are differences in the colours printed on the labels, some copies have dark green labels with yellow and red and lighter green labels with white and red Revelation logo; some have yellow lettering and others black writing. Later pressings stated what Revelation Productions had done with the monies collected from earlier pressings.

Glastonbury /ˈɡlæstənbri/ is a small town in Somerset, England, situated at a dry point on the low-lying Somerset Levels, 23 miles (37 km) south of Bristol. The town, which is in the Mendip district, had a population of 8,932 in the 2011 census. Glastonbury is less than 1 mile (2 km) across the River Brue from Street, which is now larger than Glastonbury.
Evidence from timber trackways such as the Sweet Track show that the town has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Glastonbury Lake Village was an Iron Age village, close to the old course of the River Brue and Sharpham Park approximately 2 miles (3 km) west of Glastonbury, that dates back to the Bronze Age. Centwine was the first Saxon patron of Glastonbury Abbey, which dominated the town for the next 700 years. One of the most important abbeys in England, it was the site of Edmund Ironside's coronation as King of England in 1016. Many of the oldest surviving buildings in the town, including the Tribunal, George Hotel and Pilgrims' Inn and the Somerset Rural Life Museum, which is based in an old tithe barn, are associated with the abbey. The Church of St John the Baptist dates from the 15th century.
