Classic Movie Bloopers and Mistakes: Film Stars Uncensored - 1930s and 1940s Outtakes

Classical Hollywood cinema or the classical Hollywood narrative, are terms used in film history which designate both a visual and sound style for making motion pictures and a mode of production used in the American film industry between 1917 and 1960. This period is often referred to as the "Golden Age of Hollywood." An identifiable cinematic form emerged during this period called classical Hollywood style.
Classical style is fundamentally built on the principle of continuity editing or "invisible" style. That is, the camera and the sound recording should never call attention to themselves (as they might in films from earlier periods, other countries or in a modernist or postmodernist work).
Throughout the early 1930s, risque films and salacious advertising, became widespread in the short period known as Pre-Code Hollywood. MGM dominated the industry and had the top stars in Hollywood, and was also credited for creating the Hollywood star system altogether. MGM stars included at various times "King of Hollywood" Clark Gable, Norma Shearer, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Jean Harlow, Gary Cooper, Mary Pickford, Henry Fonda, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Judy Garland, Ava Gardner, James Stewart, Katharine Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Grace Kelly, Gene Kelly, Gloria Stuart, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, John Wayne, Barbara Stanwyck, John Barrymore, Audrey Hepburn and Buster Keaton. Another great achievement of American cinema during this era came through Walt Disney's animation. In 1937, Disney created the most successful film of its time, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Many film historians have remarked upon the many great works of cinema that emerged from this period of highly regimented film-making. One reason this was possible is that, with so many movies being made, not every one had to be a big hit. A studio could gamble on a medium-budget feature with a good script and relatively unknown actors: Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles and often regarded as the greatest film of all time, fits that description. In other cases, strong-willed directors like Howard Hawks, Alfred Hitchcock and Frank Capra battled the studios in order to achieve their artistic visions. The apogee of the studio system may have been the year 1939, which saw the release of such classics as The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Stagecoach, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Destry Rides Again,Young Mr. Lincoln, Wuthering Heights, Only Angels Have Wings, Ninotchka, Babes in Arms, Gunga Din, and The Roaring Twenties. Among the other films from the Golden Age period that are now considered to be classics: Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood, It's a Wonderful Life, It Happened One Night, King Kong, Citizen Kane, Swing Time, Some Like It Hot, A Night at the Opera, All About Eve, The Searchers, Breakfast At Tiffany's, North by Northwest, Dinner at Eight, Rebel Without a Cause, Rear Window, Double Indemnity, Mutiny on the Bounty, City Lights, Red River, The Manchurian Candidate, Bringing Up Baby, Singin' in the Rain, To Have and Have Not, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Roman Holiday, Giant and Jezebel.
The style of Classical Hollywood cinema, as elaborated by David Bordwell, has been heavily influenced by the ideas of the Renaissance and its resurgence of mankind as the focal point.
Thus, classical narration progresses always through psychological motivation, i.e. by the will of a human character and its struggle with obstacles towards a defined goal. The aspects of space and time are subordinated to the narrative element which is usually composed of two lines of action: A romance intertwined with a more generic one such as business or, in the case of Alfred Hitchcock films, solving a crime.
Time in classical Hollywood is continuous, since non-linearity calls attention to the illusory workings of the medium. The only permissible manipulation of time in this format is the flashback. It is mostly used to introduce a memory sequence of a character, e.g. Casablanca.
Likewise, the treatment of space in classic Hollywood strives to overcome or conceal the two-dimensionality of film ("invisible style") and is strongly centered upon the human body. The majority of shots in a classical film focus on gestures or facial expressions (medium-long and medium shots). André Bazin once compared classical film to a photographed play in that the events seem to exist objectively and that cameras only give us the best view of the whole play.

Carolyn Ekins, 48, from Nottingham lost a staggering 5st 10lbs by following a wartime ration diet from WW2. The mum-of-three had tried Weight Watchers, Slimming World and Slimfast before adopting the frugal diet consisting of 'apricot' tart made with carrots and Lord Woolton's rolled oats pie. Carolyn, a social media administrator, weighed 25st at her heaviest and ate on average 5000 calories a day. Her new forties inspired diet - which Carolyn cooks from scratch - totals a healthier 2,000 calories.

This great shaving Gillette razor sports aluminum made handle and baseplate. This is a very lightweight razor which gets the job done as quickly and easily as every other Gillette razor. The weight of the razor is 53 g and takes every day double edge blades, plating on top blade plate is partially missing but this in no way affects the shave. Also included is a new Astra blade just to get you started. Please make sure to see the pictures as they are the best description of all also be sure to see the pictures that I posted on YouTube.
The Tech is one of those rare Gillette razors that actually got better for
a while instead of worse. The razor in the photographs dates from 1946, in my
opinion Tech variants are probably the nicest. Quality of the handle
construction varied over the years, but it is best to look out for a thin
handle like the one above. The Tech is a light razor, the weight of this
razor is 53g and generally well balanced.

