Baby Orcas come to check out small rowboat (It was really scary)
My buddies and I were crabbing off of the west coast of Anderson Island and even though we didn't really catch anything, we got to see the pod of orcas everyone has been talking about! We were in a little aluminum rowboat and we think that the sound of the rope being pulled along the side of the boat is what attracted the babies because right after we pulled up the pot the pod headed right for us.

Killer whales (orcas) chase our boat near San Diego Bay
5 miles out of San Diego Bay
September 10, 2015
"Todd Rice and I (both San Diego Lifeguards) left San Diego Bay at dawn on 9/10/15 to go offshore spearfishing/fishing on Todd's 20' panga. About 5 miles off Point Loma, we saw the animals but couldn't determine exactly what they were until they approached our boat. There was a pod of about 30 of them, young and old, small and large." -Ben Lewis

MUST SEE! Wild Pseudo Orcas Seek Interaction with Humans! Costa Rica
As you watch this fascinating video, keep in mind that this was filmed out in the open ocean, more than 20 miles off shore. These are TOTALLY WILD animals. And they like us!! They really, really like us!! This video clearly demonstrates the natural bond and curiosity that humans and cetaceans have with each other as these Pseudo Orcas obviously sought out this interaction of their own free will.

A POD of killer whales have been filmed for the first time hunting and killing a TIGER SHARK. The footage, which is believed to be a world-first, was captured off the coast of Costa Rica by underwater photographer Caroline Power and British marine biologist Nicholas Bach. It shows three killer whales working as a team to force the panicked shark to the surface, wearing it down and taking opportunistic bites at its fins. Eventually, a large bull moves in to deliver the death blow while flipping the shark onto its back in the process - which induces a state of paralysis known as tonic immobility. The pod then takes turns at eating and stripping the seven-foot shark down to its bare bones before disappearing back into the ocean. The attack took place at Chatham Bay on Cocos Island, Costa Rica, on September 8.
Videographer / Director: Caroline Power
Producer: Nick Johnson
Editor: Sonia Estal, Ian Phillips

My buddies and I were crabbing off of the west coast of Anderson Island and even though we didn't really catch anything, we got to see the pod of orcas everyone has been talking about! We were in a little aluminum rowboat and we think that the sound of the rope being pulled along the side of the boat is what attracted the babies because right after we pulled up the pot the pod headed right for us.
Most of the fun from this video comes from how scared we (really just me) were so some profanity is used. WARNING: inappropriate words are used (the s-word) we are sorry but we were scared. However feel free to laugh at how I respond to a scary situation like this (I yell run even though we are in a rowboat) and enjoy the beautiful orcas at the beautiful Anderson Island! Others in the boat are Michael Niccum and Eugene Dight.

The documentary "Moscow Orcas" tells the story of Narnia, Nord and Malyshka. These killer whales had been captured by Sochinsky Delfinary LLC in the Sea of Okhotsk of the Russian Far East and then have been kept in the small sea pens in the Pacific Research Fisheries Centre near the city of Nakhodka. From there Narnia and Nord have been taken for a year to the temporary tank at the All-Russian Exhibition Centre (VDNKh) in Moscow. Then, together with a newcomer Malyshka, these acoustically sensitive animals have been moved to the new Oceanarium at VDNKh, which is still under construction, and have survived there for 6 months. Opening of the Mosaquarium (new name of Oceanarium) was delayed several times. These poor animals are forced through the circles of hell like the other approximately 50 orcas in captivity around the world. Please sign and share the petition Defend dolphins, orcas and beluga whales in Russia https://www.causes.com/campaigns/92695-defend-dolphins-orcas-and-beluga-whales-in-russia Thank you! The previous documentary "Would Putin Save Orcas" from series The Dark Secrets Surrounding Dolphins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUg9FFp7GaA has uncovered the shocking situation with cetaceans, especially killer whales, in Russia: the lack of animal protection laws, forgery of documents, corruption, and the lack of statistics. Cetaceans have larger and possibly more complex brains than humans, they are self-aware and they deserve a better life. They have the right to be free and it is our responsibility as humans to make it happen!

We have had many interactions with the Pseudo Orcas of Costa Rica and they routinely demonstrate their playfulness, intelligence and desire to hang out with the humans.
On this day, we were with a pod of 60 or so Pseudo Orcas for over an hour and we had slowed down to take a break. Most of the pod kept going, but this mom and baby turned around so we put on our gear and got in. You will see how the mom swam up to each and every one of us.
Please note, and this is very important, we do not condone getting into the water with dolphins or whales unless there is a very obvious invitation. It is not okay to disrupt feeding and resting behaviors. If you think that dolphins and whales want to swim with you, wait until they have passed by, THEN get into the water. If they turn around to interact with you, you've got a mutual party! Never chase, harass, or otherwise molest dolphins and whales, or any wildlife for that matter. Be sure you know what you are doing and are respecting their natural behaviors. Yes, they want to interact with us, but let's do it on THEIR terms since we are entering THEIR home.
This video was filmed with a GoPro by the lovely Nori Neumann of Women for Whales and Be As One Foundation (http://www.beasonefoundation.org/) on our Divine Dolphin tour in Drake Bay, Costa Rica of the Osa Peninsula..
