Rupert Parkes (born 1972), known as Photek, is a Los Angeles–based British record producer, film & TV composer, and electronic music DJ.
Photek has contributed music to several film, TV and video game productions as far back as Blade in 1998. He also scored Fox Television's Gang Related (Imagine Entertainment) with director Allen Hughes.
He received three consecutive Grammy Award nominations in the category of Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical were for Daft Punk "End of Line" from the Tron: Legacy movie soundtrack in 2012, Moby "Lie Down In Darkness" in 2013 and Bob Marley "One Love/People Get Ready" in 2014.
Photek is currently the composer on the show How to Get Away with Murder (ABC).
Initially interested in hip hop, Parkes soon expanded his style with elements of Soul and Jazz. His first instrument was a tenor saxophone, but when a piano arrived in the family home his focus shifted to composition as opposed to performance. By 1992 he had switched from the saxophone to a sequencer. Within the next year he started to perform under the stage name Photek.

Following recent sessions with Ben UFO and Jamie Lidell, FACT TV went record shopping with drum'n'bass trendsetter Photek. Having started releasing records again in 2011 after several years of dormancy, the artist behind classics like 'UFO' and Modus Operandi took us to Soho's BM (Black Market) to talk about record shopping in his current home of Hollywood, his favourite soundtracks, first meeting Goldie and how Black Market was where it all started for him. Interviewed by Clare Considine, filmed by Anoushka Seigler, Pawel Ptak and Kamil Dymek

It was one of the most eagerly anticipated albums of its era, at least among those interested in all that was new and vigorous in underground music. By the time it arrived, its maker – real name Rupert Parkes – was already well established as a unique talent in drum ‘n bass. For three years he’d been evolving his sound, a sound rooted in deft, fanatically detailed drum programming that is as mind-blowing today as it was in the mid-90s – Burial is but one contemporary producer to have expressed his awe for the texture, swing and precision of Parkes’ percussion. Photek is Rupert Parkes (born 1972, St Albans, England), a Los Angeles-based British record producer and DJ. He joined the drum and bass scene relatively early (his first release was in 1992, a collaboration with Rob Solomon a.k.a. Lexis), and is still one of its most respected players. In the mid-to-late Nineties he was a very active remixer, and he has also done some soundtrack work, most notably for The Animatrix.

You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh can't you tell by the way I run
Evertime you make eyes at me
You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees
So don't get me wrong, it's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me
Yeah and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person, place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me
So goodbye, I'll be leaving,
I see no sense in crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer,