This classic brass, gold plated with nickel under plating, ball end handle Gillette Tech Razor you are viewing was thoroughly cleaned, plus sanitized. It is in excellent working condition. All of the pieces assemble together tightly and evenly. As to the cosmetics, I rate this one good. There`s a small amount of wear to the gold plating on the head which can be seen in the pictures. See photos. This razor is a sturdy, nice looking early Tech with a long career of great shaves left ahead.
The Gillette Tech Razor was a popular standard from the late 1930s, through the 50s, and into the 60s. They were issued to the armed forces during WWII, and were often distributed by the Red Cross. It is generally considered a milder razor, yet it is extremely popular among all sorts of present day wet shavers. This particular razor is dated between 1946 and 1950. Techs made before 1946 have triangular slots in the base plates. This razor does not have these type slots. Date codes for Techs began in 1951. There is no code engraved on this razor. Also included is a collectible Toledo double edge razor blade still in the original envelope. Please be sure to look closely at all pictures also see the pictures that I have posted on YouTube.

Hello Friends, I've uploaded this film for you to enjoy! It is definitely family-friendly!
This is a well-written and acted story, with real people, real problems, as relevant today as it was 70+ years ago.
The story concerns a loving Father who is desperately trying to give his son a better life than he would have (lovingly and morally) with his Mother. You'll understand why after watching. The acting is true-to-life. Of course, children weren't as bombarded by media "values" as they are today, so you may find yourself wishing to live with your children in the past when it was, lets be honest, easier to parent children. You may shed a tear or two, but it's okay :) We all need a good escape from this hard life we daily live, don't we? So make some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy good acting, a heart-wrenching, then warming family story.
Great to watch with your kids! Thanks again for watching my channel. And thanks so much for being one of my dear SUBSCRIBERs!

From 3rd September 1939 radio (or "the wireless") became a vital source of news and entertainment for the British public and armed forces. Dance bands continued to broadcast boosting morale and adapting to wartime conditions despite occasional shortages of available musicians. Here is a handful of recordings that illustrate just how good and varied these bands could be and how they retained an individual sound and didn't simply adopt a "Glenn Miller style" overnight. Put Your Arms... also proves that Van Phillips really could swing! Please note that I'm always looking for Van Phillips material so if you have anything - please do get in touch.
Most of these recordings come from ENSA / ORBS discs or BBC transcriptions. I've done the best I can with sound quality which varies from "rough" to pretty good. The Van Phillips is fairly distorted and My Heart Stood Still has a bad swish, is cracked and even has a piece missing out of the edge of the record so I had to rebuild the opening notes - quite a challenge! It was far too nice to miss out however. I hope you enjoy them.
Geraldo and his Concert Orchestra play:
• Alexander's Ragtime Band
• My Heart Stood Still (vocal Sally Douglas)
• Holiday for Strings
Eric Winstone and his Stringtette play:
• Mexico
• In the Still of the Night
• A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening (vocal Alan Kane)
• Bottle Party
Harry Gold and his Pieces of Eight play:
• I'm Confessin' (amateur sax players - listen and learn!)
Van Phillips and his Big Band play:
• Put Your Arms Around Me Honey (vocal Leslie Douglas)

This is a fantastic old steam era safety film concerning working around railroad yards and tracks -- heavy on switching operations. Produced by the Great Northern Railway in the 1940s and probably filmed at St. Paul using actual employees.
Watch them getting on and off moving equipment, making drops, pulling pins, aligning couplers, lining switches, coupling air hoses and similar switching activities. See what was considered unsafe THEN and what was CONSIDERED SAFE back then that is now considered UNSAFE. Modern day railroad safety officers and trainmasters should probably NOT watch this video, lest they pass out or have a heart attack. It's not for the faint of heart or those who never worked under the old rules and safety instructions. LOL.
Beyond the safety aspect, the film is a wonderful insight to old railroad operations, clothing, steam locomotives, and railroad cars and equipment from log ago fallen flag railroads.

Part seven of a 15-part series of documentaries produced by the American Broadcasting Company on the 20th century and the rise of the United States as a superpower.
When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, America was a country steeped in isolationist policies and ill prepared for war. Within a matter of weeks, the country made an amazing turnover from a peacetime nation suffering the final throes of a depression to the most efficient and productive "arsenal for democracy" that the world
had ever seen. This was accomplished by the unity and sheer willpower of the American people, who backed the war effort almost unanimously. This episode examines the American homefront during World War II, how it came together in a unified effort, and the ways in which the war changed the lives of those left behind, especially the women whose contributions to the war effort helped to win the war.
