THINGS TO DO IN OSLO NORWAY VLOG vv More Info Down Here vv
We Explore 11 Cool Things To Do in Oslo in Norway. In this vlog we do a full day of exploring the city of Oslo by foot.
We start off at City Box Hotel and head to StockFleth's Cafe for breakfast where we meet a very miserable Barista. Despite the bad start to the morning we head to Oslo Central Station to buy some picnic lunch for later, see some Scandinavian seagulls and then walk to the Oslo Opera House to take some photos.
Afterwards we go to the Baserene Arches and the Oslo Cathedral to hear the Organ being tuned.
The next step on our journey saw us walking past the Oslo University, we hear some Jazzy tunes while walking to the National Theater and then onward to the royal Palace to hug some trees and have a little picnic.
Then things get a little 'wild' as we take on The Harbour Promenade walk all the way to the Viking museum via the trendy Aker Brygge. We see some really cool ancient boats and tools before coming back to town for a delicious coffee at a Kafe in town.
At the end of it all our feet were saw but we got to experience some really cool things to do in Oslo :-)

Oslo
Oslo (English pronunciation: /ˈɒzloʊ/, OZ-loh,Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈuʂˈlu] (

Oslo constitutes both a county and a municipality. Founded in the year 1040, and established as a "kaupstad" or trading place in 1048 by King Harald III, the city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V around 1300. Personal unions with Denmark from 1397 to 1523 and again from 1536 to 1814 and with Sweden from 1814 to 1905 reduced its influence. After being destroyed by a fire in 1624, the city was moved closer to Akershus Fortress during the reign of King Christian IV and renamed Christiania in his honour. It was established as a municipality (formannskapsdistrikt) on 1 January 1838. Following a spelling reform, it was known as Kristiania from 1877 to 1925, at which time its original Norwegian name was restored.
Oslo is the economic and governmental centre of Norway. The city is also a hub of Norwegian trade, banking, industry and shipping. It is an important centre for maritime industries and maritime trade in Europe. The city is home to many companies within the maritime sector, some of which are among the world's largest shipping companies, shipbrokers and maritime insurance brokers. Oslo is a pilot city of the Council of Europe and the European Commission intercultural cities programme.

In this vlog we do a full day of exploring the city of Oslo by foot. We start off at City Box Hotel and head to StockFleth's Cafe for breakfast where we meet a very miserable Barista. Despite the bad start to the morning we head to Oslo Central Station to buy some picnic lunch for later, see some Scandinavian seagulls and then walk to the Oslo Opera House to take some photos. Afterwards we go to the Baserene Arches and the Oslo Cathedral to hear the Organ being tuned. The next step on our journey saw us walking past the Oslo University, we hear some Jazzy tunes while walking to the National Theater and then onward to the royal Palace to hug some trees and have a little picnic. Then things get a little 'wild' as we take on The Harbour Promenade walk all the way to the Viking museum via the trendy Aker Brygge. We see some really cool ancient boats and tools before coming back to town for a delicious coffee at a Kafe in town. We Explore 11 Cool Things To Do in Oslo in Norway. In this vlog we do a full day of exploring the city of Oslo by foot.
We start off at City Box Hotel and head to StockFleth's Cafe for breakfast where we meet a very miserable Barista. Despite the bad start to the morning we head to Oslo Central Station to buy some picnic lunch for later, see some Scandinavian seagulls and then walk to the Oslo Opera House to take some photos.
Afterwards we go to the Baserene Arches and the Oslo Cathedral to hear the Organ being tuned.
The next step on our journey saw us walking past the Oslo University, we hear some Jazzy tunes while walking to the National Theater and then onward to the royal Palace to hug some trees and have a little picnic.
Then things get a little 'wild' as we take on The Harbour Promenade walk all the way to the Viking museum via the trendy Aker Brygge. We see some really cool ancient boats and tools before coming back to town for a delicious coffee at a Kafe in town.
At the end of it all our feet were saw but we got to experience some really cool things to do in Oslo :-)

