Quotes:
Dylan Mee: It's like he was expelling me for my artwork.::Benjamin Mee: I can live almost with the artwork. I mean, if Charles Manson needed a personal muralist, you'd be the guy.
[Dylan sees letters that spells "If you love me, let me know" on the store window, and decides to run towards Lily's cabin]::Dylan Mee: 20 seconds of courage. 20 seconds of courage. Okay. Okay. [knocks on Lily's window. She squeals a disturbed noise, turns around and sees him. She walks to the window and opens it]::Lily Miska: Hi.::Dylan Mee: Hi. Look, am I nuts to say that I missed you like crazy a lot? A lot! [Lily shakes her head] I was... I wasn't named after Bob Dylan. I was named after a dog named Dylan.::Lily Miska: [laughs] I don't really care. Who cares. Sorry about the rain.::Dylan Mee: No, I love it. I love your hair, I love your sign, Lily, I love you. [Lily stops laughing the moment he says the word "you". They look at each other for a while, then smile before they move in for a hug through the window opening]
Benjamin Mee: You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.
Duncan Mee: I like the animals. I love the people.
Lily Miska: [to Kelly during the opening of the zoo] If you had to choose between people and animals, who would you pick?::[Kelly doesn't answer]::Lily Miska: Me, too. People!
Rosie Mee: [as Walter Ferris is finalizing his inspection] You know, everybody here thinks you're a dick. I don't know what that means, but I don't think that.
Benjamin Mee: You seem really calm.::Peter MacCready: Ah.::Benjamin Mee: Have you been drinking?::Peter MacCready: All night long.::Benjamin Mee: Thanks for that.::Peter MacCready: Anytime.
Benjamin Mee: Their happy is too loud.
Benjamin Mee: Why would an amazing woman like you even talk to someone like me?::Katherine Mee: Why not?
Kelly Foster: If I wanted to be kissed by you, you wouldn't have a choice.

[as the dead bank robbers are rolled away from the scaffold]::Van Damm: Those sons of bitches stole all the money in town!::Jake: They ain't givin' it back now.

Plot: When a marriage of convenience becomes the real thing, Joe moves his pregnant French wife to a tenement building on New York's Lower East Side. The street is like a war zone with none of the nostalgic appeal that Joe remembers from tales of his immigrant grandparents arriving in the same neighborhood with a new life. This is the urban frontier filled with comic mixture of gentrifies, homeboys, dealers and local residents simply bent on staying a float.

Quotes:
[Harley brings take-out food to Gus while he's at work at Spaulding]::Gus: Thank you. My favorite kind of food - the kind that sweats in the bag before you open it.
[Later, the two of them discuss their day]::Harley: Did you buy or seel any small countries today?::Gus: No, that's tomorrow at 4.
[Blake explains why she thinks Gus is already investigating the missing persons case that Harley's Angels is handling]::Harley: Great. Then we'll be on the same track.::Blake: No. You'll be on separate, parallel tracks.::Harley: Is this some sort of, 'If train A is going somewhere and train B . . .'
Rick: I'm pregnant! I'm pregnant! Well, I'm not. My wife is. I'm just overweight.
Alan: Alexandra, you look like you've been frightened badly.::Buzz: You look radiant.::Alex: Thank you. I was out taking a ride on Buzz's sow.::Buzz: Hog.::Alex: Whatever.
Harley: Susan, I don't know whether to hug you or strangle you.::Susan Lemay #2: Kill me, I'd feel better.
Dinah: Do you know how sick and twisted I am? I'd just like to explain it to you. I have played Princess Cassie for so long that I actually started to believe I was her. That everything she had should be mine. And at the same time, I hated her for taking everything, everything that should be mine in my dream. So being her and hating her is what my life has become. That's who I am. And I didn't see that until last night. And I am nothing without Cassie.::Bill: Stop it. Listen to me. Listen to me. That's the whiskey talking. That is not you.::Dinah: No. It is.::Bill: No, it isn't.::Dinah: Bill, I saw it in your eyes and I saw it in Daddy's eyes when you guys did not care, you were very excited to pack me off to Italy, so you could keep me away from Cassie and she could go on with her life.::Bill: You know what? This is what it's all about. It's you getting a fresh start. That's what you need. That's all you need, Dinah.::Dinah: She has everything that I have ever wanted, and I have needed that to stay alive.
Edmund: Dinah, why are you stalking me?::Edmund: Stalking you? [laughs] Okay, so obviously I am not the only one that is hitting the bourbon so early in the morning.
Dinah: Well, don't you want to hear my tale of woe?::Edmund: Dinah, I don't have time to hear it right now.::Dinah: Oh, okay. Well, just kick me to the kerb, like everybody else has. It's cool.::Edmund: Look, Dinah, I've been where you are, wanting to live someone else's life, willing to do just about anything to have it. It's no good. It doesn't work. My obsession with my brother Richard cost me everything I cared about. I hate to see you make the same mistake.::Dinah: My whole life's been a mistake, Eddie.::Edmund: It's not a mistake, Dinah. Take it from someone who's been there. Your life hasn't even begun yet.
[confronting Harley about her goodbye letter to him]::Gus: Oh, so this is nice. This is like a "Dear John" letter. You're going to kiss me off with a letter?::Harley: I couldn't figure out any other way to do this.::Gus: You make the decision without me, you don't even consult me, and this is what you want to do?::Harley: Well, you said you weren't going to be in court today. So...::Gus: Yeah, I'm not going to court. I'm not going to stand there and watch you throw your life away.::Harley: That's fine, but I'm still going through with this. Ten years. Ten. I mean, even with time off with good behavior, that's a really long time. So my life will be in the state pen and yours will be here. That's the reality.::Gus: I don't really have a reality without you in my life, okay? So if they send you to Vailsburg, I'll just buy the house next door to prison.::Harley: No.::Gus: If they send you out of state, I'll just... I'll hit the road. I'll be the first one in, the last one out every single visiting day. You can count on it.::Harley: That is not...::Gus: In fact, I'll get a job. I'll get a job...::Harley: ... a life for you. You deserve more than that, Gus.::Gus: I'm not walking out of your life.::Harley: Well, you have to! Okay? You have to. Because I can't live with anything else. None of this is the way it's supposed to be, okay? None of this is the way I wanted it. Starting with Phillip. But he's dead, okay? And now we are, too. And I've got to go.::Gus: Wait a second. Just wait a second.::Harley: You know what? I don't want to be late for court. And this is the part you said you couldn't watch. So don't.