Karl Johans gate is the main walking street of Oslo. It stretches from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) on one side, to the Royal Palace (Slottet) on the other. Btw. "Karl Johans gate" literally means "Karl Johan's Street". The Visit Oslo tourist information office is located at the east side of Oslo Central Station. On the place outside of the station (Jernbanetorget) there is a clock tower called Trafikanten, which houses the Public Transportation Information office. Off the beaten path, but right at the center of Oslo is the river that divides Oslo into east and west. Akerselva starts at Maridalsvannet lake in the north of Oslo, and discharges into the Oslo Fjord, right behind the Oslo Opera. Despite being a much used green area by Oslo locals, not many tourists find their way to Akerselva. The area around the lowest parts of Akerselva is called Vaterland, and is right behind of Oslo Central Station. Grünerløkka is one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Oslo, a hipster paradise a 10 minute walk from Central Station. Surprisingly few tourists visit Grünerløkka, and that's really a pity. Top Sightseeing locations to visit in Oslo, Norway. Including Downtown Oslo, The Royal Castle, museums, Vigelandsparken, Holmenkollen, and more.

The Oslo Opera:
Do this one! The opera building is adjacent to the central station, and it's awesome. It's architecture is like walking on an iceberg, and it overlooks the Oslo fjord and Akershus Castle. Doesn't take much time.
Karl Johans gate:
The main walking street that connects Central Station (Oslo S) with the Royal Castle. I guess it's a must when you come to Oslo. You can't avoid it, and you shouldn't! Because it's the main street of Oslo. But Karl Johan is mostly for the tourists, beggars, scammers. People that live in Oslo, like me, hardly ever go there.
Royal Castle:
It's quite small compared to other royal castles because Norway was a poor country when it was built. But it's still a nice place to walk through on your way to Bogstadveien or to spend half an hour.
Akershus Castle:
This is a nice medieval castle at the center of Oslo, overlooking the Oslo fjord, and Aker brygge. Very nice for sunsets, and after a day in Oslo sentrum or Aker Brygge. There is also a free military museum and a cheap WWII resistance museum here.
Aker Brygge:
These are the Oslo docks which have been redeveloped into a posh private restaurant/bar/shopping area. Nice for a walk, and plenty of places to sit down and watch people or the magnificent view of Akershus Castle. There's also a modern art museum here if that's your thing. If you do go to the modern art museum, be sure go all the way to the top terrace, where you find an even better view of Aker Brygge, the fjord and Akershus Castle.
Museum Island/Peninsula (Bygdøy):
This is where most of the museums are, including the Viking Ship Museum, Kon Tiki, Maritime Museum, Folk Museum. But be aware that it takes a day, and it's quite a detour, there's not much else to do there. If I had to pick one, I would do the Viking Ship museum and maybe the adjacent Folk Museum.
Vigelandsparken/Frognerparken:
This sculpture park is very good, and very large. During summer this is a continuous party/BBQ, but in wintertime you will find mostly joggers and dog walkers. Do this park if naked stone people are your thing. Pro tip: The Oslo City museum is in the park, and its FREE!
Holmenkollen/Frognerseteren:
Holmenkollen is a giant ski-jump on a mountain overlooking Oslo. There is also the ski-museum and ski-stuff around here. Metro line 1 runs all the way to Frognerseteren and there is a cafe/restaurant close to the wilderness where you can overlook Oslo.
Ekebergåsen:
This is a lookout point close to Oslo, overlooking the city. If you are thinking of going to Frognerseteren for the view only, you should go here instead. Much closer to the city, so you get a better view and travel time is less, this is a nice spot to watch the sunset.
Some Pro Tips:
If you want to see "the fjord" for cheap, go to the beginning of Aker Brygge, and take the ferry (B10) to Nesodden and back again (don't get of). You will have a great view of Akershus Castle, Aker Brygge, numerous islands and the fjord.
The "RuterReise" app for live public transportation time tables or planning, or just use Google maps, there's another "RuterBillett" app for purchasing tickets with a credit card on your phone, but I think it's only in Norwegian. Then there is the https://ruter.no/en/ website for trip planning.
Uber app, works quite well, and is half price of normal taxi

The unique capital city of the Vikings is full of both culture and sport, including a royal castle, various museums, ancient churches and world famous sporting events. It has 900 years of history.
The conference rooms of the city's government are decorated with frescos and paintings by Munch, Krogh, Revold and Rolfsen and each year on the 10th of December, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony takes place.

The conference rooms of the city's government are decorated with frescos and paintings by Munch, Krogh, Revold and Rolfsen and each year on the 10th of December, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony takes place.
West of the harbor basin is Aker Brygge, a city quarter that was created on the site of a former shipyard and which features some unusual architecture where glass, metal and red brick dominates as in the style of London's Docklands.

If you arrived in Oslo City with a Cruise ship this is
most likely the first attraction you pass by.
Oslo Central Station Square at the "bottom" of
the Oslo's "Main Street" Karl Johans Gate.

Further up in Oslo's Karl Johans Gate you pass
by where Norway's Parliament right in the center of

Oslo's City hall is next stop on the bus Tour
where the whole building (Oslo City Hall that is)
essentially is an art work.
All with artists mainly from Oslo Norway.
Passing the Norwegian Royal Palace the trip goes to
the Vigeland Park which lies in Frogner, one of
Oslo's more expensive areas to live.
The Vigeland Park came to be when the City of Oslo
Norway commissioned the Sculpture Artist Gustav Vigeland to
to build the park. And In so doing Oslo got the
largest Sculpture arrangement dedicated to one artist in

After the Vigelan Park the we go on to visit Bygdøy -
which is the Part of Oslo City where you find a lot

Karl Johans gate is the main walking street of Oslo. It stretches from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) on one side, to the Royal Palace (Slottet) on the other. Bt...
Karl Johans gate is the main walking street of Oslo. It stretches from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) on one side, to the Royal Palace (Slottet) on the other. Btw. "Karl Johans gate" literally means "Karl Johan's Street".
The Visit Oslo tourist information office is located at the east side of Oslo Central Station. On the place outside of the station (Jernbanetorget) there is a clock tower called Trafikanten, which houses the Public Transportation Information office.
The lower parts of Karl Johan, and especially the first intersecting street, Skippergata, is infamous for junkies and street prostitution.
The second intersection street is Dronningens gate (The Queen's street). Here there is a small shopping center Arkaden. Also in Dronningens gate is Kirkeristen, which houses a few cafes and shops, and two kebab joints, Carmel Grill and Dronningens Kebab. The latter one is particularly good.
On top of Kirkeristen, in the next street which intersects Karl Johan there is a church. It is here that Norwegian royal weddings take place. Outside of the church is the site where the sea of flowers was created, following the 2011 Norway terror attacks.
Your can find all the regular chain stores in Karl Johan, but there are also some Norwegian designer shops like the Moods of Norway - Super Duper Store. There is a also a regular department store Steen & Strøm.
There are a few pubs in Karl Johan, the largest and most well known in the middle of Karl Johan is Scotsman.
I consider Egertorget to be the center of Karl Johan. Around here there is the luxury shopping mall Eger Shopping, a few restaurants and cafes, and the fast food chain Max. For some cheap beer and metal music, head down to the bar Rock In which is located slightly off Egertorget in Øvre Slottsgate.
The next intersecting street, Akersgata, houses a few luxury stores, and the record store Råkk & Rålls. A few hundred meters up Akersgata is the former government building which was destroyed in the 2011 Oslo terror attacks. Now, there is a small museum in there: 22. juli-senteret (the July 22nd center), which is free of charge.
Passed Akersgata is the parliament building, the small square called Dasslokket (the toilet lid), and the Grand Hotel.
After the parliament building there is a park called Spikersuppa (The Nail Soup), a series of restaurants including T.G.I Fridays and Hard Rock Cafe. There is also a shopping center called Paleet. Around the corner of Hard Rock Cafe, in Universitetsgaten (The University Street), there is a legendary rock joint called Last Train. And at the end of Universitetsgaten, towards the harbor, is Oslo City Hall and the National Theater.
A bit further down Karl Johan, opposite of the National Theater is Universitetsplassen (The University Place), which houses the Faculty of Law of the University of Oslo.
At the very end of Karl Johans gate is the Royal Palace. It is possible to enter parts of the Royal Palace. You enter in the back, and it costs 135 NOK. Off the beaten path, but right at the center of Oslo is the river that divides Oslo into east and west. Akerselva starts at Maridalsvannet lake in the north of Oslo, and discharges into the Oslo Fjord, right behind the Oslo Opera. Despite being a much used green area by Oslo locals, not many tourists find their way to Akerselva.
The area around the lowest parts of Akerselva is called Vaterland, and is right behind of Oslo Central Station. The Vaterland area isn’t particularly nice as there are some shady characters hanging around there, but it’s safe to walk there at daytime.
Above Vaterland the river passes to the west of Grünerløkka. Around the two bridges Nybrua and Ankerbrua, there are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants. There are also some interesting houses along the river, like Hausmania, which is a squatted house that has turned into kind of a culture house.
Adjacent to Hausmania are some of the most popular east side venues, Blå and Ingensteds. They are cafes during the daytime and bars/nightclubs at nighttime. The area around Blå is also popular for the many graffiti murals, and for the Sunday flee-market.
Next up is Mathallen, Oslo Food Court. At Mathallen there are a number of restaurants and bars, like Smelteverket (The Smelter) which is at the basement of Mathallen, by the river. Also by Mathallen is Dansens hus, National stage for dance.
At the opposite side of the river from Mathallen there is an old grain silo which has been converted into student apartments. By the silo, which is on the Grünerløkka side of the river, is the most famous coffee shop in Oslo, Tim Wendelboe. It's a coffee roastery, espresso bar, and a coffee school.
Upstream there is an area of Akerselva called Kuba, where there is a park called Kubaparken. In the park there is a bar, Fyrhuset Kuba, meaning the Lighthouse.
Above Kuba is an old suspension bridge, Åmot bru, by a scenic waterfall. There is an even larger waterfall a ten minute walk up-river. It’s called Vøyenfossen, and there are a few venues around there: Wallmans, Hønse-Lovisas hus and Månefisken.
A few kilometers up, at the north of Oslo is Nydalen. Akerselva runs through Nydalen. Nydalen Bryggeri og Spiseri is a good gastro pub and brewery by the river, and if you are staying at the Radisson Blu hotel in Nydalen, this is a nice option.
There are a few dams where you can swim in Akerselva, at the north of Nydalen is one of them. A more scenic dam is Frysja, which is a few kilometers north, closer to the rivers source. The dam is also known as Brekkedammen.

Grünerløkka is one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Oslo, a hipster paradise a 10 minute walk from Central Station. Surprisingly few tourists visit Grünerløkka, and that's really a pity. Some of the nicest cafes and bars in Oslo are located in Grünerløkka, and it's a foodies paradise.
The main street of Grünerløkka is Thorvald Meyers gate. Thorvald Meyers gate starts where Ankerbrua brigde crosses Akerselva river, and ends at Birkelunden park in the north. Tram lines 11, 12 and 13 have three stops along Thorvald Meyers gate. From south to north:
Schous plass
Olaf Ryes plass
Birkelunden
Most of the shops, bars, restaurants and cafes on Grünerløkka are located around the Birkelunden and Olaf Ryes plass parks, and in the segment of Thorvald Meyers gate that is connecting them.
The street parallel to Thorvald Meyers gate, closer to Akerselva river, is Markveien. The lower parts of Markveien houses many quirky shops and vintage boutiques. There are also a few cafes and bars, like Espresso House and the Brewdog pub.
The area by Akerselva around Blå is a particularly beautiful part of the river. It is known for it's grafitti and industrial style. There are a few bars/cafes here, and Blå is also one of the best nightclubs in Oslo.
Also by Akerselva river is the Oslo Food Court (Mathallen). Unlike other shops in Oslo which must remain closed on Sundays, Mathallen is allowed to stay open.
